An ejector is a fluid transfer device to be used for mixing of fluids, maintaining vacuum, and overcoming a poor suction condition. To date, most ejectors have been made from the casting process. which is time-consuming and high-cost process. Therefore, a new production method of ejectors is desired if any. In this experimental study, we proposed a new type ejector manufactured from the commercial fitting materials and the welding process, which is equipped with an orifice type nozzle. The proposed ejector has a good integrity compared with the conventional ejector because the fittings have manufactured by forging and they have more strength than the casting materials. Furthermore we adopted a multi-opening orifice type nozzle for improving a suction capacity and compared with a single-opening orifice type nozzle. From the experimental results. we confirmed that the multi-opening nozzle had a food suction capacity than the single-opening nozzle and the proposed new type ejector showed higher vacuum than the conventional type ejector in non-load condition. These improved characteristics suggests that a new type ejector by using the commercial fittings opens the feasibility to be adopted in various industry fields and that the increased suction capacity can be achieved by altering the nozzle design of a conventional ejector.
When a moist air is rapidly expanded in a supersonic nozzle, nonequilibrium condensation occurs at a supersaturation state. Condensation shock wave appears in the nozzle flow if the releasing latent heat due to condensation goes beyond a critical value. It has been known that self-excited oscillations of the condensation shock wave generate in an air or a steam nozzle flow with a large humidity. In the present study, the passive control technique using porous wall with a cavity underneath was applied to the condensation shock wave. The effects of the passive control on the steady and self-excited condensation shock waves were experimentally investigated by Schlieren visualization and static pressure measurements. The result shows that the present passive control is a useful technique to suppress the self-excited oscillations of condensation shock wave.
The objective of this study is to investigate the effect of multi-hole nozzle on the performance of small CRDI engine. Combustion and exhaust emission characteristics of engine were studied by using CFD simulation with ECFM-3Z combustion model. The conditions of simulation were varied with nozzle geometry, injection timing and injection quantity. In addition, the results were compared in terms of combustion pressure, rate of heat release, $NO_x$ and soot emissions. It was found that combustion pressure was increased when injection timing was advanced. The rate of heat release of 6 hole nozzle was higher than that of 12 hole nozzle since the quantity of fuel impinged at the bottom of piston rim was different under different injection timing conditions. In the case of $NO_x$ emission, 6 hole nozzle generated more $NO_x$ emission than 12 hole nozzle. On the other hand, in the case of soot emission, 12 hole nozzle showed higher value than 6 hole nozzle because injected fuel droplets from multi-hole nozzle were coalesced.
This study describes the analysis results of unsteady cavitating flows behavior inside nozzle of the prototype piezo-driven injector. This piezo-driven injector has been recognised as one of the next generation diesel injector due to a higher driven efficiency than the conventional solenoid-driven injector. The three dimensional geometry model along the central cross-section regarding of one injection hole has been used to simulate the cavitating flows for injection time by at fully transient simulation with cavitation model. The cavitation model incorporates many of the fundamental physical processes assumed to take place in cavitating flows. The simulations performed were both fully transient and 'pseudo' steady state, even if under steady state boundary conditions. We could analyze the effect the pressure drop to the sudden acceleration of fuel, which is due to the fastest response of needle, on the degree of cavitation existed in piezo-driven injector nozzle
This experimental study is to investigate the intermittent spray characteristics of the multi-hole diesel nozzle with a 2-spring nozzle holder. Without changing the total orifice exit area, its hole number varied from 3($d_n=0.42mm$) to 8($d_n$=0.25mm). Through the use of the 2-D PDPA(phase Doppler particle analyzer), the droplet diameter and the velocity of the diesel spray injected intermittently from the multi-hole nozzle into the still ambient were measured. And the calculations of time-resolved diameters, SMD and AMD were made. The results can be summarized as follows. The spray of the multi-hole nozzle consisted of three parts. These are the leading edge, the central part and the trailing edge. And most of droplets produced at the trailing edge of spray. In the spray flow field, the measuring position which represented the intermittent spray characteristics well was near the nozzle tip. But at the downstream of the spray, its characteristics disappeared, and spray behavior showed a quasi steady state regardless of the time evolution of the spray. The overall mean SMD of the spray increased with the spray development, and showed their maximum value near 1.5ms regardless of hole number.
This experimental study is to investigate the intermittent spray characteristics of a multi-hole nozzle in a heavy-duty DI diesel engine. Multi 8 hole$(d_n=0.25mm)$, Multi 3 hole$(d_n=0.42)$ and Sing hole nozzle$(d_n=0.25mm)$ were used in this experiment. By using the 2-D PDPA(phase Doppler particle analyzer), the droplet diameter and the velocity of a diesel spray injected intermittently from the multi and the single-hole nozzle into a still ambient were measured. In order to calculate the mean values such as mean velocity, SMD, AMD etc. and to analyze the intermittent characteristics, the time-window of 0.15ms were applied. In the spray, the small droplet$(D<10{\mu}m)$ was regarded as an air flow, and the correlation between the fuel droplet$(10{\mu}m and the air (low was examined. The normalized axial droplet-air relative velocity of the 8 hole, the 3 hole and the single hole nozzle was evaluated as 0.081, 0.067, 0.06 and in case of the radial droplet-air relative velocity, the normalized. value is 0.014, 0.013 and 0.008 respectively.
An experimental study was performed on the orifice nozzle system that generates micro-bubbles by air self-suction using a venturi nozzle. This study experimentally investigates the amount of air sucked into the venturi nozzle and the number of micro-bubbles generated by the orifice nozzle system in Cases 1 and 2. The experimental conditions were varied by changing the diameter of the orifice nozzle (d=2~7 mm) and the number of holes of the perforated plate nozzle (n = 2-12). In Case 1, the air self-suction was more than 2 LPM at $d{\leq}4mm$. When d = 4 mm, the total number of bubbles was 29,777, and it was confirmed that micro-bubbles occupied approximately 65% of the total number of bubbles. In Case 2, the air self-suction was maintained constant at approximately 2.5 LPM regardless of the number (n) of holes. The total amount of bubbles increased when n increased but remained constant at approximately 44,000 when $n{\geq}7EA$. It was also confirmed that more than 80% of all bubbles were micro-bubbles when $n{\geq}10EA$. Thus, the number of micro-bubbles increased by approximately 15% compared to the experimental result of Case 1, which was optimized with d = 4 mm.
In this study, the effect of flow settling means on the performance of fan tester were numerically investigated by using a computational fluid dynamics (CFD). The airflow rate was calculated from the pressure differential across a flow nozzle in the measuring plane and the flow settling means were generally installed in the chamber of the fan tester to provide proper airflow patterns ahead of the measuring plane. The predicted nozzle differential pressures with uniform inlet velocities were compared with the values of the ANSI/AMCA 210-99 to verify the performance of the commercial CFD code CFX 5.6. The influence of flow settling means on the measurement of airflow rate in a fan tester were discussed with various porosities and inlet jet velocities. The results obtained show that the proper band of porosities exist to meet the AMCA standard in a specified inlet jet velocity.
A perforated tube nozzle as an exhaust noise suppressor of a high-speed civil transport(HSCT) is proposed. The experimental results for the near and far field sound. the visualization of jet structures and the static pressure distributions in the jet passing through a perforated tube are presented and discussed in comparison with those for a simple tube. It is shown that the perforated tube has an excellent performance to greatly reduce the shock-associated noise and that also the turbulent mixing noise is reduced in the range of a limited jet pressure ratio. This considerable noise reduction is due to the pressure relief caused by the through-flow through the perforated holes. Such a pressure relief results in the transformation of normal shock waves into weak Mach waves of X -type and increases the thrust force of the perforated tube nozzle.
