  • Acoustic Echo Cancellation(m) is very active research topic having many applications like teleconference and hands-free communication and it employs Double Talk Detector(DTD) to indicate whether the near-end speaker is active or not. However. the DTD is very sensitive to the variation of acoustical environment and it sometimes provides wrong information about the near-end speaker. In this paper, we are focusing on the development of robust DTD algorithm which is a basic building block for reliable AEC system. The proposed AEC system consists of delayless subband AEC and narrow-band DTD. Delayless subband AEC has proven to have excellent performance of echo cancellation with a low complexity and high convergence speed. In addition, it solves the signal delay problem in the existing subband AEC. On the other hand, the proposed narrowband DTD is operating on low frequency subband. It can take most advantages from the narrow subband such as a low computational complexity due to the down-sampling and the reliable DTD decision making procedure because of the low-frequency nature of the subband signal. From the simulation results of the proposed narrowband DTD and wideband DTD, we confirm that the proposed DTD outperforms the wideband DTD in a sense of removing possible false decision making about the near-end speaker activity.

  • An efficient homography estimation method for large sized images is proposed. Estimating an accurate homography is one of the most important parts in image stitching processes. Since hardwares have been advanced, it has been passible to take higher resolution images. However, computational cost for estimating homography has been also increased. Specifically, when too many features exist in the images, it requires lots of computations to estimate a correct homography. Furthermore, there is a high probability of obtaining an incorrect homography. Therefore, we propose a numerical method to extract the appropriate correspondences from several down-scaled images to estimate and compensate the homography numerically for restoring an original homography. Also, if there is an unbalance in color tone between the reference and the target images, we make them balanced by using local information of the overlapped regions. Experimental results show that proposed method is three times faster in 3.2 mega pixel images, five times faster in 8mega pixel images than the conventional approach. Therefore, we believe that the proposed method can be a useful tool to efficiently estimate a homography.

  • We proposed a hopping phase estimator to demodulate the received signals without any hopping information in frequency hopping spread spectrum systems. The demodulation process in this paper is as follows: hopped frequency tracking is accomplished by choosing a frequency component with maximum amplitude after taking discrete Fourier transform and a hopping frequency estimator which estimates the phase generated by hopped frequency is established through difference product and down-sampling. We obtained the probability density function and variance performance of the proposed estimator and confirmed that the analysis and the simulation results were agreed with each other.

  • High-density discrete wavelet transformation is one way to overcome the disadvantages of the standard wavelet transform of shift invariant because it increases the number of subband signals. In this paper, high-density discrete wavelet transform consisting of three channels is applied in a two-dimensional image processing. Experimental results show that the proposed method is well satisfied with the shift invariant and is excellent directional selectivity because it could generate many subband images.

  • This paper concerns auto vergence control of a parallel stereoscopic camera through geometrical analysis. In the construction of a parallel stereoscopic camera, we experimentally demonstrated linear relationship between the key object distance and the amount of vergence control. And we proposed a vergence control system for the stereoscopic camera using binocular disparity information. For the real-time calculation of disparity information, the Hybrid Cepstral filter algorithm, with input data acquired from the vertical projection data and from the down sampling data from the source images, was proposed for precision and high speed processing. With the disparity information algorithm and the vergence control of the parallel stereoscopic camera system, the stereoscopic images become more like those of the human eye.

  • Among the main technologies to implement 3D TV succeeding HDTV, multi-viewpoint image display technique is rising as an important issue, which can display the viewpoint-dependent images corresponding to viewer's position. This paper presents a novel method that solves too much computational overload that is main drawback of previous methods. Using down sampling technique, multiresolution EPIs are made from multi-viewpoint image set and trace lines are detected in the lowest resolution EPI. The parameters of detected trace lines are transferred to higher resolution EPIs and revised by utilizing the information of the previous resolution EPI. This procedure is iterated until orignal resolution EPI. Using the proposed method, we have achieved the reduction of computational time and the robustness to noise in comparison to previous method.

  • We do research on the simulation of Doppler effect from a target's moving under the sea by Transmission Line Matrix modeling which is one of numerical methods on time domain. To implement the effect, the input signal was entered at a moving node according to a moving target's moving speed. The result had maximum 2.47% error compared with the theoretical value. And from simulation results with speed control of a moving target, we could also obtain resonable results within 0.63% error range.

  • An image interpolation is a basis technique for various image processing and is required to minimize approaches for image quality deterioration. In this paper, we propose an improved bilinear interpolation using loss information estimation. In the proposed algorithm, we estimate loss information of low resolution image using down-sampling and interpolation of acquisition low resolution. The estimated loss information is utilized interpolated image, and it decrease image quality deterioration. Our experiments obtained the average PSNR 0.97~1.79dB which is improved results better than conventional method for sensitive image quality. Also, subjective image quality with edge region is more clearness. The proposed method may be helpful for applications in various multimedia systems such as image resolution enhancement and image restoration.

  • In this study, a procedure for the inverse estimation of the fatigue life parameters of springs which utilize the field fatigue life test data is proposed to replace real test with the FEA on fatigue life prediction. The Bayesian approach is employed, in which the posterior distributions of the parameters are determined conditional on the accumulated life data that are routinely obtained from the regular tests. In order to obtain the accurate samples from the distributions, the Markov chain Monte Carlo (MCMC) technique is employed. The distributions of the parameters are used in the FEA for predicting the fatigue life in the form of a predictive interval. The results show that the actual fatigue life data are found well within the posterior predictive distributions.
