Performance Comparison of UWB DS-CDMA/OFDM/MC-CDMA System in S-V Channel Environment (S-V채널 환경에서 UWB DS-CDMA/OFDM/MC-CDMA 시스템 성능 비교)

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of UWB MC-CDMA system and compareit with DS-CDMA and OFDM systems, which have been drafting in standardization even now. Too many Rake Fingers are needed in the DS-CDMA system to separate multi-path signals, which results in highsystem complexity. OFDM radio power fails to qualify for FCC certification unless frequency hopping. From this reason, MC-CDMA system considered is proposed in this paper. It has lower complexity compared with DS-CDMA and shows good performance against frequency selective fading. In addition, for a wide-band communication, less radio power per spectrum is allowed in the MC-CDMA system than in an OFDM system. Simulation result show that the DS-CDMA system has better performance with single user, but MC-CDMA system shows best performance in case of multi user environment.

Iterative Pre-Whitening Projection Statistics for Improving Multi-Target Detection Performance in Non-Homogeneous Clutter (불균일 클러터 환경에서 다중 표적탐지 성능 향상을 위한 반복 백색화 투영 통계 기법)

  • In this paper, we propose a modified iterative pre-whitening projection statistics (MIPPS) scheme for improving multi-target detection performance in non-homogeneous clutter environments. As a non-homogeneity detection (NHD) technique of space-time adaptive processing algorithm for airborne radar, the MIPPS scheme improves the average detection probability of weak target when multiple targets with different reflection signal intensities are located in close range. Numerical results show that the conventional NHD schemes suffers from the masking effect by strong targets and clutters and the proposed MIPPS scheme outperforms the conventional schemes with respect to the average detection probability of the weak target at low signal-to-clutter ratio.

  • The importance of sensors on a self-driving vehicle has rising since it act as eyes for the vehicle. Lidar sensors based on laser technology tend to yield better image quality with more laser channels, thus, it has higher detection accuracy for obstacles, pedistrians, terrain, and other vechicles. However, incorporating more laser channels results higher unit price more than ten times, and this is a major drawback for using high channel lidar sensors on a vehicle for actual consumer market. To come up with this drawback, we propose a method of integrating multiple low channel, low cost lidar sensors acting as one high channel sensor. The result uses four 16 channels lidar sensors with small form factor acting as one bulky 64 channels sensor, which in turn, improves vehicles cosmetic aspects and helps widespread of using the lidar technology for the market.

  • The purpose of three-dimensional (3-D) metal printing using 5-axis is to deposit metal powder by changing the orientation of the deposited structure to be built for the overhang or undercut feature on part geometry. This requires a complicated preprocess functionality of providing three dimensionally sliced layers to cover the required part geometry. This study addresses the overhang/undercut problem in 3-D metal printing and discusses a possible solution of providing 3-D layers to be built using the DMT(R) machine.

  • Doppler processing is the heart of pulsed Doppler radar. It gives a clutter elimination and coherent integration. With the improvement of digital signal processors (DPSs), the implementation using them is more widely used in radar systems. Generally, so as for Doppler processor to process the input data in real time, a parallel processing concept using multiple DSPs should be used. This paper implements a programmable Doppler processor, which consists of MTI filter, DFB and square-law detector, using 8 ADSP21060s. Formulating the distribution time of the input data, the transfer time of the output data and the time required to compute each algorithm, it estimates total processing time and the number of required DSP. Finally, using the TSG that provides radar control pulses and simulated target signals, performances of the implemented Doppler processor are evaluated.

  • In this paper, we introduce a modified interference cancellation scheme to overcome MAI in DS-CDMA. Among ICs(Interference Cancellers), PIC(Parallel IC) requires the more complexity, and SIC(Successive IC) faces the problems of the long delay time. Most of all, the adaptive detector achieves the good BER performance using the adaptive filter conducted iteration algorithm. so it requires many iterations. To resolve the problems of them, we propose an improved adaptive detector that the received signal removed MAI through the sorting scheme and the cancellation method are fed into the adaptive filter. Because the improved input signal is fed into the adaptive filter, it has the same BER performance only using smaller iterations than the conventional adaptive detector, and the proposed detector having adaptive filter requires less complexity than the other detectors.

  • ATIS(Advanced Traveler Information System) is the system to offer a real-time traffic information or traffic situation for the benefit of the client. One of traffic information collection methods for ATIS research is the method of image analysis. The method is divided into two : one is the method to set two loop detectors at the area and the other is the method detecting the vehicle through an image analysis. In this paper, we propose a real-time traffic information collection system to mix two methods. The system installs multiple virtual detection lines and traces the location of the vehicle. Use of multiple virtual detection lines supplements the defect of the method of loop detectors. And we drew a representative pixels in the detecting area and used it for image analysis. This is to solve the problem of time delay which increases as the image size increases. We gathered traffic images and experimented using the system and got 92.32% of detection accuracy.

An FPGA Implementation of an MML-DFE for Spatially Multiplexed MIMO Systems (공간다중화 MIMO 시스템을 위한 MML-DFE기법의 FPGA 구현)

  • The ML-DFE(Maximum Likelihood-Decision Feedback Equalization) can be viewed as either a suboptimal signal detection method for reducing hardware complexity of ML or an enhanced detection method for reducing the effect of error propagation of SIC(Successive Interference Cancellation) in spatially multiplexed MIMO systems such as V-BLAST. The ML-DFE can achieve a higher diversity in rich scattering environments as well as reducing the error propagation effect by combing ML decoding with the DFE. In this paper, an MML-DFE(Modified Maximum Likelihood-Decision Feedback Equalization) is proposed to reduce the hardware complexity of the ML-DFE, without compromising performance. It is shown by FPGA implementation that the proposed MML-DFE can achieve the same performance as the ML-DFE with significantly reduced hardware complexity.

Image Compression Using Edge Map And Multi-Sided Side Match Finite-State Vector Quantization (윤곽선 맵과 다중 면 사이드 매치 유한상태 벡터 양자화를 이용한 영상 압축)

  • In this paper, we propose an algorithm which implements a multi-sided side match finite-state vector quantization(MSMVQ). After extracting the edge information from an image and classifying the image into edge blocks or non-edge blocks, we construct an edge map. We subdivide edge blocks into sixteen classes using discrete cosine transform(DCT) AC coefficients. Based on edge map information, a state codebook is made from the master codebook, and side match calculation is done for two-sided or three-sided current block of image. For reducing transmitted bits, a decision is made whether or not to encode the non-edge blocks among the pre-coded blocks by using the master codebook. Also for reducing allocation bits of codeword indices to decoder, a variable length coder is used. Considering the comparison with side match finite-state vector quantization(SMVQ) and two-sided SMVQ(TSMVQ) algorithm about Zelda, Lenna, Bridge and Peppers image, the new algorithm shows better picture quality than SMVQ and TSMVQ respectively.

Multi-sensor Fusion Filter for the Flight Safety System of a Space Launch Vehicle (우주발사체 비행안전시스템을 위한 다중센서 융합필터 구현)

  • Threat due to malfunction of space launch vehicles is significant since it is bigger and flights longer range than military missiles or scientific rockets. It is necessary to implement a flight safety system to minimize the possible hazard. Design objective of the tracking filter for the flight safety system is different from conventional tracking filters since estimation reliability is more emphasized than estimation accuracy. In this paper, a fusion tracking filter was implemented for processing multi-sensor data from a space launch vehicle. The filter performance is evaluated by analyzing the error of the estimated position and instantaneous impact point. Also a fault detection algorithm is implemented to guarantee fusion filter's reliability under any sensor failure and verified to maintain stability successfully.
