The Analysis of the Type and Characteristics of Playable Furniture for Preschool Children (미취학 아동의 놀이가구 유형 및 특성 분석)

  • The interest and expenditure for children is increasing than in the past because the number of nuclear family is growing, the children's space is configured independently in most homes from infancy, therefore, the market of children's furniture is expanding in spite of the reduction in the population of children. There are not many products considering age, gender, and play behavior in children's furniture market in Korea. The bed, desk, chair, and closet for children under 2 years hold a large majority of children's furniture, there are not a lot of preschool children's furniture for the children aged 4 to 7. As the children aged 4 to 7 experience physical, emotional, and cognitive growth at the same time, the space configuration and furniture choice for these children is educationally very important. Therefore, in this study, we present the importance and necessity of playable furniture to promote the physical, social, emotional, linguistic, and cognitive development of the children aged 4 to 7 among preschool children. We found the concept and basic condition of playable furniture to collect the base data for developing playable furniture and provided the basic data for the development of an ideal playable furniture by comparing and analyzing the cases of 157 items of 14 domestic playable furniture companies and 365 items of 30 overseas in aspect of play functions, forms, materials and colors.

  • 어린이 도서관은 일상생활 가까이에서 지역주민에게 지식정보 서비스를 제공할 뿐 아니라 공공도서관과의 연계를 통해 우리나라 전체 도서관 서비스의 수준을 발전시키고자 하는 생활 친화적 문화기반 시설인 소규모 도서관(혹은 문고)시설이다. 즉 어린이 도서관은 접근성을 가장 큰 장점으로 하여 누구나 쉽고 편리하게 이용할 수 있는 고객중심의 공공도서관 서비스라고 할 수 있다. 어린이 도서관의 주 이용고객은 어린이와 주부로서 최근 이들이 함께 도서관을 이용하는 빈도가 증가하면서 어린이 도서관은 단순히 책을 빌리고 공부를 하는 장소에서 나아가 가족단위의 여가활동이 가능한 문화적 공간으로 변모하여가고 있다. 어린이 도서관은 기본적으로 책을 읽는 조용한 공간이지만 주 이용자가 6세 미만의 유아와 초등학교 저학년 어린이이기에 독서행위와 더불어 또래 친구들과의 친교행위. 부모님과의 정서적 유대감 형성행위, 소규모 근육활동과 같은 놀이행위가 병행된다. 또 어린이 도서관에서 사용되어지는 정형적인 모듈의 서가를 비롯한 입식. 좌식 테이블과 의자들은 소수의 디자이너에 의해 만들어진 것이지만 그것을 이용하는 다수의 어린이들은 디자이너의 의도와 방법에 따라 가구를 사용하는 것 외에도 환경적 컨텍스트에 맞추어 가구의 새로운 쓰임을 발견하며 훨씬 더 다채로운 방법으로 가구를 사용하고 있다. 따라서 본 연구의 목적은 독서 및 놀이 행위 시 아동-부모의 상호작용 방법에 기반하여 아동의 가구사용방법(Way of Seat)을 알아보고 이를 바탕으로 어린이의 행태정보를 모델링하여 가구를 사용하는 어린이의 다양한 행위 이면에 내재된 요구를 파악하는데 있다. 가구를 사용하는 어린이의 다양한 행태 이면에 내재한 어린이만의 특성과 요구를 알아보기 위해서는 먼저 어린이 도서관이라는 특수한 물리적 환경요인 및 사용자 컨텍스트(Context)에 대한 이해가 선행되어야 한다. 이를 위해 기반조사 및 어린이 도서관 방문을 통한 정황조사(Contextual Inquiry)를 실시하였다. 이를 통해 6세 미만의 유아와 초등학생의 가구사용방법(Way of Seat)과 독서 및 놀이 행위 시 행태를 관찰하여 Photo Based Research를 바탕으로 어린이의 행태정보를 모델링 하였다.

A Study on the Type of Playable Furniture for Emotional Development of Preschool Children (미취학 아동의 감성 발달을 위한 연령별 놀이가구 유형에 관한 연구)

  • Nowadays the preschool children spend much of the day playing indoors. Therefore, it needs the indoor environment that helps a variety of fun activities and physical development, and it requires the space configuration and playable furniture considering the emotional development for mental health. However, the furniture for fast growing preschoolers has not various types because the domestic furniture market for children is mostly baby beds and the furniture for the education of children. Therefore, this study presents the concepts and types of the playable furniture reflecting emotional design for preschool children's healthy emotion and suggests the most appropriate type of playable furniture considering play behavior by age. In this study, we investigated the physical, cognitive, social, emotional and linguistic development characteristics and play behavior of preschoolers, and derived the right type of playground equipment and furniture, and examined the types of playable furniture to help the emotional development. We derived the items to be checked for developing the playable furniture by age for emotional development, and classified preschoolers' playable furniture into the use of learning, relaxation and storage, and suggested its basic type focusing on the cases of various playable furniture developed at home and abroad. As a result, the playable furniture was divided into three types. The first is the self-play type making possible self amusement, the second is module built-up-type that consists of furniture and modules or units and creates various patterns and can be modified through the self-assembly and disassembly, and the third is IT game type grafting IT skills and a variety of electronic games to furniture. We sorted these types into three classes (1-3 years old, 4-5, 6-7) according to age and presented the type of play for each age, the play element and representative image that can be introduced to this furniture. In this study, we provided the basic design types of age-specific emotional playable furniture by analyzing these results.

  • 어린이 가구는 어른 가구의 축소가 아닌 새로운 제품 분야이다. 이미 많은 업체에서 어린이 가구를 출시하는데 대체적으로 안전성을 이유로 고가의 제품이다. 지금 사회의 가구 구성의 다양화로 인한 어린이가구가 한 제품의 분야가 되었기 때문이다. 이에 어린이 가구에 대한 안전성이 높아졌으며 실용성과 안전성을 최우선으로 하고 있다. 이는 어린이들이 가구를 놀이용으로 신체적 접촉을 하고 있기 때문이다. 가구의 특징으로 어린이들의 피부에 접촉이 잦고 가구의 재질에 따른 촉감 등에 반응할 수 있기 때문이다. 이는 어린이가 어린이가구에 부딪히는 느낌, 이용성, 재미와도 연결되어 감성을 키울 수 있다고 본다. 어린이들은 표현성이 미흡하기 때문에 어린이가구의 안전성에 보다 더 주의해야한다고 여긴다. 즉 어린이가구의 안전성을 추구는 실제적 구매욕구를 가지고 있는 소비자인 부모들의 인식에 변화가 필요하가다. 어린이 가구의 시장은 중국이나 동남아에서 제조되어 한국으로 들어오는 경우가 있다. 그러므로 안전성에 대한 인식을 위해 재질과 실용성을 가미한 어린이 가구가 필요하다.

A Study on the Infant Furniture as Infant Playing Behavior (놀이 형태에 따른 미취학 아동용 가구에 관한 연구)

  • The environment is very important to the human being, most of all, infant is sensitive to the environment because infant is on the way to the brought-up. The Furniture in living space is a medium to connect a house and dweller, and is intimately relate to the living environment. Therefore we have to consider the infant various behavior for the plan of infant furniture. But studies on the infant seems not to have concern of infant environment as a living. Specialty, the demands of the adults for space is up to express in living space, but that of infant is latent. Also the demands of infant is difficult for the adults to be understood. So the studies on the infant furniture through the Infant playing behavior have to be achieved for the proper infant cultural environment.

  • The major users of children's library are children and housewives. Recent increasing frequency of their visit to the library expands the function of it from the place where they borrow and read books further to the cultural space where each family unit can enjoy leisure activities. Though the children's library basically is a quiet place for reading books, peers' establishing friendship and emotional bond with the parents, and such plays as small scale muscular movements take place in addition to reading activities because the major users are infants under six or children in the lower grades in elementary school. Thus, in order to study the features and requirements that are inherent in the various behaviors of the children who use furniture, understanding of the particular factors in the physical environment of the children's library and the user context must precede. In reality, though the fixed form of the desks and chairs in the library was made by a small number of designers, a large number of children are using them in tremendously various ways beyond the ways that the designers had intended, adapting themselves to the environmental context. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to find out the children's using way of seats when they do reading and playing activities based on the way of interaction between children and parents, and, after modeling of the children's behavior data, to understand the demands inherent inside the various behaviors of children who use furniture.

  • Color is an important subject of interest for cognitive developmental stages of children and it also correlate to emotional and physical development. Children can acquire concept of color by 'play'. Color play can be experienced to children through diversity activity and theses activities contain creative craft art activity. The color-paly with art activity for kids can be called 'kids color-design play'. Recently, indoor playgrounds are rapidly grow-up because parent's concern degree that about play activity get higher. The indoor playground being enlargement and it contains various paly contents. Color-design play is also enacted animatedly in kids indoor playground. The great part of color-design plays are enacted through program that needs teaching. On the other hand, color-design play facility that children can play spontaneously is not composed sufficiently. Therefore this study aim at design proposal of 'Kids color-design playground apparatus' in indoor playground.

  • This study intends to analyze the importance of design on the basis of the children' emotion, by instancing the child-oriented furniture that contributes to the healthy growing and emotion-development of children. This means the reflection of the will trying to see the main point of design for the child-oriented furniture and it's possibility from another new standpoint. It will be understood how far the furniture influences the children and for that the furniture among others for the preschool children having playing & leaning functions is taken as an object of the study. The scope of study is the child-oriented furniture having playing & learning functions that has been presented for displaying as well as for a commercial use, since 2005. The attempt to find objective factors working positively for the emotion- & behavior development of children through seeking a new design of the child-oriented furniture for playing & learning is for emphasizing the importance of the emotional function, not only the primary function of furniture, at designing the child-oriented furniture. The combination between applications of the specialized material for child education & studies, therefore, has to be handled more importantly. The child-oriented furniture for playing & leaning that stimulates a healthy growing of child not only physically, also emotionally should be constantly and more deeply specialized on child education and design aspects.

A Study of 'Yokagura of Takachiho': A sacred Music and Dancing Performed in Takachiho, the Land of Japanese Myths (일본신화의 고장 다카치호(高千穗)의 요가구라(夜神樂))

  • A ritual ceremony accompanied by a song and dance is called as Kagura in Japan. The word Kagura is originally derived from Kamukura, which means the place where spirits reside. However, later it came to refer to the whole process of the ritual ceremony itself. Through the field studies, this paper examines Takachiho-kagura, helded in Takachiho, known as the village of myths, located in northern Miyazaki-ken in Japan. Kagura takes place all night through in each and every village in Takachiho and it normally runs from the end of November when the harvest season ends until early February the next year. One ordinary house is especially chosen for this ceremony, in which Kagura performs 33 repertoires. Takachiho-kagura is sometimes called as Yokagura, since the performance takes place over-night. A song and dance is performed by ordinary village people called hoshyadong, who inherited Takachiho-kagura. Currently, the ceremony is held in more than 20 villages and designated by the government as "Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property" in Japan. Takachiho-kagura follows the example of rituals held in Sada shrine in Izumo, which is now eastern Hiroshima-ken. It is the dance using a bell, a sword, a fan, which signify Norimono and is usually combined with mask-play called as Shinno. From the shrine of village, itwelcomes the gods who defense their village, called Ujikami and other 8 million gods, called Yaoyorozunokami, in Kagurayado, where Kagura of 33 repertoires is played in order. Kagura starts from dances for attendance of the gods, Hikomai, Daidono, Kamioroshi, performs dances of Amanoiwato, the gate of heaven's cave in Japanese myths, Dazikara, Uzume, Dotori, and continues dances for the old ghosts Shibahiki, Yatsubachi mixed with acrobatics. Finally, this performance ends with dances to send off the gods, Hinomae, Gurioroshi, Gumooroshi, until the dawn the next morning. This paper explores Takachiho-kagura from the perspective of folk performance with ethnography. These days, ecstasy and oracle do not happen in Takachiho-kagura. However, it kept the old form of folk performance as Kagura held in ordinary house. Especially, in Takachiho, remarkable venue of the Japanese myths, Takachiho-kagura is developed artistically. The first field study was held in Gokamura, Iwato-zone and Ashakabe, Mitai-zone between December 6th and December 12th 1997. Afterwards, the second field study was conducted in the area of Shiba and Ashakabe from December 17th until December 19th 1997 and from December 1st until December 10th 2000.

Design Development for the Ocean & Leasure Industry (해양레저산업 활성화를 위한 아이디어 상품 디자인개발 사례)

  • With the recent rapid growth in the number of people who enjoy marine and leisure activities in Korea, the marine leisure industry faces good opportunities for development. Korean brands are in between them. In this situation, new and innovative products related to an inflatable tube, which is one of the most popular marine leisure items, will help to increase sales of domestic companies and to pioneer a new market. Research methods are largely divided into 4: investigation, analysis & synthesis, development and evaluation. This paper introduces a "tube cushion" which is an inflatable tube covered by fabrics. It can be functioned at home 365 days a year as a cushion or a children's plaything. Tactile fabrics, neoprene and air-mesh, are used as the cover with a zipper, making it easy to open and close. Moreover, by putting together tubes and connecting them with snap fastener attached straps, the cushion can be transformed into a chair, a table, a tunnel, a train, and so on, serving as a creative plaything for children. With this paper, it is expected that new and innovative items differentiated from others, like this crossover tube cushion, will help to create a 'Blue Ocean' market for the marine leisure industry from the long-term perspective.
