Packaging takes an extremely important element of optical module cost due primarily to the added complication of alignment between semiconductor devices and optical fiber, and many efforts have been devoted on reducing the cost by eliminating the complicated optical alignment procedures in passive manner. In this study, we fabricated silicon optical benches on which the optical alignments are accomplished passively. To improve the positioning accuracy of a flip-chip bonded LD, we adopted fiducial marks and solder dams which are self-aligned with V-groove etch patterns, and a stand-off to control the height and to improve the heat dissipation of LD. Optical sub-assemblies exhibited an average efficiency of -11.75$\pm$1.75 dB(1$\sigma$) from the LD-to-single mode fiber coupling and an average sensitivity of -35.0$\pm$1.5 dBm from the fiber and photodetector coupling.

Theoretical analyses have been tried to design high power and stable operating SLD at 1.55${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ wavelength range which is the lowest absorption wavelength in optical fiber. The materials of active layer and SCH layer were chosen as conventional In1-xGaxAsyPl-y quaternary composition systems. From the transverse mode and the lateral mode analyses of waveguide, the optical power distributions and the optical confinement factor have been studied for single-mode high power operation. According to these analyses, it was calculated the composition and the thickness of SCH layer to obtain the maximum optical confinement factor. In order to obtain low values of the reflectivity, we used the window region and the lateral tilted angle between tile active region and window region. And the reflectivity of SLD was calculated with the gaussian beam approximation and mode analysis. From these researches, it was confirmed for several results to fabricate the efficient and stable SLD. In case of using $1.3\mum$, InGaAsP SCH layer, the layer thickness was obtained $0.08\mum$, to get the maximum optical confinement factor. Using $0.2\mum$, active layer thickness and $0.08\mum$, SCH layer thickness, the window region length is about $100\mum$ without An coating, $10\mum$ in 1% AR coating to obtain about 10-4 reflectivity. When the tilted angle is about $10~15^{\circ}$, the reflectivity is about 10-3. From these results, if the window region length and tilted angle were controlled appropriately in given device structure, it was confirmed that it is possible to fabricate the stable SLD without AR coating analytically.
For transmitting the ultra-high speed optical signals with better performance, the techniques to suppress or mitigate the signal distortion due to group velocity dispersion and optical Kerr effects are required. Dispersion management (DM), optical phase conjugation, and the combination of these two are promising techniques to compensate for the signal distortion. However, the fixed length of single mode fiber (SMF) and the fixed residual dispersion per span (RDPS) usually used in these optical links restricts flexible link configuration. The goal of this paper is to investigate the possibility of the flexible configurations of the ultra-high and long-haul optical transmission systems by using the artificial and the random distribution of SMF length and RDPS of each fiber spans consisted of the optical link. It is confirmed that the proposed link configurations should be one of the methods suitable for implementing the flexible optical transmission systems, however which depend on other link parameters, such as the averaged RDPS, and the launch power.
Optimal net residual dispersion (NRD) and effective launching power range of optical transmission links with optical phase conjugator (OPC) and dispersion management (DM) for compensating the distorted wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) signals due to interaction of group velocity dispersion (GVD) and optical nonlinear effects. WDM systems considered in this research have optical links with the random distribution of residual dispersion per span (RDPS) in each single mode fiber (SMF) spans of only one half transmission section for designing the adaptive optical transmission system configurations. It is confirmed that optimal NRD is 10 ps/nm and effective launching power range is obtained to be -8~1 dBm under NRD = 10 ps/nm in optical links with total dispersion controlled by precompensation. And, it is also confirmed that optimal NRD is -10 ps/nm and effective launching power range is obtained to be -7.5~1 dBm under NRD = -10 ps/nm in optical links with total dispersion controlled by postcompensation.
The design rule depending on total transmission length is induced in the optical links with residual dispersion per span (RDPS) of the random distribution, which is adopted for implementing the flexible systems of wavelength division multiplexing (WDM) transmission with dispersion management (DM) and optical phase conjugation. DM parameters used for the analysis of the design rule are the effective net residual dispersion (NRD) and the effective launch power. It is confirmed that the flexible optical network configuration with the total transmission length lower than 1,000 km is possible, because the system performance difference between the randomly distribution and the uniform distribution of RDPS is small. And, in the optical links with the randomly distributed RDPS, the wide NRD can be applied for transmitting WDM channels of the relatively wide launch power.

We propose and experimentally demonstrate a photonic microwave notch filter with a negative coefficient. The negative coefficient is obtained by using cross gain modulation (XGM) in a reflective semiconductor optical amplifier (RSOA). When the RSOA is operated in saturated region, the signal carried on the pump wavelength is inversely copied to the probe wavelength by the XGM effect, showing a negative coefficient. Time delay between pump signal and probe signal is provided by single mode fiber (SMF) with wavelength dependent time delay. The proposed microwave notch filter shows notch dips of more than 35.1 dB and free spectral range (FSR) of about 380.6 MHz.

In this paper, we proposed a diffuion model of Ti diffused lithium niobate optical waveguide for fabricating waveguides with high refractive index and compared with conventional one. The achivement of low optical insertion loss between waveguide interface and single mode fibers was discussed as a function of Ti thickness for $\lambda$=1.55$\mu\textrm{m}$ The proposed diffusion method exhibited higher refractive index waveguide than conventional one for $\lambda$=0.6328$\mu\textrm{m}$ We have achieved the total fiber-waveguide-fiber insertion loss as low as 0.5dB/cm in z-cut and 1$\pm$0.5dB/cm in x-cut for both TM and TE mode of Mach-Zehnder interferometric waveguide in the range of Ti thickness 1000-1400$\AA$ for $\lambda$=1.55$\mu\textrm{m}$ From these results, this diffusion model for making a low loss waveguide can be used for low-power-modulators and switches.
In this paper, we have fabricated by means of the "Micro-Block Stacking (MBS)" method the 8 pin mini DIL integrated Triplexer, which can transmit CATV and voice/data at the same time in a single fiber. Our MBS technique is a novel scheme of compact optical module packaging which secures precision positioning of the components on the optical beam path by prefixed stacks of ceramic blocks. The subassembly in which a laser diode, two receiver photodiodes, two WDM filters, and four micro lenses are integrated is only $5.40mm{\times}2.15mm{\times}1.05mm$ in size. As the Triplexer is aligned to the single mode fiber, the transmitter power of -14.5 dBm and the receiver sensitivities of 0.83 A/W, 0.73 A/W for 1550 nm, 1490 nm, respectively are obtained.

In this paper, we wrote about the basic experimentation of Optical CT's temperature characteristic to measure high-current in a super-high-voltage electric power equipment which is using Faraday effect. We used the 1310[nm] Laser Diode as the light source and PIN Photodiode as receiver. For the transmission line of light, we used 30[m] single mode fiber which could maintain the state of polarization in the optical fiber. For the experiment, the temperature transformation device make by aluminium. the The range of current was from 400[A] and 1300[A] and the range of temperature was from $-40[^{\circ}C]\;to\;50[^{\circ}C]$. In a same experimental condition, magnitude increased input current increase follow by increasing proportion of input current.
Optimal net residual dispersions (NRDs) of inline dispersion management (DM) for compensating the signal distortion of $24{\times}40$ Gbps WDM channels in optical transmission links, in which optical phase conjugator (OPC) is placed from 250 km to 750 km by spacing 50 km in 1,000 km total transmission length of single mode fiber (SMF), are induced as a function of various ope positions. And, performance improvement of WDM channels in transmission links with the induced optimal NRD is investigated by comparing with that in transmission links with NRD = 0 ps/nm. It is confirmed that optimal NRDs are decided by displacement of OPC from mid-way of total transmission length, i.e. 500 km, and the determinating and applying of optimal NRD in case of ope displacement into transmitters is more stable and effective than that in case of ope displacement into receivers from 500 km. Also, it is shown that eye opening penalties (EOPs) of WDM channels in transmission links with optimal NRD are improved by 1.5 dB to 3 dB, which are related with OPC position, from that obtained in transmission links with fixed NRD of 0 ps/nm.
