Quality elements and evaluation methods should be considered according to the characteristics of spatial database. The purpose of this study is to propose specific methods for quality evaluation focusing on land database which are an important parts of spatial database. Through the study, of quality evaluation for selected quality elements are specified, which are based on the construction processes of the topogaphical database, cadastral database, and zoning database. Position accuracy, attribute accuracy, consistency, completeness, temporal accuracy, believability, and lineage are selected as the quality elements of land database. A various statistical and mathematical skills are proposed for measurement and assesment methods of quality elements.

한국데이터베이스진흥센터는 지난해부터 정보통신부의 지원을 받아 데이터베이스 품질평가 사업을 추진하고 있다. 정부나 기업에서는 데이터베이스 구축을 위해 매년 1,000억원 이상을 투입하는데 반해, 지속적인 사후 품질관리가 제대로 이루어지지 못해 이용자들의 불만을 사왔다. 이에 한국데이터베이스진흥센터에서는 우수한 데이터베이스의 제작. 유통 기반을 조성하고 체계적인 데이터베이스 품질관리를 유도하기 위해 데이터베이스 품질평가 모델을 개발, 보급하고 있다.

(재)한국데이터베이스진흥센터에서는 1995년도 데이터베이스 표준화 사업으로 데이터베이스 제작,구축,유통,이용 등에 관련된 5개의 과제를 연구 수행하였으며, 동 결과물에 대하여 데이터베이스 분야의 각계 전문가 자문 및 간담회 등을 통해 의견을 수렴한 "데이터베이스 표준화 연구보고서"를 발간하였다. 이 연구보고서는 연구 과제별로 5개로 구성되어 있으며 그중 하나인 "데이터베이스 품질 평가에 관한 연구"를 발췌하여 2회에 걸쳐 게재하고자 한다.

The purpose of this study was to design an extensive evaluation model for the quality of web-based database and to make a comparative analysis of People's awareness of the importance of assessment indices. The evaluation standard developed in this study was constituted by 19 indices and 45 elements in three different areas, including data, service and effectiveness. And a survey was conducted on database experts and nonprofessional users to find out their awareness of the importance of web-based database evaluation elements, and the findings of the study might contribute to laying the foundation for expediting more in-depth research efforts in the future.

This study is to develop quality assessment module to apply database system quality assessment thus, recognizing necessity of database system quality improvement maturity model. To manage and improve of database system quality, assessment module is needed to assess database system quality systematically. This study is to perform for the purpose of follows. First, this study is to select quality characteristics and sub characteristics on based on ISO/IEC 9126 series and to develop assessment module for database system quality assessment. Second, this study is to compare and to analysis about quality assessment characteristics of two groups. This study is to have significance to apply quantitative assessment in theoretical and practical basis and is to applicate basic materials of study in database system quality assessment. Also, in succeeding study, it will be to develop of database system quality improvement maturity model.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the current state of foreign online databases in the field of Science and Technology. Evaluation of databases is becoming increasingly important for information users and for information providers as well. Previous research studies on evaluation of Science & Technology databases were summarized. This paper examined major online databases of Science & Technology with a short annotation. This study aims to evaluate the quality of databases in scientific and technical fields. The maul discussion is about the quality issues of KORDIC's seven database the most typical web database of scientific and technical fields in Korea. Eighteen evaluation criteria, considered two aspects of data itself and service of database, are used to measure their quality. The purpose of this study Is to diagnose the qualify of databases mentioned above and to analyses the measured result of quality objectively and to find out the problems of them and also to provide possible suggestions for their improvements.
