From the point view of credit evaluation whose population is divided into the default and non-default state, two methods are considered to estimate conditional distribution functions: one is to estimate under the assumption that the data is followed the mixture normal distribution and the other is to use the kernel density estimation. The parameters of normal mixture are estimated using the EM algorithm. For the kernel density estimation, five kinds of well known kernel functions and four kinds of the bandwidths are explored. In addition, the corresponding ROC functions are obtained based on the estimated distribution functions. The goodness-of-fit of the estimated distribution functions are discussed and the performance of the ROC functions are compared. In this work, it is found that the kernel distribution functions shows better fit, and the ROC function obtained under the assumption of normal mixture shows better performance.

The progressive degradation paths of structures have quantitatively been tracked by using stochastic processes, such as Wiener process, gamma process and compound Poisson process, in order to consider both the sampling uncertainty due to the usual lack of damage data and the temporal uncertainty associated with the deterioration evolution. Several important features of stochastic processes which should carefully be considered in application of the stochastic processes to practical problems have been figured out through assessing cumulative damage and lifetime distribution as a function of time. Especially, the Wiener process and the gamma process have straightforwardly been applied to armors of rubble-mound breakwaters by the aid of a sample path method based on Melby's formula which can estimate cumulative damage levels of armors over time. The sample path method have been developed to calibrate the related-parameters required in the stochastic modelling of armors of rubble-mound breakwaters. From the analyses, it is found that cumulative damage levels of armors have surely been saturated with time. Also, the exponent of power law in time, that plays a significant role in predicting the cumulative damage levels over time, can easily be determined, which makes the stochastic models possible to track the cumulative damage levels of armors of rubble-mound breakwaters over time. Finally, failure probabilities with respect to various critical limits have been analyzed throughout its anticipated service life.

The change of hazard rates at some unknown time point has been the interest of many statisticians. But it was restricted to the constant hazard rates which correspond to the exponential distribution. In this paper we generalize the change-point model in which any specific functional forms of hazard rates are net assumed. The assumed model includes various types of changes before and after the unknown time point. The Nelson estimator of cumulative hazard function is introduced. We estimate the change-point maximizing slope changes of Nelson estimator. Consistency and asymptotic distribution of bootstrap estimator are obtained using the martingale theory. Through a Monte Carlo study we check the performance of the proposed method. We also explain the proposed method using the Stanford Heart Transplant Data set.

For credit assessment models, the ROC curves evaluate the classification performance using two univariate cumulative distribution functions of the false positive rate and true positive rate. In this paper, it is extended to two bivariate normal distribution functions of default and non-default borrowers; in addition, the bivariate ROC curves are proposed to represent the joint cumulative distribution functions by making use of the linear function that passes though the mean vectors of two score random variables. We explore the classification performance based on these ROC curves obtained from various bivariate normal distributions, and analyze with the corresponding AUROC. The optimal threshold could be derived from the bivariate ROC curve using many well known classification criteria and it is possible to establish an optimal cut-off criteria of bivariate mixture distribution functions.

The test statistic in ANOVA tests has a single or doubly noncentral F distribution and the noncentral F distribution is applied to the calculation of the power functions of tests of general linear hypotheses. In this paper. the evaluation of the cumulative function of the single noncentral F distribution is applied to the neural network theory. The neural network consists of the multi-layer perceptron structure and learning process has the algorithm of the backpropagation. Numerical comparisons are made between the results obtained by neural network theory and the Patnaik's values.

The occurrence of soil erosions in Korea is mostly driven by flowing water which has a close relationship with rainfalls. The soil eroded by rainfalls flows into and deposits in the river and it polluted the water resources and making the rivers become difficult to be managed. Recently, the frequency of heavy rainfall events that are more than 30 mm/hr has been increasing in Korea due to the influence of climate change, which creating a favourable condition for the occurrence of soil erosion within a short time. In this study, we proposed a method to estimate the distribution of rainfall intensity and to calculate the energy produced by a single rainfall event using the cumulative distribution function that take into account of the physical characteristics of rainfall. The raindrops kinetic energy estimated by the proposed method are compared with the measured data from the previous studies and it is noticed that the raindrops kinetic energy estimated by the rainfall intensity variation is very similar to the results concluded from the previous studies. In order to develop an equation for estimating rainfall kinetic energy, rainfall particle size data measured at a rainfall intensity of 0.254~152.4 mm/hr were used. The rainfall kinetic energy estimated by applying the cumulative distribution function tended to increase in the form of a power function in the relation of rainfall intensity. Based on the equation obtained from this relationship, the rainfall kinetic energy of 1~80 mm/hr rainfall intensity was estimated to be $0.03{\sim}48.26Jm^{-2}mm^{-1}$. Based on the relationship between rainfall intensity and rainfall energy, rainfall kinetic energy equation is proposed as a power function form and it is expected that it can be used in the design of short-term operated facility such as the sizing of sedimentation basin that requires prediction of soil loss by a single rainfall event.
The Neyman-Scott Rectangular Pulse (NSRP) model is used to model the hourly rainfall series. This model uses a modest number of parameters to represent the rainfall processes and underlying physical phenomena such as the arrival of a storm or rain cells. In this paper, we proposed approximated likelihood function for the NSRP model and applied the proposed method to precipitation data in Seoul.

This paper describes a probabilistic remaining life assessment program for the creep crack growth. The probabilistic life assessment program is developed to increase the reliability of life assessment. The probabilistic life assessment involves some uncertainties, such as, initial crack size, material properties, and loading condition, and a triangle distribution function is used for random variable generation. The resulting information provides the engineer with an assessment of the probability of structural failure as a function of operating time given the uncertainties in the input data. This study forms basis of the probabilistic life assessment technique and will be extended to other damage mechanisms.
