The most effective library services on the website was a book search with success rate of 100%. However the least effective service was journal article search with success rate of 23.1% . The most efficient library service on the web was a book search. 100% of subjects found the answer in 42.2 seconds, while the least efficient library service was journal article search in which 23.1% of subjects found the answer in 271.7 seconds. • The university library's service strategy needs to be established based on users, who are actual service consumers, including an outlook on changes in the social environment. Accordingly, in this study, college and graduate students, instructors, and researchers who are university library users were identified to understand users' perceptions of the university library functions and services currently provided, and the demand for services that need to be improved or developed. Data was collected through an online survey, with 1,216 responses from the student group and 433 responses from the researcher group. The survey results were organized by each group, and implications were drawn from common results. First, it was found that both groups had a continuous demand for strengthening the collection and access to information resources. Second, there was a need to expand information provision services, such as strengthening the sharing of information resources through cooperation with other organizations and wishing to use overseas academic materials in various ways. Third, although the library was recognized as an important institution, it was found that satisfactory use was not achieved due to lack of publicity. Fourth, it was found that university libraries recognize that they must provide open services to everyone without discrimination. The results of this study can be used as basic data when establishing strategies to develop and improve university library services optimized for users.

  • Users tend to perceive differently the service quality of library depending on the advance of digital information technologies. It is necessary to analyze the cumulative results of LibQUAL+ in order to identify the suggestions for improvement of library services. This study aims to comparatively analyze the results of LibQUAL+ and demonstrate the trends and changes for the services of university library. To achieve the purpose of this study, two university libraries were selected for analysis. The library of McGill University in Canada was selected with the six years' results of LibQUAL+. Another library located in Seoul was selected with the 2012 result of LibQUAL+ and a new LibQUAL+ in 20015 was conducted for this study. The results were analyzed with three dimensions and 22 items in terms of circular chart, bar chart, and graph. Findings of this study indicated that there were substantial differences in terms of years of LibQUAL+ survey and user groups with undergraduate/graduate students in three dimensions. In particular, the results of A library showed that users were likely to expect more from the university library, but they perceived low service quality. In addition, there was found considerable differences among users groups in terms of undergraduate and graduate students. The improvements for library services need to focus on three dimensions such as staff, resources, and facilities as well as customized services for individual user groups.

  • This study suggests a scheme to activate an e-book service through the analysis on the cause of low usage of the services in academic libraries. The data analysis of e-book circulation records was performed for the purpose of preparing the scheme. Frequency analysis and descriptive statistics were used for basic data analysis. Also, t-test, ANOVA, non-parametric chi-square, and correlation analysis were used to examine whether there are any significant differences between treatment groups divided by gender and major.

  • Many university libraries, facing financial difficulties, have been forced to operate on a tighter budget. Such trend has created the need for an objective standard that will prioritize current library services. This study derives service quality factor via open coding from internet postings posted in the last five years on the Korean National Open University's library website, and also calculates the customer satisfaction quotient and dissatisfaction quotient using the Kano Model and Timko's Customer Satisfaction Coefficient. The result draws 25 service quality factors across 3 categories consisting of: (i) 8 attractive qualities, (ii) 15 one-dimensional qualities and (iii) 2 reverse qualities. The study, through the calculation of Timko's Customer Satisfaction Coefficient per service quality, proposes an intensive service that can prioritize the efficient use of library budget.
