In December 2014, the study analyzed the wage level of Long-term Care Facilities reported by the National Health Insurance Organization Database. From 2008 to 2014, 1,231.357 people in Korea were acquired qualification for care worker. This study tries to the wage of 1,221,085 care workers. We found out that 91.3% of all are women, and 41% out of care worker qualification were between 50-59 years old. And only 14.8% were employed as care workers. About 73.2% of the nursing care workers had less than 3 years of service at the current job, and their wages were 129.2 million won per month for Nursing Home and 6,421 won per hour for the home care center. In order to investigate care workers, it needs to distinguish between Nursing Home and home care center, and it was also confirmed that wage increases was not reached. In addition, we can question the effect of improvement allowance for better working condition, and suggest fundamental problems for care workers' wage and status.

This study was conducted with the purpose of suggesting alternatives for the efficient operation of senior day care facilities in 22 cities and counties in the Jeonnam region by analyzing the efficiency of senior day care facilities. The analysis data for the study used the National Health Insurance Corporation's long-term care insurance for the elderly (2022), the Input variables were the number of facilities, the number of workers, the number of affordable, and the number of senior long-term care insurance recipients and the Output variables were the the number of users. As a result of the analysis, CCR was most efficient in Goheung-gun, Gokseong-gun, Gwangyang-si, Boseong-gun, Yeongam-gun, and Jindo-gun, BCC was most efficient in Goheung-gun, Gokseong-gun, Gwangyang-si, Gurye-gun, Damyang-gun, Boseong-gun, and Jindo-gun, and SE was most efficient in that order: Jindo-gun, Gokseong-gun, and Gwangyang-si. It turned out to be a super efficient area. In the contribution analysis, the number of affordable and workers variables were found to be variables that had a large impact on efficiency contribution. In the improvement potential analysis, the number of facilities variable was found to be a variable that had a significant impact on efficiency. Therefore, for the efficient operation of senior day care facilities, we suggest adjusting supply and demand, such as the number of facilities and affordable, and suggest that training programs to strengthen the expertise of workers who contribute greatly are required.

The aim of this study is to structuralize a model of the factors determining the quality of nursing care perceived by the director or manager of a long-term care facilities (hospitalization of patients) using FSM(Fuzzy Structural Modeling), employed in structuralizing social systems. The results were as follows: first, quality in the top tier was shown to be connected with job commitment, commitment to the organization, work experience, care skills, knowledge about the elderly, training and education, which are factors in the middle tier; and second, the structure of the middle tier (job commitment, commitment to the organization, work experience, care skills, knowledge about the elderly, training and education) either showed a connection with the lower tier, which includes employment type, job satisfaction, leadership, relationship with users and workplace relationships, or showed a connection among the factors within. These results confirmed the following: first, care skills and knowledge about the elderly, which demonstrate the job expertise of caregivers, showed a connection with service quality based on work experience; second, job commitment in the middle tier was observed to affect various factors in the same tier such as care skills, knowledge about the elderly, training and education amongst others, and it was determined that it is an important determining factor in service quality. Lastly, a meaningful result was shown in relation to leadership. The leadership skills of the director of the facilities had a connection with the care caregivers' commitment to the organization, which had a connection with service quality. This structure showed the kind of role the director must play in order to improve service quality.
This study aims to analyze whether there are mediating effects of emotional labor on the relationship between job characteristics of elderly caregivers and their job satisfaction and burnouts. The sample was consisted of 299 elderly caregivers working for the long-term elderly care centers from Seoul and Kyunggi areas. Both hierarchical multiple regression analysis and mediated regression analysis are used for statistical analysis. The findings from the study are as follow. First, the job characteristics of elderly caregivers have significant effects on their job satisfaction, burnouts, and emotional labor levels after controlling for background variables. Second, emotional labor has a significant effect on burnout, but it has no effect on job satisfaction. Third, there are mediating effects of emotional labor on the relationship between job characteristics of elderly caregivers and their job satisfaction/burnouts. These results suggest that enhanced supervision and stress management education as well as job improvement for elderly caregivers be carried out for the improvement of both their job satisfaction and burnouts. Furthermore, the improvement of the working conditions of elderly caregivers should be paid attention by the government as well as individual elderly care centers.
Purpose: This study was aimed to analyze how social workers understand the rights for elderly patient and family caregiver to make end-of-life (EOL) care decisions and their roles the decision making process. Methods: The study employed a quantitative research method of collecting data from a structured questionnaire that was filled out by 334 social workers at long-term care facilities. Data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, mean differences, correlation between variables, using SPSS 20.0 program. Results: The mean score for the understanding the rights to an EOL care decision was $3.46{\pm}0.69$ and of their own roles $3.48{\pm}0.84$. The level of understanding significantly differed by social workers' experience of assisting a process to make an EOL care decision such as advance directives and life sustaining treatment, work experience, and the number of beds. Positive correlation was observed between the level of understanding of the rights for EOL care decisions and of social workers' roles (Pearson r=0.329, P<0.001). Conclusion: This study proposes development of an education program for social workers and devising standards for the EOL care decision making process to protect elderly patients, family caregivers as well as social workers in a long term care facility.
The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of the possibility of job-related risk, emotional labor, and emotional leadership on the job turnover intention of caregivers working at the long-term care facilities in Korea. For the study, survey data of 434 caregivers at senior nursing homes were collected and analyzed using hierarchical multiple regression method. The results showed that high level of caregivers'perception of both the possibility of management risk and employee risk led to increased turnover intention. On the other hand, perception of the possibility of social-disaster risk did not give significant impact on turnover intention. Although the perception of the possibility of service user risk gave statistically significant effect on the turnover intention, the direction was the opposite to the one set at the research hypothesis. Frequent camouflage behavior("surface acting") of caregivers, which is the kind of emotional labor led to increased turnover intention. However, caregivers'behavior consistent with their inner warm heart("deep acting") did not lead to a statistically significant result. Lastly, the more caregivers perceive their superiors'emotionally supportive leadership, the lower possibility of turnover intention. Based on the above result, the researchers suggested several intervention methods in order to prevent turnover of caregivers and improve service quality of long-term care institutions.
By studying the status of oral health provided by caregivers working in care facilities in accordance with their oral health awareness and knowledge, this thesis sought to find a plan of development to enhance the oral health for the elderly in care facilities. A survey was carried out from the 16th of August to the 2nd of September 2016, with 200 care givers as the subjects, working in 14 long-term care facilities for elderly, located in the city of D. Frequency analysis and independent sample t-test were conducted of the collected data, using SPSS 18.0. The results of the study were as follows; for gender, female was 91.5% which was higher than that of male, and married for marital status, 50 for age, highschool for education, christian for religion were shown to be the highest. The highest number of people for daily care was 6~7. In terms of status for providing oral health and oral health awareness of caregivers, the existence of oral hygiene guideline was statistically meaningful, and in terms of the status of oral health provided and oral health knowledge, there were notable differences in storage of dentures, and usage of mouthwash(p<.05).
The study analyzes the characteristics, work stress, satisfaction and attitudes toward dementia of social care work force for dependent elders in Korea. Data were from 502 staffs including social workers, nurses, and direct care workers from 45 diverse type of nursing facilities in Busan and Daegu area. The results of the analysis indicate that they are low paid and overloaded in general. The respondents espoused highly hopeful and person-centered attitudes toward dementia and the elderly, while they showed low level of satisfaction related to work. The stress levels were higher in sub scales concerning care tasks and physical environments in work places. In addition, the results of multiple regression denote that those have higher level of satisfaction who are nurses, have no intension to quit, have more experiences of work education, and working in facilities with more frail elders. Stresses were closely related to higher level of education and the intension to quit. Person centered attitude was more often reported by those who have more elderly clients to take care of and are working in facilities with more elders who are demented and over 80. In particular, the association was consistent between higher level of job satisfaction and the person centered attitude. Several practical suggestions linked to the analysis were made including improving the welfare for staffs working in nursing facilities and providing continuous professional training and education for them particularly on person-centered care. In addition, it was emphasized to raise the morale of social care work force considering the rapidly increasing need of long term care and the important influence that care work force has on older persons' quality of life from now on.
The purpose of this research is to analyze the overall problems at the moment of October 2008, and then to find the improvements of home-help services of the Long-Term Care Insurance(LTCI), which has been revealed many problems since it was released in July 2008. The research uses the literature survey which analyzes 2nd-hand materials studied by other people already, and survey research was executed from active social workers in the area of LTCI. Based on the policy analysis framework of Gilbert and Specht, all the data are analyzed in the scopes of client·benefit(service)·finance·transferring system. This research has found the problems in each scope of home-help services of the LTCI. Firstly, the client system has some problems in mismatching between registered and service clients, estimating client number, and judging service levels. Secondly, the service system reveals deficiency in professionality of social workers, service quality lowering by loose qualification criteria on workers, non-reasonable limitation of service time available, and the same fare system applied to visiting-help service in spite of different levels. Thirdly, in financing system, clients need to pay additional money to get extra services such as meal, hair cutting, bathing etc., due to government financial support stopped, some organizations have to reduce services and replace full-time workers to part-time ones, which makes the service quality worse. Lastly, in the transferring system, the management system for service quality is not well prepared. There are too much competion because of allowing too many home-help service organizations and care worker academies. The suggestions that this research has found to improve the policy are as follows. ① It is desirable to make the registered clients the service ones as many as possible in the long term perspective. ② The LTCI organization requires more workers and higher professionality. ③ Many elderly people who are not eligible now require connection system to be more served. ④ Management system and service manual for care worker are to be developed. ⑤ Laws related to the service contents and process should be modified, the proportion of client charge needs to adjust. ⑥ Home-help service organization licensed by the LTCI needs to be financially supported publicly. ⑦ Monitoring system to home-help service organization needs to be strengthened. ⑧ Evaluation tools to home-help service organization and workers is required. ⑨ Specification to open the home-help service organization needs to be more strict.
This study examined the factors affecting family caregiver's preference for utilization of community care services among those who are caring for 65+ elderly parents, and aimed to show how social eldercare services would be settled in Korea. Help-seeking behavior model developed by Anderson and Newman(1973) was used to analyze the factors affecting their preference for utilizing the community care service among 283 family caregivers. Frequency, Chi-square, and Multinominal logistic analysis on SAS 6.12 was used. According to the results, about 90% of the family caregivers have preference for community and institute care services. In community care service, about a half comprise the preference with charge while the other without charge. However, about 90% of those for institute care service show their willingness to pay for the service. Also, a majority of caregivers like to rely on social eldercare service, rather than family as exclusively responsible, against long-term care for their elderly parents. Multinominal analysis demonstrates that use versus nonuse of community care services is primarily affected by predisposing factors(including age, carer-caree closeness, and familism) and need factors (including economic or psychological burden of eldercare, and additional role for family care). Enabling factors, such as family income level, economic support from other family members and siblings, and supportive care-helpers, are mainly associated with the preferences of free versus charge in service use. These findings provide some implications and suggestions for the development of social eldercare services in our aging society.
