Open calcaneal fracture with more than lateral half of bone loss and soft tissue defect occurred in 17 year-old male patient due to motor vehicle accident. Soft tissue defect included heel pad, peroneal tendon. Bone loss involved mainly most part of inferior tuberosity but not subtalar joint. Open dressing and debridement were done daily in operating room and antibiotics administration was started. After granulation tissue formed, femoral head allograft was performed and fixed with 6.0 mm screws to replace bone defect. Soft tissue defect was covered with latissimus dorsi musculocutaneous free flap. No sign of infection nor major osteolysis was observed in 15 months follow up period. Soft tissue defect was covered with latissimus dorsi musculocutaneous free flap.

Objectives : The purpose of this study is to report the effect of acupotomy for patient with avascular necrosis(AVN) of femur head. Methods : Three patient who had been diagnosed as AVN participated in this study. The patient treated by acupotomy therapy. After the treatment, the patient was measured by visual analogue scale(VAS), Harris hip score and five likert scale Results : The patient informed the researcher of reduced pain and improved range of movement after the conduct of acupotomy therapy. The efficacy of acupotomy treatment was reaffirmed by the results of the VAS, physical examination (ROM, Patrcik sign), Harris hip score. Conclusions : Acupotomy therapy on AVN of femur head shows the efficacy in reducing pain and improving movement.

Objectives : The aim of this study was to report the improvements in pain that a woman experienced after receiving Korean medicine treatments for the pain associated with core decompression surgery due to avascular necrosis (AVN) of both femur heads. Methods : The patient was diagnosed as having AVN in both femur heads and underwent core decompression surgery. After operation, she had pain on her right inguinal region and her range of motion (ROM) was restricted. She was treated with Korean medicine including, herbal medicine, acupuncture, Chuna Manual Therapy and bee venom acupuncture (BV). This study was measured by using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) and the ROM scale. Results : After conservative treatment, the patient's pain was reduced and ROM was increased. Daily living quality had improved. Conclusions : In this case, Korean conservative medicine therapy with Chuna Manual Therapy had a positive effect on the symptoms after core decompression surgery due to avascular necrosis of the femur head.

Geometries, boundary renditions, loading renditions and mechanical properties are essential for finite element analysis. However it is a very difficult task to obtain In-vivo geometry and mechanical properties of human body. In this study totally 38 kinds of inner organs are segmented using MRI of young male with Korean standard body shape to make a finite element model. And RUS has been used to acquire anisotropic elasticity matrix of the femoral head.

This experiment was designed to investigate the analgesic effect of non-invasive electroacupuncture treatment on femoral head osteotomy in dogs. Twelve dogs were divided into 3 groups in this experiment. Electroacupuncture group was non-invasively electrostimulated in Huan Tiao (GB-30) acupoint for 10 minutes by 4.5V, 5Hz for 10 days. Medication group was treated with carprofen (4mg/kg, P.O.) for 10 days. Control group was not treated. Each group was pre-operatively and post-operatively scored by using VAS (Visual Analogue Scale), SDS (Simple Descriptive Scale), NRS (Numerical Rating Scale), and measured serum cortisol levels. The results of VAS, SDS and NRS in electroacupuncture and medication groups were better than those of control group. And, the results of electroacupuncture group were better than those of medication group since 6th day after osteotomy in pain management(p<0.05). But, there were no significances in serum cortisol level among 3 groups. In conclusion, non-invasive electroacupuncture treatment showed sufficient analgesic effect on postoperative pain management after femoral head osteotomy, and VAS, SDS, and NRS scoring system would be adapted in evaluation of pain management.

This study was performed to evaluate the postoperative heating process according to lameness degree, swelling, and muscle atrophy after femoral head and neck ostectomy on Retriever dogs with hip dysplasia and hindleg lameness. Femoral head and neck ostectomy (FHO) was performed for the repair of hip dysplasia in 4 Retriever dogs (5 hips) referred in veterinary medical teaching hospital of college of veterinary medicine, Konkuk University. Age (Mean $\pm$ SD) of patients was 10.3 $\pm$ 3.0 months (range,7 to 16 months) and body weight (Mean $\pm$ SD) was 28.2 $\pm$ 3.4 kg (range, 25 to 34 kg). After FHO, all cases are treated with carprofen (2.2 mg/kg, PO bid, tapering at interval 1-2 weeks) and physical therapy including passive range-of-motion exercises. In all cases, lameness degree was showed V at the next day after surgery, IV at 5 to 7 days, II-III at 30 to 35 days, II at 60 days, and I at 105 to 114 days. These results suggested that femoral head and neck ostectomy was able to be performed on large breed dogs with hip dysplasia and hindleg lameness.

Objective : The etiology and treatment of the avascular necrosis of the femoral head continiue to be controversial and the pathogenesis remains obscure. And its clinical study and report about oriental treatment are absolutely insufficient. Therefore, we report a case of avascular necrosis of the femoral head. Methods : The patient was treated with Bee-Venom therapy, Electro Acupuncture and Sopungwhalhyul-tang(疎風活血湯). Results : After 26days of Oriental treatments, there was remarkable improvement in condition of the patient. Conclusions : In this case, oriental treatments for avascular necrosis of the femoral head was effective. Futher studies are required to prove effectiveness of oriental treatments for treating avascular necrosis of the femoral head.

Objectives : The aim of this study is to report the improved case of bilateral avascular necrosis(AVN) of femur head treated with Korean medicine and Fascia Chuna Therapy Methods : The patient diagnosed with bilateral AVN is hospitalized at department of korean rehabilitation medicine, Samse hospital of korean medicine. The subject is treated by herbal medicine, acupuncture, SBV and hip joint gyoung-geon chuna. This study was measured by visual analogue scale(VAS) score, walking time without pain per 6 minutes and harris hip score(HHS). Results : The patient showed decreased VAS score, HHS and improved walking time without pain per 6 minutes after treated with korean medicine and hip joint Fascia Chuna Therapy. Conclusions : The patient showed reduced pain and positive effect on activities of daily living.

Advancement of imaging and surgical technique makes the internal hemipelvectomy one of the routine procedures of pelvis sarcoma. However, optimal reconstructive option for skeletal defect is still controversial. Pasteurized autogenous bone-total hip composite is a biologic method and its anatomical appropriateness gives good indication for selected cases. Nevertheless, in case of complication such as infection or mechanical breakage, removal of hardware including graft is inevitable. In those cases, marked limb length discrepancy induce marked functional deficit. To overcome this problem, the authors report 1 case, refining previous technique, saving the femoral head and reinsertion of osteoarticularly pasteurized host bone.

Developmental dysplasia of the hip broadly includes inadequate development of the hip joint involving the acetabulum or proximal femur, or both. Although ultrasonographic studies in neonates have greatly lowered the frequency of neglected or operatively treated cases, its sensitivity is less than desired. Hip dysplasia without subluxation is commonly diagnosed incidentally and strongly related to degenerative arthritis in females after the 4th decade. Hip dysplasia with subluxation shows symptoms through various periods, depending on its severity, especially for women with onset during pregnancy. A complete physical examination and early treatment for neonates are extremely important for obtaining satisfactory outcomes. To avoid underdiagnosis and to serve appropriate treatment on time, the authors recommend examining any suspicious hips in infants under two years of age. The study will discuss the diagnosis and primary treatment of developmental dysplasia of the hip.
