Development of a Vehicle Operating Speed Model and its Application for Designing Consistent Horizontal Alignment (차량 주행속도를 반영한 도로 평면선형설계 기법 연구)

  • At present engineers use the highway design speed concept to develop the horizontal alignment. This concept has a strength of attaining consistent horizontal alignments because of its use of a single speed value. Yet it shows a critical weakness that when opened the operating speed for the vehicles on the road can be a lot different than the design speed. To resolve this, many countries already develop the horizontal alignment by adopting procedures that weigh vehicle operating speeds, and this research joins them by developing an operating speed based horizontal alignment design. We have collected vehicle speed samples over the nation, selected some speed influential design elements by doing a statistical analysis, provided a set of models for two-lane roads and four lane roads, and showed a stepwise feedback procedure by doing a case study. It is underscored that in the case study the proposed procedure has scaled down the speed inconsistency problem, and we are of opinion that our procedure would coin both investment efficiency and speed consistency in future highway projects.

  • Five bases for of highways are sight distance, vehicle stability, driver comfort, drainage and aesthetics. Among these bases, the sight distance is the most critical one in the highway alignment design. It is certain that highways and drivers' observation actions are 3-dimensional in nature. But, the highway alignment design and the sight distance analysis have been performed on 2-dimensional planes because of various constraints and complexity of calculating 3-dimensional sight distance. The purpose of this study is to derive a model for determining exact available sight distance in 3-D combined horizontal and vertical alignments. Application of the model is illustrated using numerical examples. The proposed model should be useful in quantifying the criteria for 3-D highway alignments.

  • 본 고는 도로선형 설계에 확율 및 경제요소를 반영시키는 방법과 그에 따른 효과를 파악하는데 목적을 두고 있다. 접근방법은 도로사용자 비용과 도로시공 및 유지관리 비용 등을 포함하는 총비용을 예상비용함수로 나타내어 이 비용함수를 최소화함으로써 최적 도로선형 설계방법을 찾는 것이다. 이와 더불어 본 고는 이 개념에 의한 최적 설계방법을 등반차선(Climbing lane)의 설계에 적용하였다. 즉, 오르막길의 경사 및 거리에 따른 등반차선의 최적 위치를 찾기 위해 우선 오르막길에서의 승용차와 트럭의 속도분포를 찾아내고 예상예비함수를 등식화하여 그 최적해를 구함으로써 등반차선의 최적 위치를 구하였다. 현재 등반차선의 설계과정(AASHTO, 1984)은 트럭 주행능력에 따른 가정과 트럭과 승용차의 최대 속도 차이를 임의로 선택하여 등반차선의 최적 위치를 찾고 있다. 따라서 본 고에서는 기존 등반차선 설계방법과 새로운 설계방법을 상호 비교하면서 새로운 방법의 타당성과 그에 따른 설계이점들을 증명하였다.

  • This paper is to develop a model for evaluation of highway alignment design considering the driver's behavior in order to enhance the highway safety. Under the conditions, this research included a new evaluation criteria development and an analysis on how to change evaluation criteria according to roadway alignments, to evaluate safety. The vehicle spacing and speed deviation are suggested as new evaluation index The evaluation criteria model can be used to compare the anticipated safety performance of two or more geometric alternatives for a proposed highway improvement.

  • The most important factor in highway design is to match highway alignment with topography so that the driver can drive the vehicle safely and comfortably. Highway alignment design is completed with combination of horizontal alignment and vertical alignment that is harmony with topography at the last step. In highway alignment design, the use of continuous perspective can meet vehicle's physical requirements, which is useful to keep driver's psychological and physiological balance. The main purpose of this study is to develop a computer pro-gram which is applicable to highway alignment design through study of how to make and analyze perspective by means of computer.

  • 미래의 텔레매틱스(telematics)환경에서 차량항법과 관련된 주요 핵심 기술은 동적 경로 안내 이외에 차량 자체의 지능화를 통해 운전자에게 주행 중인 도로에서 급경사, 급커브 구간에 대한 정보를 사전에 경고함으로써 사고를 방지하는 운전자 보조 및 경고 시스템(driver assistance and warning system) 구현으로 전망되고 있다. 이와 같은 기술이 구현되기 위해서는 현재 차량항법용 수치도로지도에서 도로의 단순 위치정보만으로는 불가능하며 도로의 곡선구간에서 평면 곡선반경과 같은 도로의 선형설계요소에 대한 정보가 필수적이다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 현재 전국적으로 구축되어있는 1/1000 수치지도의 도로중심선을 이용하여 실제 도로의 평면 선형설계요소를 자동으로 추출하기 위한 알고리즘을 개발하였고 이를 GUI 환경의 프로그램으로 구현함으로써 기존 도로의 정확한 평면 선형정보를 경제적이면서 효율적으로 획득할 수 있게 되었다.

  • 도로상에서 발생되는 교통사고의 많은 부분이 도로의 선형불량에 기인된다. 이러한 도로의 개량설계를 위하여서는 도로의 선형을 정확히 분석할 필요가 있으며, 도로의 설계도와 주요점의 좌표가 필요하게 된다. 따라서, 본 연구에서는 현재 많이 연구되고 있는 인공위성중 RTK GPS/GLONASS의 조합에 의하여 획득된 3차원 자료를 기존 설계도의 제원을 근거로 하여 위치정밀도를 비교하며, 이렇게 재현된 도로의 선형을 평가함으로써 인공위성을 이용한 도로의 선형정보체계를 보다 효율적이고 실용적으로 사용하기 위한 한 접근방법을 제시하고자 한다.

  • The design of highway in the future should be convenient using of a high-technology information, and it needs the design of alignment that is able to find the maximum vehicles inducement function fitting into Car Navigation System. Well then, the alignment of the existent highway needs to be analyzed with accuracy for improving design of existent highway, and it needs the design drawing of existent highway, and coordinates of the main point. This study gets data of the alignment of highway economically by Kinematic GPS surveying to analyze the alignment of existent highway, and horizontal alignment of highway is analyzed by this data. The result of study is included within range practical error, and alignment analysis can be known that there is practical.

  • Highway geometric design aims to provide drivers with safe and efficient road conditions. Highway design method of Korea doesn't consider demand characteristics of drivers, vehicles etc. Therefore there is a gap between designer's expectation and user's behavior and it hinders to make safer roads. It is required to develop the geometric design criteria and design method based on driving characteristics to provide safe and flexible design. This study suggested a geometric design method of horizontal curves on rural 4-lane highways based on speed distribution.

Traffic Accident Prediction Model by Freeway Geometric Types (고속도로 선형조건별 교통사고 위험도 평가모형 개발 (호남고속도로를 중심으로))

  • Fatalities from traffic accidents constitute one of the major health issues as well as safety ones in Korea. It has been reported that traffic accident is affected by the combined effects of road. vehicle. and human factors. Over the past few decades, a number of studies have been conducted to find the impact of road geometric factors on traffic safety. The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of road geometric factors on traffic safety on Korean expressways. Detailed geometric design data were available from Korea Highway Corporation. Five-year traffic accident data on Honam expressway were collected and analyzed. It was found that following geometric factors influence traffic safety on expressways : radius of curve, curve length, and length of straight section. Furthermore, the existence of I.C. turned out to have a significant impact on traffic safety level. Based on the data analysis several multiple regression forms that relate traffic accident frequencies and geometric factors on expressways are developed.
