Adsorption Studies of Nickel(II) Ions onto Amorphous Alumina (무정형 알루미나에서의 니켈(II) 이온의 흡착에 관한 연구)

  • Adsorption behaviors of Ni(II) ions were investigated using amorphous alumina as adsorbent. In the adsorption kinetic study, it was observed that Ni(II) ions were bound to the alumina surface in two adsorption stages, the rapid and slow adsorption stages. The rapid adsorption proceeded within 1 hr, thereafter the slow adsorption occurred. The results of adsorption isotherm experiments showed that the Ni(II) adsorption obeyed the Langmuir-Freundlich isotherm, and that the adsorption enhanced with increasing pH. The change in ionic strength did not exhibit a conspicuous trend in Ni(II) adsorption, thereby suggesting that the adsorption occurs through surface complexation rather than electrostatic interactions. The amounts of adsorption were measured with varying pH at three different Ni(II) concentrations under the condition of constant ionic strength, showing that with increasing Ni(II) concentration, the percentage of adsorption decreased and the adsorption edge was shifted to a higher pH value.

침투법(infiltration)을 이용한 고체 산화물 연료전지용 복합체 전극 제조 및 평가

  • 산소 이온 전도성 세라믹을 이용한 고체 산화물 연료전지의 전극은 원활한 전기화학반응을 위해, 이온 전도도, 전자 전도도 및 전기화학적 활성을 동시에 가지고 있어야 한다. 이를 위해 복합체 전극을 사용하며, 특히 음극의 경우 니켈(Nickel)과 Yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ)로 이루어진 복합체 전극을 혼합 및 소결을 통해 제조하여 사용하였다. 하지만, 니켈의 경우 탄화 수소 연료에서의 탄소 침적 문제와 열악한 산화환원 안정성(redox stability)등의 문제점을 가지고 있다. 따라서 니켈대신 전도성 세라믹을 사용한 세라믹 복합체 음극 개발이 활발히 이루어지고 있으며, 그 중 침투법(infiltration method)을 이용한 복합체 전극 제조 방법을 소개한다. 실제로 니켈 금속과 유사한 높은 전기 전도도를 갖는 Sr-doped Lanthanum Vanadate (LSV)을 이용해, YSZ-LSV 복합체 전극을 침투법을 이용해 제조하고, 소량의 촉매을 첨가하여, 이온전도도, 전자 전도도 및 촉매 활성을 갖는 복합체 음극을 제조하였다. 이 복합체 음극의 탄화수소에서의 연료전지 성능 및 redox stability을 측정하였다.

  • Ferro-Nickel slag is a byproduct of Ferro-Nickel manufacturing process. Ferro-Nickel slag mostly discarded or used as aggregates despite having useful ingredients such as magnesium oxide and silicon oxide. This study tried to extract process for Mg ion using $H_2SO_4$ solution. And remove impurities and get high purity $Mg(OH)_2$ using NaOH. Mg ion was extracted with the Fe ion and other Ferro-Nickel slag composition by $H_2SO_4$ solution. It is important to control the pH because remove impurities and obtain high-purity $Mg(OH)_2$. The impurities were removed by precipitation of the hydroxides. After this process, we added NaOH and high-purity $Mg(OH)_2$ was obtained.

  • In order to investigate the separation of Co(II) and Ni(II) by ionic liquids from weak hydrochloric acid solutions, extraction experiments were performed by changing the type and concentration of ionic liquids and the initial pH of the aqueous phase. Two kinds of ionic liquids based on Aliquat 336 were employed in this work; one was synthesized by reacting organophosphorus acids(D2EHPA, PC88A, Cyanex 272, Cyanex 301) with Aliquat 336 and the other was prepared by exchanging the chloride ion of Aliquat 336 with SCN-. The three types of ionic liquids (ALi-D2, ALi-PC, and ALi-CY272) showed better extraction of Co(II) than Ni(II), and the equilibrium pH was higher than the initial pH. In the case of ALi-CY301, the selectivity of Co(II) and Ni(II) depended on the extraction conditions. In addition, the effect of the addition of TBP to the ionic liquid on the extraction of two metals was also investigated. Employment of ALi-SCN as an extractant resulted in selective extraction of Co(II) and complete separation of the two metal ions was possible.

  • In order to recycle waste nickel-cadmium batteries, cadmium was selectively removed by ion substitution reaction so that cadmium and nickel could be separated efficiently. The electrode powder obtained by crushing the electrode in the waste nickelcadmium battery was leached with sulfuric acid. The cadmium in the nickel-cadmium solution was precipitated with cadmium sulfide by the addition of sodium sulfide. Ion substitution experiments were carried out under various conditions. At the optimum condition with pH = -0.1 and $Na_2S/Cd=2.3$ at room temperature, the residual Cd in the solution was about 100 ppm, and most of it was precipitated with CdS.

  • This paper presents the conceptual design of the electrical power system using Li-ion cell technology for a satellite application. Compared to a conventional NiCd cell, a Li-ion cell has a lot of advantages such as an energy density, mass and a volume. Normally, a Li-ion cell has three times than conventional NiCd cells in a capacity such as a cell voltage. The normal voltage of a NiCd cell is around +1.2V and a Li-ion cell could be in +3.6V. However, the handling procedure for a Li-ion cell in charge and discharge might be difficult than a conventional NiCd cell, which means that the charge and discharge of each cell should be monitored and controlled by electrical circuits to prevent an over-charge and over-discharge. Therefore, in this paper we propose the design consideration and the characteristics of a Li-ion cell during charging and discharging battery packs in the point of view of electrical power system.

Synthesis of Pan Fibrous ion-Exchanger by Hydrolysis and Their Adsorption Properties for Nickel Ion (가수분해에 의한 PAN섬유 이온교환체의 합성 및 Ni$^{2+}$ 흡착 특성)

  • In order to recover nickel ion from waste water containing heavy metals, the PAN fibrous ion-exchanger with primary, secondary amine groups and carboxyl group was synthesized by acid and base hydrolysis. The hydrolysis yield of PAN fiber in acid solution was higher than base solution. The swelling ratio and ion-exchange capacity of PAN fiber which was synthesized in 1N $H_2SO_4$ solution at $80^{\circ}C$ for 7 hrs appeared 71.2% and 1.95 meq/g respectively. We investigated that the adsorption of nickel ion was approached 1.44 meq/g at 50 min and the maximum adsorption capacity of ion-exchanger was 2.48 meq/g. We confirmed that the $Ni^{+2}$ adsorption ability of the synthesized PAN fibrous ion-exchanger in this study is excellent.

Comparative Study on Recovery of Nickel by Ion Exchange and Electrodialysis (이온교환과 전기투석을 이용한 니켈회수의 비교연구)

  • It is difficult to treat wastewater involved in heavy metal in electroplating industry. Recently, many industries adopt the clean technology to prevent production of pollutant in the process or reuse after the appropriate pollutant treatment. In this study, we estimate the ability of recovery of nickel and the efficiency using lab-scale ion exchange and electrodialysis process with electroplating industry wastewater. In the ion exchange experiments with 5 types of resin, the result showed that S 1467(gel-type strong acidic cation exchange resin) has the highest exchange capacity. And it showed that the 4 N HCl has the highest in regeneration efficiency and maximum concentration in the regeneration experiments with various kinds md concentration of the regenerant. During the electrodialysis experiments, we varied the current density, the concentration of electrode rinse solution, the flow rate of concentrate and electrode rinse solution in order to find the optimum operating condition. As a result, we obtained $250A/m^2$ of current density, 2 N $H_2SO_4$ of concentration of electrode rinse solution, 30 mL/min of flow rate of concentrate and electrode rinse solution as the best operating conditions. We performed the scale-up experiments on the basis of ion exchange and electrodialysis experiments. And we obtained the experimental result that exchange capacity of S 1467 was 1.88 eq/L resin, and regeneration efficiency was 93.7% in the ion exchange scale-up experiment, we also got the result that concentration and dilution efficiency increased, and current efficiency kept constant in the scale-up experiments.

  • Ni-graphi~e composite powders were prepared by reduct ion of $Ni^{++}$ from arnmoniacal nickel sulfate solution on graphite core by hydrogen gas at elevated temperature and pressure. Effect of coating catalyst. Anthraquinone $(C_6H_4COC_6H_4 CO)$, on the reduction rate and the properties of nickel layer were investigated by SEM, X-ray, size and chemical analysis. 1nduct.ion period, a time lag between the ~njection of hydrogen gas and the start of the reduction, was 22 to 70 mins and was affected by the size and amount of Anthraquinone. Kickel layer deposited on the surface of graphite core material was composed of nickel nodules whose sizes were different with vari~ ous reduction conditions. Minimum diameter of nickel nodules was about 2-3$\mu \textrm m$.

Separation of Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II), and Si(IV) from Synthetic Sulfate and Chloride Solutions by Ion Exchange (황산과 염산 합성용액에서 이온교환에 의한 니켈(II), 코발트(II), 망간(II) 및 실리케이트(IV)의 분리)

  • Reduction smelting of spent lithium-ion batteries at high temperature produces metallic alloys. Following solvent extraction of the leaching solutions of these metallic alloys with either sulfuric or hydrochloric acid, the raffinate is found to contain Ni(II), Co(II), Mn(II), and Si(IV). In this study, two cationic exchange resins (Diphonix and P204) were employed to investigate the loading behavior of these ions from synthetic sulfate and chloride solutions. Experimental results showed that Ni(II), Co(II), and Mn(II) could be selectively loaded onto the Diphonix resin from a sulfate solution of pH 3.0. With a chloride solution of pH 6.0, Mn(II) was selectively loaded onto the P204 resin, leaving Ni(II) and Si(IV) in the effluent. Elution experiments with H2SO4 and/or HCl resulted in the complete recovery of metal ions from the loaded resin.
