VHF Relay Network for Long Air-to-Ground Communication in Oceanic Flight Routes (대양항로에서 장거리 공대지통신을 위한 VHF Relay Network)

  • In oceanic flight routes, HF radio and satellite data links have been used for air-to-ground communication, but these systems have long propagation delay and low data throughput. In this paper, we propose a reliable system to overcome the weakness of current HF radio and satellite communication systems for oceanic aeronautical flight routes. The proposed scheme uses only one aeronautical VHF channel in multi-hop oceanic communication environments and supports a hybrid type of multiple access, which consists of random access and TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) scheme. The proposed system improves performance on delay and throughput as an effective solution to communicate end-to-end on the oceanic flight routes and strengthens the reliability of oceanic aeronautical communication.

  • In oceanic flight routes, HF radio and satellite data links have weather restrictions, long propagation delay and low data throughput. In this paper, we propose oceanic aeronautical communications scheme in the VHF band based on ad-hoc communication. The proposed scheme organizes autonomously a multi-hop network that is divided into multiple local network using aircraft to fly long-distance communication and supports a hybrid type of multiple access, which consists of random access and TDMA (Time Division Multiple Access) scheme. In addition, several algorithms to apply spatial reuse of transmission to multi-hop long range communication environments have been proposed. The proposed system proves performance improvement on delay time as an effective solution to communicate end-to-end on the oceanic flight routes and strengthens the reliability of oceanic aeronautical communication.

  • 자율운항선박 도입에 관한 논의가 국제해사기구에서 본격적으로 시작됨에 따라 자율운항선박 관련 기술개발이 세계적으로 활발하게 진행되고 있다. 그러나, 통신, 보안, 고장진단, 유지보수 등의 기술개발이 아직 미흡하여, 자율운항선박의 상용화까지는 많은 시간이 소요될 것으로 예상된다. 이러한 기술들은 문제가 발생할 경우 선박에 막대한 피해를 발생시킬 수 있으며, 특히, 연안을 항해하는 선박보다는 대양을 항해하는 선박에 더 치명적이기 때문이다. 본 연구에서는 대양항해 시 자율운항선박에 발생할 수 있는 문제들을 극복하기 위한 방안으로 여러 척의 선박을 하나의 그룹으로 묶어 항해하는 그룹항법시스템을 제안한다. 하나의 그룹은 한 척의 유인선박인 리더선박과 여러 척의 무인선박인 추종선박으로 구성되어 있으며, 항해하는 동안 일직선 형태를 유지한다. 리더선박은 출발지에서 목적지까지 미리 설정된 변침점을 따라 항해하며, 추종선박은 리더선박의 경로를 추종하여 항해한다. 선박의 침로를 제어하기 위한 타각 제어기는 선박에서 주로 사용되는 PD 제어기를 구현하여 사용하였다. 그룹항법시스템을 검증하기 위해 선박해양플랜트연구소에서 공개한 KVLCC2의 축소 모형인 L-7 모델을 사용하여 시뮬레이션을 진행하였다.

정보사회를 짊어질 통신위성

  • 비행기 속, 열차의 속 어디에서나 사무실이나 가정과 연락을 취할 수 있는 다중체통신, 위성통신은 현재, 전화, TV의 전송, 전용선 등에 폭넓게 이용되고 있다. 최근까지 정지위성 궤도상에 떠있는 트란스폰도(transponder=transmitter+responder<송신기+응답기>) 즉, 위성 탑재 중단기의 수는 INTELSAT를 포함해서 합계 약 4,100으로 되어 있다(과거의 공산권을 포함해서). 발사로켓의 대형화, 통신위성의 대형화에 의해 위성회선의 비용은 현저히 저하되어 있으며, 위성통신의 이용은 확대일로에 있다. 위성통신은 광화이버통신, 지상마이크로파통신과 나란하는 통신네트워크의 주요한 구성요소이다. 대양횡단의 통신은 위성통신이 그 특징을 충분히 발휘하여 왔고, 해저광케이블과의 사이에서 부설자끼리 장단점을 놓고 비교를 하고 있으나, 위성통신은 넓은 지역으로부터의 통신을 수 하는 기능 또는 동일한 신호를 넓은 지역에 탑재하는 지구국에서 동시에 수신할 수 있는 기능을 갖고 있는 이외에도, 원양어선에로의 통신같이, 지상의 통신방식으로는 제공이 곤란한 서비스가 가능하다는 등의 특징이 있으며, 금후의 통신 네트워크의 구성요소로서 더 한층 그 필요성이 증가해 갈 것이라 본다.

  • Submarine cable is the leading means of international communication across oceans. However, when such important submarine cable is damaged, that causes not only huge amount for the repair but also losing the nation's reliability internationally, and has brought about much difficulty and loss due to the interruption of communication. So, in order to deduce methods for the stability of submarine cables, this paper is studying the present status of submarine cables and the causes of cable faults, and suggesting techniques and regulations to protect from the trouble of submarine cables.

  • A conceptual design of marine environmental information system(MEIS) for vessels running in the ocean was carried out. MEIS consists of a remote acquisition system of raw environmental data, a physical and numerical processing system of acquired raw data, and a supporting satellite communication system for data transfer. The efficiency of a remote acquisition system depends on the amount of acquired data and its real-time accessibility, while the efficiency of a data processing system is governed by the flexibility and accuracy of data analysis tools.

  • When a Ship sails in the ocean, it is significant to find one's position for safe navigation. Most of ships have been using GPS navigation since its development after 1990's. The celestial navigation was used as the navigation method when sailing in the ocean, but time-consuming process such as complicated calculation and plotting the result on chart diminished its utilization. The thesis explains convenience and utilization of existing celestial navigation by resolving challenges it has. As a way of enhancing the celestial navigation, the author developed a software which incudes a numerical formula based on the previous calculation process. When a navigator inputs the altitude of sun, GHA and dec into computer while sailing, the position of the ship will be displayed as the coordinates. The improved method thus reaffirmed the usefulness of the celestial navigation and will greatly serve as means of navigation in the occurrence of distress. Abstract should be placed here.

  • Korean shipbuilding industry increased a considerable amount of orders recently. It is time to build up the concept of Digital-Ship, and develop the fundamental technology to operate or manage an oceanic vessel safety and also economically for the world shipping industry, now. In this paper, all sorts of low-ranked devices, system components, integrated protocol, and ship-shore supporting system, which shares information between ship and shore by utilizing a low-orbit satellite communication will be described.
