Effects of Formic Acid on the Quality of Rye Silage at Different Dry Matter Levels (개미산의 첨가가 건물함량이 다른 호밀 사일리지의 품질에 미치는 영향)

  • Experiments were conducted to study the effects of formic acid on the quality of the rye silages at the different dry matter content (19.2, 28.6 and 32.2%) and different formic acid addition levels (0.00, 0.24, 0.48 and 0.71%). Rye were taken at vegetative stage (plant height 40cm) on November 29, 1984. Herbage were adjusted dry matter contents by wilting. Materials were ensiled in small polyethelene film bag after addition planned formic acid, and stored under room temperature. The results obtained are as follows: 1. In the visual observation of silage quality by addition of formic acid in unwilted silage show more clear brownish-yellow color and sweet flavor and less acidity compared with untreated formic acid. 2. The pH values of the silage increased by increasing DM content. At lower dry matter contents in materials the pH values decreased with increased formic acid levels. At higher dry matter content silage, however, non significant difference were observed. 3. The formation of total organic acid decreased by increasing DM content in the materials, and there appeared a significant difference (P<01) among formic acid levels. The organic acid contents in silage decreased with higher formic acid levels. 4. The water soluble carbohydrate in silage increased by increasing DM content. And it was also increased (P<01) with increased formic acid addition level. 5. The production of NH_3 - N decreased (P<01) with increasing the addition of formic acid, and decreased by increasing DM content in materials. 6. The in vitro dry matter digestibility of silages showed not difference among dry matter contents of the materials but at 0.71% addition of formic acid in unwilted silages appeared higher (P<05) digestibility compared the others (0.00% and 0.24%).

Changes in Contents of Chlorophyll and Free Proline as Affected by NaCl in Rice Seedling (NaCl처리에 따른 벼 유묘기의 엽록소 및 유리 Proline의 함량 변화)

  • The changes in contents of chlorophyll and free proline in the seedling leaves of ten rice cultivars as affected by salt stress were checked in order to obtain the basic information on the judgement of the degrees of salt injury. The difference in salt injury among the cultivars was clearly observed about 25 days after 6% salt treatment. Chlorophyll content was decreased in both Gayabyeo and Taebaegbyeo for 14 days after different salt treatment as salt concentration was increased and the decreased tendency was much higher in Taebaegbyeo than in Gayabyeo over 0.4% salt concentration. Chlorophyll content in Gayabyeo after 0.6% salt treatment was decreased slowly, while in Taebaegbyeo, deminished very rapidly as time progressed, therefore it decreased by about 16% in Gayabyeo and 67% in Taebaebyeo compared to the control at 20 days, respectively. The relationship between chlorophyll content and the degrees of salt injury in ten rice cultivars showed significant negative correlation at 10 day after 0.6% salt treatment. Free proline content in Gayabyeo was increased gradually for 14 days after different salt treatment as salt became higher, while in Taebaebyeo, it was increased rapidly under 0.6% but rather decreased under 0.8% salt concentration. Particularly, it was much higher Taebaegbyeo than in Gayabyeo under salt concentration from 0.4 to 0.6%. Free proline content in Gayabyeo after 0.6% salt treatment was increased from 15 days, on the other hand in Taebaegbyeo, it was increased from 5 days, but rather decreased from 20 days, and it was 6 times higher in Taebaegbyeo than in Gayabyeo at 10 days. There was significant positive correlation between free proline content and the degrees of salt injury in ten rice cultivars at 10 days after 0.6% salt treatment. From the above results, chlorophyll and free proline content may be used as an indicative character of intensity of salt stress as well as varietal difference in resistance to salt stress in the seedling stage.

Monitoring Reports about Nine High Risk Insect Pests in 2018 (2018년 고위험해충 9종에 대한 예찰조사 보고)

  • To establish the cooperative monitoring network which can investigate introductions or outbreaks of high risk insect pests into Korea, seven universities, Gyeongsang National University, Kunsan National University, Seoul National University, Sunchon National University, Andong National University, Jeju National University, and Chungbuk National University, carried out seven regions' monitoring about nine high risk insect pests, Aceria diospyri, Bactrocera dorsalis, Bactrocera minax, Bactrocera tsuneonis, Cydia pomonella, Lobesia botrana, Proeulia sp., Solenopsis invicta, Stephanitis takeyai, from June to October in 2018. A total of 7,560 traps/visual scouting were investigated in 315 points of 105 local sites of seven regions, resulting the nine species, A. diospyri, B. dorsalis, B. minax, B. tsuneonis, C. pomonella, L. botrana, Proeulia sp., S. invicta, and S. takeyai, were not detected. From this study, we established the nationwide monitoring system which can early detect high risk insect pests and secured a bridgehead for monitoring invasive insect pests passing the border.
