Analysis of Failure Criterion for Combustion Pipe with Notch using Effective Distance (유효거리를 이용한 연소기관 노치부의 파손기준 해석)

  • In this study, the intrinsic static/dynamic fracture toughness of Al 7175=T74 is evaluated from the apparent static/ dynamic toughness of notched specimen, The critical average stress fracture model is suggested to establish the relationship to predict the intrinsic fracture toughness from the apparent fracture toughness of a notched specimen. The critical average stress fracture model is established using the relation between the notch root radius and the effective distance calculated by finite element analysis. Also, effective distance is applied to estimate the failure criterion for the combustion pipe with notch. It is conclude that the true fracture toughness can be estimated from test results of apparent fracture toughness measured by using a notched specimen. Effects of Specimen Thickness and Notch Shape on Fracture Mode Appearing in Drop Weight Tear Test (DWTT) Specimens of API X70 and X80 Linepipe Steels (API X70 및 X80 라인파이프강의 DWTT 시편 파괴 형태에 미치는 시편 두께와 노치 형태의 영향)

  • Effects of specimen thickness and notch shape on fracture mode appearing in drop weight tear test (DWTT) specimens of API X70 and X80 linepipe steels were investigated. Detailed microstructural analysis of fractured DWTT specimens showed that the fractures were initiated in normal cleavage mode near the specimen notch, and that some separations were observed at the center of the fracture surfaces. The Chevron-notch (CN) DWTT specimens had broader normal cleavage surfaces than the pressed-notch (PN) DWTT specimens. Larger inverse fracture surfaces appeared in the PN DWTT specimens because of the higher fracture initiation energy at the notch and the higher strain hardening in the hammer-impacted region. The number and length of separations were larger in the CN DWTT specimens than in the PN DWTT specimens, and increased with increasing specimen thickness due to the plane strain condition effect. As the test temperature decreased, the tendency to separations increased, but separations were not found when the cleavage fracture prevailed at very low temperatures. The DWTT test results, such as upper shelf energy and energy transition temperature, were discussed in relation with microstructures and fracture modes including cleavage fracture, shear fracture, inverse fracture, and separations.

A Study to Improve Bonding Strength with Notch in Strengthening Plate (노치를 이용한 보강재의 부착력 증가 방안에 관한 연구)

  • Recently, many strengthening methods are developed and used to rehabilitate existing structure. One of the popualr methods is the strengthening with steel plate. But steel plate have a defect that is a debondig at the end of the steel plate due to stress concentration. The objective of this paper is an experimental study for improving bonding properties of a strengthening plate. The two normally reinforced beams and ten strengthened beams steel plate, which has various notches were tested. The test results show that the notches of strengthening plate improve post-yield behavior significantly compared. It is proved that the notch in a strengthening plate increase of ulimate strength after the yield strength 9% more than ordinary strengthening method.

  • Microwave Photonic(MWP) filters capable of use a bandpass filter or a notch filter with large bandwidth have been proposed. 4-lines${\times}$2-bit fiber-optic delay lines with a unit time-delay difference of 50 ps were experimentally realized. By changing the time-delay difference and the coefficients of microwave-modulated optical signals, the bandpass and notch filters were implemented and characterized.

  • Many papers have shown limit loads of v-notched tension specimens in plane stress by the elastic-plastic finite element method. But they are always higher than the theoretical maximum loads. The present approach tries to find the reasons and formulates correction factor applicable to any notch shape using virtual work principle with triangular elements. The corrected limit loads are in good agreement with theoretical upper bound solutions and they are little influenced by mesh size and specimen length, which make the computing time save.

  • This paper reports on theoretical study of the compression process within balanced type vane pump for Electro-Hydraulic Power Steering(EHPS). Equations fo camring profiles are derived, then displacements, velocities, accelerations, and jerks are calculated. Vane side leakages, vane slit leakages, and rotor side leakages are considered and calculated. Numerical integration of flow equation is performed using 4th Runge-Kutta method. As a result of analysis, it is found that chamber pressure depends on rotational speeds, bulk modulus of fluid, notches, camring profiles, and positions of delivery port. Especially, the variation of notch area is the most important factor that prevents pressure from rapid rising.

  • This paper reports the first known free vibration data for thin rectangular plates with V-notches. The classical Ritz method is employed with two sets of admissible functions assumed for the transverse vibratory displacements. These sets include (1) mathematically complete algebraic-trigonometric polynomials which guarantee convergence to exact frequencies as sufficient terms are retained, and (2) corner functions which account for the bending moment singularities at the sharp reentrant corner of the Y-notch. Extensive convergence studies summarized herein confirm that the corner functions substantially enhance the convergence and accuracy of nondirectional frequencies for rectangular plates having the V-notch. In this paper, accurate frequencies and normalized contours of vibratory transverse displacement are presented for various notched plates, so that the effect of corner stress singularities may be understood.

  • The tensile tests for [0/90]s, [90/0]s, and $[0/{\pm}45/90]s$ laminate composite were accomplished with acoustic sensor and failure processes were recorded by a video camera in real time. Also SEM examinations for fracture and side surface were carried out. The purpose of study is estimation of the failure mechanism and the mechanical properties effected by lay-up orientation for CFRP laminate composite with the hole notch. From the results, mechanical properties were obtained and they are similar between two kinds of cross-ply orientation in CFRP laminate composites, but not on $[0/{\pm}45/90]s$. And accordings to increasing the load, accumulate AE count was increased, regardless of lay-up orientation. Futhermore, failure mechanism was described by a video monitoring and SEM.

  • A digital grid synchronization technique is needed for distributed generation system to make output current sinusoidal even if the grid voltage is distorted by harmonics. In this paper, a digital grid synchronization technique based on adaptive notch filter is proposed. The analysis of proposed technique is performed through the consideration of grid synchronization technique based on PLL and FLL, and the validity of the proposed method was confirmed by simulation results.

  • In this paper, the accurate end position control method of ultraprecision machine tool post using piezoelectric material as an micro positonong devics is presented. This method employs the classical PID feedback and uses an additional notch filter which eliminates the resonance characteristics of controlled plant. And the simple predictor is added to make use of the future value of desired input for better tracking performance. To show the feasibilty of proposed method, the PC-based experimental apparacy can be obtained. Using method, Al specimen of diameter 100mm was cut under practical machining condition to test the practicability of proposed method.
