A Facile Pretreatment Method for Rice Straw using Electron Beam Irradiation and 4-methylmorpholine-N-oxide Solution (전자선 조사와 4-메틸모포린-N-옥사이드 용액을 이용한 볏짚의 전처리 방법)

  • In this study, a facile two-step pretreatment method was investigated for producing fermentable sugars. Rice straw was pretreated using electron beam irradiation (EBI) and 4-methylmorpholine-N-oxide (NMMO) prior to enzymatic hydrolysis. In the first stage, the EBI on the rice straw was carried out at various doses (100, 300, 500 kGy) and then, irradiated rice straw was stirred with NMMO solution at 120°C for 1 h for the second stage. The pretreated rice straw was hydrolyzed by cellulase 1.5 L (70 FPU/ml) and Novozyme-188 (40 CbU/ml) at 50°C for 24, 48, and 72 h. A sugar yield of 83.8% was obtained from the pretreated rice straw after 72 h of enzymatic hydrolysis. Also, FTIR and XRD results indicate that the pretreatment of the rice straw was effective due to the synergic effects of the two-step pretreatment. In conclusion, rice straw might be a potential substrate for bioethanol production by yeast fermentation.

  • The output of Korea's livestock industry represents about 40% of the total agricultural production, making it the most high value-added sector in the entire agricultural and forestry industry. However, the fatal epidemics such as foot-and-mouth disease and avian influenza spurs demands for the advanced management of livestock production with IT technologies. U-Livestock means the application of ubiquitous technologies to livestock production. In this study, U-Livestock service models are established on the basis of the life cycle of livestock by using local and overseas cases. The objectives, contents, and structures of service models are required to be designed in detail respectively. The integration of such service models is expected to he1p modernize the livestock industry and raise the productivity of sector.

경사 코팅법으로 제조된 Al 박막의 특성 평가

  • 경사 코팅법은 증발 물질이 기판에 수직으로 입사하는 기존 코팅방법과 다르게 증발물질이 기판과 $90^{\circ}$ 이하의 경사각으로 입사하도록 하여 코팅하는 방법이다. 이러한 경사 코팅법은 각도를 달리함으로 인해 비스듬한 기둥, 나선형, C-형, S-형, zigzag 구조 등의 정교하고 폭넓은 박막을 형성 할 수 있다. 이러한 경사 코팅법은 경사굴절 광학필터, 선형 편광 등의 광 산업계에서 널리 사용되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 경사 코팅법을 이용하여 마그네트론 스퍼터링법으로 Al 박막을 제조하였고 다양한 경사 각도에 따른 조직의 특성과 내식성 등을 평가하고 비교하였다. 기판을 $0^{\circ}$, $30^{\circ}$, $45^{\circ}$, $60^{\circ}$, $90^{\circ}$의 다양한 각도로 위치시켜 냉연강판 및 Si 웨이퍼에 단일층 또는 다층으로 Al 박막을 코팅하였다. 박막의 구조를 확인하기 위해 전자현미경(SEM)을 사용하였으며 기판의 위치에 따른 변화를 관찰하기 위해 시편을 좌, 우, 중간으로 구분하여 분석하였다. Al 박막이 단층일 경우 회전각도 $60^{\circ}$에서 치밀한 조직이 관찰되었으며 이것은 표면의 반사도와 표면조도 결과와도 유사하게 나타났다. 다층 박막에서는 회전각도 $45^{\circ}$에서 아주 치밀한 조직이 나타났으며, $3{\mu}m$ 두께로 코팅한 시편의 염수분무 시험 결과 120시간 경과 후에도 적청이 발생하지 않았다. 이것은 기존의 방법이 약 72시간에서 적청이 발생하는 것과 비교할 때 경사 코팅법으로 코팅된 시편의 내식성이 현저히 향상됨을 나타낸다. 따라서 반응성이 높고 쉽게 산화가 일어나는 철강제품의 부식 방지를 위해 경사 코팅법으로 Al 박막을 제조한다면 치밀한 조직으로 인해 얇은 두께에서도 부식이 발생하는 시간을 연장시켜 제품의 내구수명을 연장시킬 수 있을 것으로 기대된다.

  • As electric power systems have been moving from a vertically integrated structure to a deregulated environment, calculating reactive power service charges is a new challenging theme for market operators. This paper examines various methods for reactive power management adopted in some deregulated foreign and domestic markets and then proposes a new method to calculate reactive power service charges using a reactive power market. The reactive power market is operated based on bids from the generating sources and is settled on uniform prices by running reactive OPF programs after the day-ahead electricity market. The proposed method takes into account recovering not only the costs of installed capacity but also the lost opportunity costs incurred by reducing active power output to increase reactive power production. A numerical sample study is carried out to illustrate the processes and appropriateness of the proposed method.

  • Streptomyces platensis YK-2, newly isolated from forest soil, produces transglutaminase (TGase), which catalyses an acyl transfer reaction between the primary grade amine and protein or $\gamma$-carboxyamide group of peptide bound glutamine residues. For a molecular genetic study of S. platensis, an effective transformation method was established by using a conjugal transfer of DNA from Escherichia coli to spores of actinomycetes. The highest transconjugation frequency of S. platensis was obtained on an MS medium containing 50 mM $MgCl_2$, using $5{\times}10^7\;E$. coli as a DNA donor and $1{\times}10^8$ spores without heat treatment as a host. We also identified that S. platensis contains a single attB site within an ORF encoding a pirin-homolog, and that its attB site sequence shows high homology to that of S. logisporoflavus. In addition, it was confirmed by phenotypic analyses of exconjugants that the introduction of heterologous DNA into the attB site of the S. platensis chromosome does not affect its morphological differentiation and TGase production.

  • Incheon International Airport Construction Project the biggest national multi-complex construction project in a single area in Korea, the necessity for introducing the Program Management System has been brought up from the development stage due to its specific characteristics and environment and with the Project Management Services Contract in December 1994 the system has been established and operated. At the time of contracting, there were controversies over the expected effect of the system since there were no related laws and regulations in domestic construction codes. Furthermore the situation was very hard in which some practical problems have been found in the process of applying and operating the system due to the lack of recognition and infrastructure in Korea. Incheon. In spite of these difficulties, thanks to the devotion and efforts of the project participants along with thoughtful concerns from the industries and the academies, the project goal has been successfully accomplished. This paper will analyze the various problems arose in the process of applying the Project Management System to Incheon International Airport and present more practical and desirable ways so that it can help to make the environment for properly settling Construction Management at the earliest.

  • In recent, it is worldwide issued that nanoscale science and technology as a solution have supported to increase the sensing performance in carbon nanotube based biosensor system. Containing material chemistry in various nanostructures has formed their high potentials for stabilizing and activating biocatalyst as a bioreceptor for medical, food contaminants, and environmental detections using electrode modification technologies. Especially, the large surface area provides the attachment of biocatalysts increasing the biocatalyst loading. Therefore, nano-scale engineering of the biocatalysts have been suggested to be the next stage advancement of biosensors. Here, we would like to study the electrical mechanism depending on the exposure methods (soaking or dropping) to the sample solution to the assembled carbon nanotubes (CNTs) on the gold electrodes of biosensor for a simple and highly sensitive detection. We performed various experiments using polar and non-polar solutions as sampling tests and identified electrical response of assembled CNTs in those solutions.

  • Pattern classification extracts various types of pattern information expressing objects in the real world and decides their class. The top priority of pattern classification technologies is to improve the performance of classification and, for this, many researches have tried various approaches for the last 40 years. Classification methods used in pattern classification include base classifier based on the probabilistic inference of patterns, decision tree, method based on distance function, neural network and clustering but they are not efficient in analyzing a large amount of multi-dimensional data. Thus, there are active researches on multiple classifier systems, which improve the performance of classification by combining problems using a number of mutually compensatory classifiers. The present study identifies problems in previous researches on multiple SVM classifiers, and proposes BORSE, a model that, based on 1:M policy in order to expand SVM to a multiple class classifier, regards each SVM output as a signal with non-linear pattern, trains the neural network for the pattern and combine the final results of classification performance.

Rapid Thawing of Frozen Pork by 915 MHz Microwave (915 MHz Microwave를 이용한 동결 돈육의 급속 해동)

  • A study was conducted to find a rapid thawing method which prevents excessive drip loss and local overheating. Effects of thawing methods (conventional thawing vs. 2,450 and 915 MHz microwave thawing) on thawing time, temperature profile, drip loss, water holding capacity, total color difference and total aerobes were investigated. Samples were thawed at 4, 28 and $50^{\circ}C$ in a refrigerator or an oven for the conventional thawing methods the convertional thawing methods. Power levels of 5, 10 and 15 kW were used for 915MHz microwave thawing. Cotreatment of 915 MHz microwave and convectional heating $(120^{\circ}C)$ was tested. 915 MHz microwave accelerated the thawing rate, and showed significant effects on penetration depth, drip loss, water holding capacity and total aerobes. Cotreatment of 915 MHz microwave and convection heating was appeared to be a suitable thawing process for the food industry.

The historical data can be easily saved by advanced technologies of IT industries. Utilizing those make us to be able to manage construction project more effectively. These days, PMIS (Project Management Information System) has supplied widely at construction companies for integrating cooperation system of Web environment. and it is being used. However the most PMIS is limited at construction phase. Actually it isn't applied to a construction project Life-Cycle(planning, design, construction and maintenance). To control manage a construction project Life-Cycle effectively, BPMS (BIM-based PMIS Modeling) should be considered. This paper suggests the ways for applying BPMS.
