  • This research evaluates the accessibility of the mobile applications for the South Korean libraries based on the accessibility guideline from the Ministry of Security and Public Administration. In order to enhance the credibility of the evaluation, this current research covers both the accessibility for the visually impaired and the accessibility for the people without disabilities. The research found four main results. First, we found that only 21 libraries (31%) provide alternative texts. Out of the 21 libraries, only one provide alternative texts across all sections of the mobile applications, including the main page, data search, information assistance, etc. Second, most of the mobile applications provide contents in texts, and the subtitles, sign language, blinking and background music provided as required or recommended standard by the guideline lack correlation. Third, alternative texts, focus movement, accessibility of operating system, button motion control, spacing between control and alarm functions must follow the standard guideline for the people with disabilities to use the mobile applications. Fourth, follow-up research on the development of accessibility standard for library mobile application is necessary in order to enable people with disabilities to freely use the library mobile applications.

  • The school library provides a mobile web service that allows access to the library catalog system, and provides services that reflect the needs of search and consider the characteristics of mobile devices. Therefore, this study conducted a literature review, an analysis of the current status of school library mobile web services, and a survey of the mobile service user experience of students and teachers to find the contents and service plans for school library mobile app services that meet the school library mobile needs. Based on the survey, the contents and design plan of the school library DLS mobile service was prepared. First, the steps were reduced from step 4 to step 3. In the first step, solution of screen clipping errors in registering as a member and various login platforms for accessibility are needed. In the second step, integrated search and detailed search, provision of materials for use and reading education, post-booking activities, guides and announcements on the use of the affiliated school library, inter-loan, and e-books are provided as main menu. In the third step, it was proposed to provide related functions such as reservations as well as the display of the detailed screen of the search results of the collection. This study can be used not only to develop dedicated mobile app services, but also to change current web-based mobile services.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the factors that influence users' intention to use mobile services in academic libraries, based on the Davis' Technology Acceptance Model. This study employed both perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use, which were core variables in TAM, and added perceived playfulness that was recently applied to many researches on mobile system acceptance intention. As external variables, ubiquitous ability, context awareness, and mobile internet self-efficacy were employed. The data was collected from 325 surveys from two academic libraries and was analyzed with SPSS 18.0 and AMOS 21.0. As a result, perceived usefulness was the most significant factor in predicting users' acceptance intention and perceived ease of use was an indirect determinant of service usage. But perceived playfulness was not significantly correlated. Ubiquitous ability among external variables had a significant effect on perceived usefulness, context awareness did on both perceived playfulness and ease of use, and mobile internet self-efficacy did on perceived ease of use. Based on the findings, this study discussed theoretical and practical implications in academic library mobile service area.

  • This study aims to investigate the influence of undergraduate students' personal characteristics on the use behaviors of library mobiles and its contents. We used gender, major, grade, university, perceived usefulness, personal innovativeness, and smartphone dependency variables to measure their personal characteristics. We conducted a survey with 309 undergraduate students who belong to two universities. The results showed that the major, grade, perceived usefulness, and innovativeness variables significantly influenced the use frequency of library mobiles, while the gender, major, university, and smartphone dependency ones did the use pattern of library mobile contents. Based on the results, we proposed three methods for constructing an efficient university library mobile.

  • Convergence is an important concept for driving our society to be ubiquitous. The objectives of this paper are to conceptualize information convergence, and to analyze its mechanisms from the view of ubiquitous library circumstances. Further, this paper suggests mobile Web 2.0 as a library supporting technology for information convergence and some kinds of mobile based library user services using mobile Web 2.0 applications.
