  • The deterioration of the flexural capacity by progressive crack and over deflection in R/C bridges is developed actually from the dynamic repeated loading due to vehicle traffics. Such a fact suggest a necessities of confirmation and estimation of the data acquired from monotonic incremental loading test. Therefore, this study carry out the monotonic incremental loading test and dynamic repeated loading test in R/C beams strengthened with CFS. By dynamic repeated loading test, the experiments confirmed the validities and fittness of the results acquired from monotonic incremental loading test and estimated the characteristics of the moment-curvature, degradation of the flexural rigidity, crack and failure.

  • Cyclic loading due to traffic, excavation and blasting causes microcrack growth in rocks over long period of time, and this type of loading often causes rock to fail at a lower stress than its monotonically determined strength. Thus, the crack growth and coalescence under cyclic loading are important for the long-term stability problems. In this research, experiments using gypsum as a model material for rock are carried out to investigate crack propagation and coalescence under monotonic and cyclic loading. Both monotonic and cyclic tests have a similar wing crack initiation position, wing crack initiation angle, cracking sequence and coalescence type. Three types of crack coalescence were observed; Type I, II and III. Type I coalescence occurs due to a shear crack and Type II coalescence occurs through one wing or tension crack. For Type III, coalescence occurs through two wing or tension cracks. Fatigue cracks appear in cyclic tests. Two types of fatigue crack initiation directions, coplanar and horizontal directions, are observed.

  • This study deals with the response of reinforced concrete beams strengthened with carbon fiber sheets. Test beams are subjected to static loading and repeated loading. Based on the static test results of the RC beams strengthened with carbon fiber sheets, repeated loading tests are performed. The variables of repeated loading test are composed of the number of carbon fiber sheets, the existence of U-shaped band at the end for anchoring, and loading rate of repeated loading, etc. Test results show the flexural behavior, the characteristics of strength, the characteristics of ductility, the change of flexural rigidity, and the amount of energy loss of RC beams under monotonic incremental loading and repeated loading. The failure strain of carbon fiber sheets is also estimated under repeated loading. From the experimental results, this work presents a basis of the data needed to analyze and design the static and dynamic flexural response of RC beams strengthened with carbon fiber sheets.

  • In this paper, the comparative performance of repaired RC columns using steel and CFRP is presented. Also, the effect of transverse reinforcement ratio on the behavior of the steel and the CFRP repairing is investigated. Monotonic and cyclic load tests are conducted on nine RC column specimens with different repairing strategies and transverse reinforcement ratios to compare the load-displacement curves and the hysteretic behaviors. From the tests, it is observed that both steel and CFRP jacket repairings can significantly increase the displacement ductility and the ultimate load capacity of damaged columns.

  • This paper presents a hypoplastic model for three-dimensional analysis of concrete structures under monotonic, cyclic, proportional and non-proportional loading. The constitutive model is based on the concept of equivalent uniaxial strains that allows the assumed orthotropic model to be described via three equivalent uniaxial stress-strain curves. The characteristics of these curves are obtained from the ultimate strength surface in the principal stress space based on the Willam-Warnke curve. A cap model is added to consider loading along or near the hydrostatic axis. The equivalent uniaxial curve is based on the Popovics and Saenz models. The post-peak behavior is adjusted to account for the effects of confinement and to describe the change in response from brittle to ductile as the lateral confinement increases. Correlation studies with available experimental tests are presented to demonstrate the model performance. Tests with monotonic loading on specimens under constant lateral confinement are considered first, followed by biaxial and triaxial tests with cyclic loads. The triaxial test example considers non-proportional loading.

  • The applicability of headed bars in exterior beam-column joints under reversed cyclic loading was investigated. A total of ten pullout tests were first performed to examine pullout behavior of headed bars subjected to monotonic and cyclic loading with test variables such as connection type between head and bar stem (weld or no weld), loading methods (monotonic or cyclic loading), and head shape (small or large circular head and square head). Two full-scale beam-column joint tests were then performed to compare the structural behavior of exterior beam-column joints constructed using two different reinforcement details: i.e. $90^{\circ}$ standard hooks and headed bars. Both joints were designed following the recommendations of ACI-ASCE Committee 352 for Type 2 performance: i.e. the connection is required to dissipate energy through reversals of deformation into inelastic range. The pullout test results revealed that welded head to the stem did not necessarily result in increased pullout strength when compared to non-welded head. Relatively large circular head resulted in higher peak load than smaller circular and square head. Both beam-column joints with conventional $90^{\circ}$ hooks and headed bars behaved similarly in terms of crack development, hysteresis curves, and peak strengths. The joint using the headed bars showed better overall structural performance in terms of ductility, deformation capacity, and energy dissipation. These experimental results demonstrate that the headed bars using relatively small head can be properly designed far use in external beam-column joint.

  • With the increasing use of Fiber Reinforced Concrete as a structural material. More information on its mechanical properties is needed. This paper reports the results of experiments on the behavior of Carbon Fiber Reinforced Concrete under monotonic and cyclic compressive loading. The results are that (1) CFRC does improve its compressive strength by adding fibers to a concrete matrix. (2) Adding any fiber to a concrete matrix produced a substaintial change in its stress-strain response. This change is characterized by a significant increase in ductility as described by the descending portion of the stress-strain curve. (3) As compare with plain concrete, the normalized cyclic behavior of CFRC has a much stability. A higher fiber"" content produes a lesser steep descending portion, which results in a higher ductlity of the material.

  • The bond between steel and concrete in reinforced concrete members is essential to resist external load, but the bond mechanism in reinforced concrete beams deteriorated by steel corrosion has not been clearly known yet. Most existing researches have dealt with the bond behavior of corroded steel under monotonic loading, but scarce are researches dealing with bond behavior of corroded steel under repeated loading. This study includes the experimental investigation on the bond behavior with respect to the various degrees of steel corrosion under repeated loading. According to the test results, the bond strength of corroded steel under monotonic loading increases as the rate of steel corrosion increases unless the splitting crack occurs. The slip versus number of load cycles relation was found to be approximately linear in double logarithmic scale, not only in specimens without steel corrosion but also in specimens with steel corrosion. The test results also show that the steel corrosion does not negatively affect the bond strength of corroded steel after repeated loading unless the splitting crack occurs. But the fatigue life decreases sharply after splitting crack occurs. This research will be helpful for the realistic durability design and condition assessment of reinforced concrete structures.
