Radial and axial variations of microfibril angle (MFA) within stems of three commercial softwoods (Pinus densiflora, Pinus koraiensis and Pinus rigida) grown in Korea were examined by iodine crystal deposition method. The average MFA were $16.4^{\circ}$ in Pinus densiflora, 14.4, in Pinus koraiensis, and $26.2^{\circ}$ in Pinus rigida, respectively. The MFA in earlywood and latewood decreased with age to about 15~20 years, and then remained almost constant. The MFA of latewood was slightly smaller than that of earlywood. The MFA in the three species was a little smaller at the base of stem and decreased slightly with increasing tree height, but no significant difference by height was identified only in earlywood of Pinus rigida. Consequently, it was considered that the MFA could be an useful index for identifying juvenile wood and adult wood of Pinus densiflora, Pinus. koraiensis and Pinus rigida.
The objective of this work is to examine anatomical and physical characteristics of wood damaged by pine needle gall midge(PNGM, Thecodiplosis japonensis Uchida et Inouye) in Pinus densiflora. In anatomical characteristics, it was noted that the number of axial and radial resin canals in the damaged wood was higher than that in sound wood. In damaged wood, green moisture content of sapwood and swelling and shrinkage was higher than sound wood. Both longitudinal compressive strength and bending strength of the damaged wood were lower than those of sound wood. On the other hand, shearing strength of damaged wood was similar to that of sound wood.

This paper reports the physical and shrinkage properties of concrete using expansive additive(E) and three shrinkage reducing admixtures(SRA1, 2, 3) in order to reduce shrinkage of concrete. For the properties of fresh concrete, the use of SRA1, 2, 3 results in a increase in fluidity and decrease in the dosage of super plasticizer as much as 0.05$\sim$0.1%. And For the properties of hardened concrete, the use of SRA1, 2, 3 results in a decrease in compressive, tensile and flexural strength slightly. For drying shrinkage properties, the use of SRA3 is the most effective for reduction of shrinkage, and the next best way to reduce shrinkage is combination with expansive additive(E) and shrinkage reducing admixture(SRA) or the using of expansive additive(E).
This study was performed to understand the changes in wood extractives, mainly acetone extracts, in pine woods (Pinus densiflora and Pinus rigida) treated by three blue stain fungi (BSF) such as native BSF in Korea, Leptographium sp., screened Albino strain (BSFcs-1) and commercial Cartapip. BSF treatment has significantly reduced acetone extracts, 25.1~30.4% decreasing in red pine and 22.9~28.1% in pitch pine. The decreasing rates of fatty acids and sterols in woods were 10.6~11.2% by 3 week aging and 36~41.1% by BSF treatments, respectively. Triglycerides were also decreased to 5.68~9.4% by 3 week aging and 38.5~40.0% by BSF treatments, respectively. Resin acids were 6.1~11.3% by 3 week aging and 36~41.5% by BSF treatments, respectively. There were not so significant differences in extracts among native BSF and Albino-type strains (Albino strain, BSFcs-1, and commercial Cartapip). It was known that the Albino strain (BSFcs-1) screened for the biocontrol of wood discoloration has effectively decreased acetone extractives in pine woods.

The objective of this paper is to explore the possibility of reuse of waste vegetable oil (WO) as an autogenous shrinkage reducer for high strength concrete and to compare the amount of autogenous shrinkage of the mortar using existing shrinkage reducing agent(SR) and expansive additives(EA). According to test results, as the dosages of WO increased, flow value exhibited to decrease, while the use of SR increased flow value. For the effect of WO on strength, although the use of SR and WO resulted in a slight decrease in compressive strength at early age, at 91 days they had similar strength level of the plain mixture. For autogenous shrinkage, as expected, the addition of WO, SR and EA resulted in a decrease of autogeneous shrinkage considerably especially, WO had superiority in autogenous shrinkage reducing effect compared with the case of SR and EA.
When greenhouse gas mitigation policies are implemented, energy intensive manufacturing industries are influenced much due to an increase in cost. However, industries that have price setting power are damaged less by the policies. Therefore, this paper analyzes vulnerability of energy intensive manufacturing industries to the policies by measuring price setting power of the industries. We analyzed price setting power model through ECM, employing the import prices and wages as independent variables. The industries that their prices react to import prices are price takers, which their prices are determined by rival's ones. On the other hand, the industry that their prices react to wages that mean domestic cost are price setters, and they will be less vulnerable to the policies. In addition, fluctuation of energy prices would be reflected in import prices because it influences other countries than my one. Thus, we employed energy prices as control variable to measure the net effects of import prices. As empirical results, petroleum products, chemical products, non-metallic mineral products, textiles, and motor vehicles sector have price setting power, so the industries have competitiveness on greenhouse gas mitigation policies.
In Korea, a study on the anatomical features of pitch pine (pinus rigida Miller) branch wood through photo-microscopical method was reported in 1972 by Lee. Therefore, as a further study of Lee's on the anatomical features in branch wood of pinus rigida miller that grows in Korea, compression wood, opposite wood, and side wood were selected and treated for the purpose of comparing their structures revealed on cross and radial surface through scanning electron microscope in this study. The obtained results in this study were summarized as follows; 1. The trachied transition from earlywood to late wood is very gradual and the tracheids are nearly regular in both arrangement and size in compression wood but this transition in opposite wood and side wood is abrupt and the tracheids in opposite wood and side wood are less regular than those in compression wood. Also, the annual ring width of opposite wood is narrower than that of compression wood or side wood and the rays revealed on cross surface of side wood are more distinct than compression wood and opposite wood rays. 2. The tracheids of compression wood show roundish trends especially in earlywood but those of opposite wood and side wood show some angular trends. And intercellular space, helical cavity, and spiral check are present in both earlywood and latewood of compression wood but not present in opposite wood and side wood irrespective of earlywood and latewood. 3. The wall thickness of latewood tracheid is similar to that of earlywood tracheid in compression wood whereas the wall thickness of latewood tracheid is by far thicker than that of earlywood tracheid in opposite wood and side wood and the S3 layer of secondary wall is lack in compression wood tracheid unlike opposite wood and side wood tracheid. 4. The tracheids in compression wood are often distorted at their tips unlike those in opposite wood and side wood and the bordered pit in compression wood tracheid is located at the bottom of helical groove unlike that in opposite wood and side wood tracheid. 5. The bordered pits in radial wall of opposite wood and side wood tracheids are oval in shape but those of compression wood tracheids show some modified oval shape. 6. In earlywood of side wood, the small apertures of cross-field pits are roundish triangle to rectangle and the large one are fenestriform through the coalition of two small ones. However, the small apertures of cross-field pits are upright oval and the large ones are procumbent oval shape in earlywood of opposite wood and the apertures of cross-field pits in compression wood are tilted bifacial convex lens shape in earlywood and slit in late wood because of the border on tracheid side.
The steel ribs which are used to enhance the supporting capability of the shotcrete are estimated to be very effective, but their characteristics depending on the types of steel support are not well understood enough to be considered in the design stage. This paper describes the behavior of the shotcrete reinforced by various types of steel supports. Through flexural toughness test, major strength parameters such as flexural tensile strength, equivalent flexural tensile strength and residual tensile strength were obtained and used in the numerical analyses. Test results show that steel rebar was not as dependable as H-beam or lattice girder but close examination of the test results revealed that the specimen was failed in shear because of the shorter span than desired. Therefore tests on the properly dimensioned specimens are necessary for valid evaluation of the steel rebar reinforced shotcrete. In the first set of numerical stability analyses, shotcrete and steel supports were modelled separately. Then compared with the second set of analyses in which shotcrete and steel supports were regarded as a composite material. The two results coincided reasonably and this equivalent model turned out to be useful.
Pozzolan is to improve the strength and the durability of concrete as a result of the pozzolanic reaction, Broadly speaking, pozzolanic materials can be artificial materials, such as slica fume and fly ash, and natural material, such as rice husk ash, clay, volcanic ash, clayish pozzolan. Hwangtoh is a mineral which belongs to a group of matakaolin, especially halloysite, and the main elements is SiO$_2$, Al$_2$O$_3$, Fe$_2$O$_3$. The purpose of this study is to examine the application of Hwangtoh for the concrete admixtures, the composition of this study is shown as follows. Chapter I is analysis for properties of concrete as the kinds of admixture, and Chapter H is analysis for properties of concrete as the replacement ratio of activated Hwangtoh. As a result of this study, Hwangtoh is found to have high practical use as pozzolanic material, and the pertinent range of replacement ratios of Hwangtoh on cement are 10∼20 %.
