  • As the field of robots is evolving to intelligent robots that can replace even humans' mental or emotional labor, 'robot ethics' needed in relationship between humans and robots is becoming a crucial issue these days. The purpose of this study is to consider the ethics of robots and humans that is essential in this post-human age. It will deal with the followings as the main contents. First, with the cases of developing ethics software intended to make robots practice ethics, the authors begin this research being conscious about the matter of whether robots can really judge what is right or wrong only with the ethics codes entered forcibly. Second, regarding robot ethics, we should consider unethicality that might arise from learning data internalizing human biasness and also reflect ethical differences between countries or between cultures, that is, ethical relativism. Third, robot ethics should not be just about ethics codes intended for robots but reflect the new concept of 'human ethics' that allows humans and robots to coevolve.

  • In order to apply Kriging methods for geostatistics of spatial data, an estimation of spatial coherency functions is required priorly based on the spatial distance between measurement points. In the study, the typical coherency functions, such as semi-variogram, homeogram, and covariance function, were estimated using the national geoid model. The test area consisting of 2°×2° and the Unified Control Points (UCPs) within the area were chosen as sampling measurements of the geoid. Based on the distance between the control points, a total of 100 sampling points were grouped into distinct pairs and assigned into a bin. Empirical values, which were calculated with each of the spatial coherency functions, resulted out as a wave model of a semi-variogram for the best quality of fit. Both of homeogram and covariance functions were better fitted into the exponential model. In the future, the methods of various Kriging and the functions of estimated spatial coherency need to be studied to verify the prediction accuracy and to calculate the Mean Squared Prediction Error (MSPE).

  • With the diversification of payment methods and games, related financial accidents are causing serious problems for users and game companies. Recently, game companies have introduced an Fraud Detection System (FDS) for game payment systems to prevent financial incident. However, FDS is ineffective and cannot provide major evidence based on judgment results, as it requires constant change of detection patterns. In this paper, we analyze abnormal transactions among payment log data of real game companies to generate related features. One of the unsupervised learning models, Autoencoder, was used to build a model to detect abnormal transactions, which resulted in over 85% accuracy. Using X-FDS (Explainable FDS) with XAI-SHAP, we could understand that the variables with the highest explanation for anomaly detection were the amount of transaction, transaction medium, and the age of users. Based on X-FDS, we derive an improved detection model with an accuracy of 94% was finally derived by fine-tuning the importance of features that adversely affect the proposed model.

  • In the 2020s, the K-Pop market has been dominated by girl groups over boy groups and the fourth generation over the third generation. This paper presents methods and results on lyric clustering to investigate whether the generation of girl groups has started to change. We collected meta-information data for 1469 songs of 47 groups released from 2013 to 2022 and classified them into lyric information and non-lyric meta-information and quantified them respectively. The lyrics information was preprocessed by applying word-translation frequency vectorization based on previous studies and then selecting only the top vector values. Non-lyric meta-information was preprocessed and applied with One-Hot Encoding to reduce the bias of using only lyric information and show better clustering results. The clustering performance on the preprocessed data is 129%, 45% higher for Spherical K-Means' Silhouette Score and Calinski-Harabasz Score, respectively, compared to Hierarchical Clustering. This paper is expected to contribute to the study of Korean popular song development and girl group lyrics analysis and clustering.

  • Recently, mobile apps that utilize AI technologies are increasing. In the personal mobile environment, performance degradation may occur during the training phase of large AI workload due to limitations in memory capacity. In this paper, we extract memory reference traces of AI workloads and analyze their characteristics. From this analysis, we observe that AI workloads can cause frequent storage access due to weak temporal locality and irregular popularity bias during memory write operations, which can degrade the performance of mobile devices. Based on this observation, we discuss ways to efficiently manage memory write operations of AI workloads using persistent memory-based swap devices. Through simulation experiments, we show that the system architecture proposed in this paper can improve the I/O time of mobile systems by more than 80%.

  • At a time when interest in the educational use of ChatGPT is increasing, it is necessary to investigate the perception of ChatGPT among college students. A survey was conducted to compare the current status of internet and interactive artificial intelligence use and perceptions of ChatGPT after using it in the following courses in Spring 2023; 'Family Life and Culture', 'Fashion and Museums', and 'Fashion in Movies' in the first semester of 2023. We also looked at comparative analysis reports and reflection diaries. Information for coursework was mainly obtained through internet searches and articles, but only 9.84% used interactive AI, showing that its application to learning is still insufficient. ChatGPT was first used in the Spring semester of 2023, and ChatGPT was mainly used among conversational AI. ChatGPT is a bit lacking in terms of information accuracy and reliability, but it is convenient because it allows students to find information while interacting easily and quickly, and the satisfaction level was high, so there was a willingness to use ChatGPT more actively in the future. Regarding the impact of ChatGPT on education, students said that it was positive that they were self-directed and that they set up a cooperative class process to verify information through group discussions and problem-solving attitudes through questions. However, problems were recognized that lowered trust, such as plagiarism, copyright, data bias, lack of up-to-date data learning, and generation of inaccurate or incorrect information, which need to be improved.

  • With the spread of Artificial Intelligence (AI), various AI-based services are expanding in the financial sector such as service recommendation, automated customer response, fraud detection system(FDS), credit scoring services, etc. At the same time, problems related to reliability and unexpected social controversy are also occurring due to the nature of data-based machine learning. The need Based on this background, this study aimed to contribute to improving trust in AI-based financial services by proposing a checklist to secure fairness in AI-based credit scoring services which directly affects consumers' financial life. Among the key elements of trustworthy AI like transparency, safety, accountability, and fairness, fairness was selected as the subject of the study so that everyone could enjoy the benefits of automated algorithms from the perspective of inclusive finance without social discrimination. We divided the entire fairness related operation process into three areas like data, algorithms, and user areas through literature research. For each area, we constructed four detailed considerations for evaluation resulting in 12 checklists. The relative importance and priority of the categories were evaluated through the analytic hierarchy process (AHP). We use three different groups: financial field workers, artificial intelligence field workers, and general users which represent entire financial stakeholders. According to the importance of each stakeholder, three groups were classified and analyzed, and from a practical perspective, specific checks such as feasibility verification for using learning data and non-financial information and monitoring new inflow data were identified. Moreover, financial consumers in general were found to be highly considerate of the accuracy of result analysis and bias checks. We expect this result could contribute to the design and operation of fair AI-based financial services.

  • Climate change is the issue that attracts the most attention in the field of environment, as well as the most challenging task faced by the human race. There are various ways to resolve this issue. South Korea has established the primary and secondary national climate change adaptation plans at the national level, and is making it compulsory for each local government (lower and municipal-level) to establish climate change adaptation plans. Climate change vulnerability assessment plays an essential role in establishing climate change adaptation action plans. However, vulnerability assessment has a difficulty performing individual assessments since the results are produced through complex calculations of multiple impact factors. Accordingly, this study developed a web-based supporting tool(VESTAP) for climate change vulnerability assesment that can be used by lower and municipal-level local governments. The VESTAP consists of impact DB and vulnerability assessment and display tool. The index DB includes total 455 impacts of future climate data simulated with RCP (Representative Concentration Pathways) 4.5 and 8.5, atmospheric environment data, other humanities and social statistics, and metadata. The display tool has maximized convenience by providing various analytical functions such as spatial distribution, bias and schematization of each vulnerability assessment result. A pilot test of health vulnerability assessment by particulate matters in Sejong Metropolitan Autonomous City was performed using the VESTAP, and Bukang-myeon showed the highest vulnerability. By using the developed tool, each local government is expected to be able to establish climate change adaptation action plans more easily and conveniently based on scientific evidence.

  • Gendered innovations is a term used by policy makers and academics to refer the process of creating better research and development (R&D) for both men and women. In this paper, we analyze the literatures in image and speech signal processing that can be used in ICT, examine the importance of gendered innovations through case study. Therefore the latest domestic and foreign literature related to image and speech signal processing based on gender research is searched and a total of 9 papers are selected. In terms of gender analysis, research subjects, research environment, and research design are examined separately. Especially, through the case analysis of algorithms of the elderly voice signal processing, machine learning, machine translation technology, and facial gender recognition technology, we found that there is gender bias in existing algorithms, and which leads to gender analysis is required. We also propose a gendered innovations method integrating sex and gender analysis in algorithm development. Gendered innovations in ICT can contribute to the creation of new markets by developing products and services that reflect the needs of both men and women.

  • The recent launch of the GOCI-II enables South Korea to have the world's first capability in deriving the ocean color data at geostationary satellite orbit for about 20 years. It is necessary to develop a consistent long-term ocean color time-series spanning GOCI to GOCI-II mission and improve the accuracy through validation using in situ data. To assess the GOCI-II's early mission performance, the objective of this study is to compare the GOCI-II Chlorophyll-a concentration (Chl-a), Colored Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM), and remote sensing reflectances (Rrs) through comparison with the GOCI data. Overall, the distribution of GOCI-II Chl-a corresponds with that of the GOCI over the Yellow Sea, Korea Strait, and the Ulleung Basin. In particular, a smaller RMSE value (0.07) between GOCI and GOCI-II over the summer Ulleung Basin confirms the GOCI-II data's reliability. However, despite the excellent correlation, the GOCI-II tends to overestimate Chl-a than the GOCI over the Yellow Sea and Korea Strait. The similar over-estimation bias of the GOCI-II is also notable in CDOM. Whereas no significant bias or error is found for Rrs at 490 nm and 550 nm (RMSE~0), the underestimation of Rrs at 443 nm contributes to the overestimation of GOCI-II Chl-a and CDOM over the Yellow Sea and the Korea Strait. Also, we show over-estimation of GOCI-II Rrs at 660 nm relative to GOCI to cause a possible bias in Total suspended sediment. In conclusion, this study confirms the initial reliability of the GOCI-II ocean color products, and upcoming update of GOCI-II radiometric calibration will lessen the inconsistency between GOCI and GOCI-II ocean color products.
