  • Lifeboat davit is composed of main frame, main arm, upper arm and support bar. In this paper, design parameters that affect the bending stiffness were set as plate thickness, width and hight of upper arm. To analyze the influence of parameter factors, FEM and Taguchi Method were used. This paper will help substantially in many industries.

Application of Finite Element Method and Taguchi Method to Reduce Floor Impact Vibration in Apartment Buildings (공동주택의 바닥충격진동 저감을 위한 유한요소법 및 다구찌법의 활용)

  • Finite element method and Taguchi method were used to reduce the floor impact vibration of the reinforced concrete slab in the apartment buildings. At first, experimental results show that sound peak components to influence the rating of floor impact sound insulation were coincident with natural frequencies of the reinforced concrete slab, and there is a high linear relation between floor impact vibration and sound. The tables of orthogonal arrays were used for finite element analysis with 5 factors related to slab shape parameters and its results were analyzed by statistical method. The most effective factor to reduce the floor impact vibration was the length of living/kitchen room and the floor impact vibration was predicted by 30% reduction in the acceleration peak by the optimal design values of the factors.

  • Recently, the regulations from the government and the concerns of people be raised to the interest in exhaust and intake noise of passenger car as much as other vehicles. In these demands, performance prediction software was developed in this paper. In this study, Robust design was used for improving the noise reduction capacity of intake system with the performance prediction software. On the basis of the existing design, length and radius of each component that was thought to be effective to the performance of intake system was selected. At first, factors are arranged by using Ll8 table of orthogonal array and then optimum value can be obtained by modified Ll6 table of orthogonal array.

Optimized Design of O-ring Groove in LPG Filling Unit Using Taguchi Experimental Method (다구찌 실험법을 이용한 LPG 충전노즐 O-링 그루브의 최적화 설계연구)

  • In this paper, the optimized design of a rectangular O-ring groove has been analyzed for a maximum Cauchy stress and maximum strain using the Taguchi method. This method may efficiently optimize the design parameters for an O-ring groove of a LPG filling unit. The computed FEM results indicate that the optimized design parameters can only be drawn by nine experimental numbers of iterations when the Taguchi design technique has been employed with a finite element method. This means that the Taguchi design method is very useful for the optimization design of O-ring rectangular groove geometry. Based on the computed FEM results by the Taguchi design technique, the dimensions of a groove geometry are given as h=2.5 mm, d=2.74 mm, c=0.15 mm, and w=3.0 mm. In this study, the initial compression ratio of O-rings is recommended as 8.7% for a gas supply pressure of 18 $kg/cm^2$.

  • In this paper, the metal seal for a pressure vessel has been analyzed using the Daguchi method. This method may efficiently optimize the design parameters for a cantilever sealing device of a pressure vessel in terms of dimensions and angles. The computed results indicate that the optimized design parameters can only be drawn by sixteen experimental numbers of iterations when the Daguchi design technique has been employed. This means that the Daguchi design method is very useful for the optimization design of the curved design of the structure. Based on the computed results by the Daguchi design technique, the dimension and angle of the metal seal structure are given as $d_1=50mm,\;d_2=60mm,\;a_1=20^{\circ},\;a_2=8^{\circ},\;a_3=5^{\circ}$.

Robust Design of a Driver-Side Airbag Using the Taguchi Method (다구찌법을 이용한 운전석 에어백의 강건설계)

  • In the proto design stage of a new car, the performances of an occupant protection system can be evaluated by CAE even though the real test should be carried out. The number of the real test is reduced by the exact predictions followed by the appropriate design recommendation. However, the existing researches using CAE in predicting the performances do not consider the uncertainties of parameters. That often leads to inconsistency between test and CAE. In this research, the robust design of a protection system such as airbag and load limiter is suggested considering the frontal crash. The parameter design scheme of the Taguchi method is introduced to obtain the robust design of arbitrary airbag and load limiter. It is performed based on the frontal crash test condition of US-NCAP with an arbitrary passenger car. The variances of the performances such as HIC, chest acceleration and probability of combined injury are calculated by the outer array and the Taylor series expansion. Through the analysis of the Taguchi method, the robust optimum is determined.

  • On this study, we improved diaphgram for micro speaker performance using Taguchi method in discrete design space. The design of diaphgram has an effect on performance of micro speaker such as, thickness of diaphgram, shape of diaphgram, etc. Therefore this study carried to decide shape of diaphgram and thickness of diaphgram for minimizing 2nd natural frequency of diaphgram using Taguchi method. we showed improved design factors that minimized 2nd natural frequency of diaphgram. Also, 2nd natural frequency of diaphgram for micro speaker is reduced up to 37 percent maintaining twist mode shape. From the results of ANOVA, 2nd natural frequency of diaphgram for micro speaker have an effect on position of the outer curved shape and thickness of diaphgram.

  • In this study, a PDMS-based low-elasticity magnetorheological elastomer (MRE) was fabricated and the Taguchi method was used to identify the factors affecting the elastic modulus. The mixing entropy was calculated using optical microscopy to confirm particle dispersion, which was referenced in the process establishment. In the MRE process, four parameters, namely the curing agent, particle type, particle fraction, and applied magnetic field, were divided into three levels. The elastic modulus of the specimen was compared at the off-state and at 0.2 T using compression tests, and the obtained signal to noise ratio indicated that the softness and change in the elastic modulus of the MRE was mainly affected by the curing agent and the particle fraction.

  • The design of an occupant protection equipment has been considered as the important process in developing a new car since the crash performance plays an important role on the market. The cost is increased when an unexpected real test is carried out in the proto-design stage. Thus, the exact prediction of a crash performance can reduce the number of full-car test. In this research, the robust design of an airbag system considering the frontal crash is suggested to predict the more reliable responses. On the contrary, most existing researches do not consider the uncertainties. The uncertainties treated in this research are the tolerances of the vent hole, the time to fire and the length of a strap in airbag and the tolerance of the load limiter load in seat belt. The Taguchi method is utilized to determine the robust optimum of each parameter
