This study analyzed the quality of a commuter rail service of Incheon line 1 with respect to two service measures such as occupancy (crowdedness) and punctuality based on transit smart card data collected in 2009. In order to analyze the metro services by individual fleet, we aggregated the personal level card data into the fleet operated in each planned schedule. The results show a low level of service for both crowdedness and punctuality during peak hours at the line segment from 'Gyeyang' to 'International business district'. Further, a close relationship between vehicle occupancy and punctuality is found, which illustrates high passenger demand causes successive metro delay.

The Seoul metropolitan transportation card's high value lies in its recording of total population movements of the public transit system. In case of recorded information on transit by bus, even though route information utilized by each passenger is accurate, the lack of passenger transfer information of the urban railway makes it difficult to estimate correct routes taken by each passenger. Therefore, pinpointing passenger path selection patterns arising in the metropolitan railway network and using this as part of a path movement estimation model is essential. This research seeks to determine that features of passenger movement routes in the urban railway system is comprised of M-similar routes with increasing number of transfer reflected as additional costs. In order to construct the path finding conditions, an M-similar route searching method is proposed, embedded with non additive path cost which appears through inclusion of the stepwise transportation parameter. As well, sensitivity of the M-similar route method based on transportation card records is evaluated and a stochastic trip assignment model using M-similar path finding is constructed. From these, link trip and transfer trip results between lines of the Seoul metropolitan railway are presented.

This Study estimates the actual night traffic using the smart card data used by most of the public transportation users, and compares it with the current night bus routes by KT Telecom based on the night time call volume. In order to compare the current night bus and night trips evaluated by smart card data, we presented indicators related to the degree of matching, and estimated the volume of service currently provided. The unique approach of the study is that we chose subway station instead of bus stop for the unit of the study. Bus stops has their complexity in a way that stops with same name could belong to different administrative area depending on its direction. For this reason, we decided to use subway station and defined its adjacent administrative district as the scope of influence. Since night bus is the primary means of transportation during the late night, it is anticipated that they will be able to provide better service by calculating the actual traffic and selecting the routes.

This study analyzed passenger travel patterns especially for the transfer from metro to bus by using transit smart card data. We classified three types of land use such as residential, business, and shopping area where metro stations are located. The results show that more number of transfers was observed at residential area compared to that of shopping and business area. Also, more number of transfers from metro to arterial bus was observed than that of transfers to local bus. Further, the high number of transfers to arterial bus was observed at business and shopping area. This means that the transfer to bus at metro stations varies by land use. The egress walk distance from metro station was found to be approximately 400 meters and the average walk distance of young people was found to be shorter than that of the old.

Boundary Station is an evaluation index that was not reflected in the Seoul Metropolitan Urban Railroad Connected Eare Allocation. Boundary station is a station located at the boundary point of two transportation agencies sharing the same route, and track operation methods are divided into business management and maintenance management. Until now, the Connected Fare Allocation has evaluated the boundary stations from the perspective of business management. Meanwhile, the integrated public transportation fee system requires the need to interpret the boundary stations from the point of view of maintenance management at the developmental level. This study was prepared a measure to quantitatively analyze changes in income with the introduction of maintenance methods in mind. The Change in the income of operation agency evaluated based on the daily transportation card data for the boundary stations of the four Seoul Transportation Corporation and KORAIL sections. This study is meaningful as a basic research for an analytical judgment that evaluates and allocates changes in transportation income of Seoul Metropolitan Urban Railroad in the future.
As the local bus service diagram after the bus route reform is studied by variable analysis based on traffic card data and income adjustment data, the characteristic of the local bus system is revealed in Busan Metropolitan city. The relationship between traveling length and traveling time is influenced by traveling velocity. In order to keep a headway within 10 minutes, bus service number per minute should be over 0.1013 vehicles. The traveling time of afternoon is generally longer than that of forenoon. Compared with the bus used by a lot people, the deviation of that used by a few people is larger in the all cases of length, headway, time and velocity. According to the analysis of the relationship among card trip number, average income and transfer rate, the relationship between card trip number and average income is expressed as linear function in the general bus and as exponential function in the high-grade & rapid bus. The 1% increase of transfer rate is equal to 6.3 trip/vehicle/day decrease and 4.9 trip/vehicle/day decrease in two bus types respectively. The four effective variables are defined by the discriminant analysis between the profitable routes and the unprofitable; According to discriminant size, bus service number per km, bus via suburb, subway meeting number, bus via university. In order to increase the income when the minibus will be included among public transit transfer system in 2008, it should be necessary to settle the bus network and revitalize the public transit better. In order to decrease the cost, it should be necessary to reorganize the hierarchy between the local bus and the minibus better.

This study investigates the time-space characteristics of intra-urban passenger flows in the Metropolitan Seoul area. In particular, we analyze the relationships between transit ridership and land use through the use of the subway passenger flow data obtained from the transit transaction databases. For this purpose, the strength of each subway station, i.e., the number of total in-coming and out-going passengers at each station, in the morning, afternoon, and evening, is calculated and visualized, which reflects urban land use patterns. Then the subway stations are classified into four groups via a hierarchical analysis of the in-coming and out-going passenger flows at 353 stations. Each group appears to have characteristic properties according to the region, e.g., residential areas and central business districts. This has been confirmed by the analysis which probes explicitly the relationship between the local socio-economic variables and station groups. This analysis, disclosing the inter-relationship between the subway network and urban land use, may be useful at various stages in urban as well as transportation planning, and provides analytical tools for a wide spectrum of applications ranging from impact evaluation to decision-making and planning support.

The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted societies, particularly the elderly with higher susceptibility and mobility constraints. This study investigates COVID-19's influence on elderly travel at subway stations using card data. Analyzing pre/post-COVID-19 data via multilinear regression, we found factors like subway transfer lines, presence of rivers, the area of traditional markets, number of traditional Korean medicine clinics, number of cultural facilities, and number of large commercial facilities correlated positively with elderly travel. Post-COVID-19, effects of variables related to public transportation and employment, and indoor leisure facilities decreased, while the effects of outdoor and traditional culture-related facilities increased. These findings indicate significant pandemic-induced alterations in the mobility patterns of senior citizens in Seoul, highlighting shifts towards safer, more accessible environments.
This research aims to analyze the importance-performance among multiplex cinema selection attributes. Therefore, we collected data for visitors who visited the multiplex cinema and want to watch movies. Of the various multiplex cinema selection attributes, four factors were deduced that includes: major services, human services, physical environment, auxiliary services using exploratory factor analysis. In the quadrant I, the area of 'Concentrate Here' was 'diversity of screening time', 'diversity of movie genre', 'convenience of mobile app use', 'size and convenience of parking facility'. In the quadrant II, 'Keep up the Good Work' area was 'convenience of website booking', 'discounts through card partnerships', 'employee friendliness', 'accurate employee information delivery', 'comfortable seating', 'screen size', 'cinematic sound quality', and 'convenience of traffic' etc. The quadrant III, 'Low Priority' appeared to be 'membership system', 'tidiness of staff attire', 'resting space for waiting time', 'accessibility to the neighboring area', 'diversity of the snack corner', and 'overall cleanliness' etc. The quadrant IV, 'Possible Overkill' was 'appropriateness of the auditorium temperature' and 'service proficiency'.

The core of the transportation service, so-called Mobility 4.0 is the flexibility of the entire mobility and its implementation. By doing so, the most essential element is to build a platform to link a supply and a demand simultaneously. In other word, a comprehensive analytical framework is to be set with a data repository which can be periodically updated. With such circumstances, the entire trip chain including pedestrian movements is required to be thoroughly investigated and constructed at the viewpoint of the intermodal transit station. A few studies, however, have been attempted. In this study, the comprehensive analytical framework with the integrated mobility at intermodal transit station was proposed, which consisted of the three modules; 1) Data Repository Extracting from Smart Card DB, 2) Framework of Analyzing Integrated Mobility, and 3) Interpretation of the Integrated Mobility with GIS information and the other factors. A case study with the seven railway stations (Sadang, Sindorom, Samseong, Gwanghwanoon, Gangnam, Jamsil, Seoul Nat'l Univ. of Education) was conducted. The stations of the case study were clustered by the three groups with the statistical ground, and it is most likely to understand the effect of a variety of factors and a comprehensive data-driven analyses with the entire trip stages.
