  • The purpose of this study is to fond out the characteristics of color perception and preferred color scheme of the aged who becomes color weak due to yellowed eye sight. For this, this study was composed of two steps. First, an experimental simulation on aged vision using Spectrophotometer(CM-2600d, Minolta) attached Y-2 filter as a quasi lenses of the aged eye. The color data of 120 color chips of the aged vision was measured and analyzed to grasp the characteristics of color perception of the age. Then, a questionnaire survey was carried out with color chips and 8 interior color schemes. They participated in a questionnaire survey of the level of identification among the color chips of 11 tones of R, G, PB, as well as a survey of the preference color schemes. The result of this study are as follow; 1) The range of color perception on hue narrowed into YR, Y, GY, G. Especially, the aged have failed perception of B${\cdot}$PB${\cdot}$P${\cdot}$RP(short wave length of light) by yellowed eye sight. 2) The level of identification among the color chips of 11 tones of R,G,PB are different by each color. But Very Pale, Pale, Strong, Vivid are fractionated similarly in almost color. 3) In the preference of interior color scheme of the aged, preference color harmony scheme Is the complementary color scheme that is easy for identification, rather than analogous color scheme. The preferred dominant color is warm color rather than cool color.

  • This study aims to propose color affective model of indoor space by evaluating subjects' physiological responses according to the types of behavioral and affective system. 99 subjects(44 females, 55 males) in their 20s, who had no disorders in visual perception, participated in the experiment. To categorize the subjects based on behavioral and affective system, BAS/BIS scale and Affective scale were used. Color stimuli were composed of five basic colors and three tones: vivid, pale and dull tone of R, Y, G, B, P. For physiological experiment, right and left prefrontal alpha activity was measured to analyze prefrontal EEG asymmetry. Participants were exposed to fifteen color stimuli for 20 seconds each other under the positive and negative emotional condition in a research room with the natural light blocked. The results and conclusion of this study are as follows. Along with factors of behavioral and affective system, cluster analysis was carried out and four types were classified. Type A had high BAS sensitivity, especially high 'drive' trait, and showed high levels of 'anxiety' and 'anger'. Type B had low BAS sensitivity, especially low 'fun seeking' and low 'drive' trait, and showed low levels of 'anxiety' as well as low levels of 'happiness'. Type C had low BIS sensitivity and showed high levels of 'happiness' and low levels of 'sadness'. Type D had high BIS sensitivity and showed high levels of 'lethargy' and 'sadness'. As a result of EEG signal analysis of color stimuli, Type B, Type C, and Type D showed significant differences in prefrontal alpha asymmetry under the negative emotional stimuli. Type B showed more left prefrontal activation in the spaces with pale R and dull G. Type C showed more left prefrontal activation in the spaces with vivid Y and B, pale R, and dull R, G, P. Type D showed more left prefrontal activation in the spaces with vivid Y and P, pale R, Y, P, and dull R, Y, G, B, P. The group of high BAS sensitivity was not influenced by color stimuli under the emotional conditions, whereas the group of high BIS sensitivity was affected by color stimuli under the negative emotional conditions. They showed left prefrontal activation when they were exposed the spaces with vivid, pale, dull tones of Y and P wall.

  • The research purposes at obtaining fundamental data needed for making a living environment appropriate to the visual perception of the oldest by analyzing researches related with the visual perception of the oldest among papers of domestic journals. This research examined a total of 1,240 papers including s::n papers of DBPIA dealt with the research of the oldest, 40 papers concerning the research of visual perception, and 663 papers published in the journal of the Korean Gerontological Society, analyzing contents related with the visual perception of the oldest (the aged, the oldest, color, illumination, sight, visual perception). The result of the research shows that while research related with the oldest has increased, research concerning the visual perception of the oldest has lacked in its contents. Thus, the research suggests the necessity of various researches to grasp characteristics of the visual perception of the oldest. Also, it proposes to develop tools that can help the oldest independently live, along with the necessity of designs appropriate to their living environment.

  • With the progress of the aging society into the aged society, the planning of senior housing is inevitably required. Among the factors of planning, color appeals to people's vision which mostly accepts information about the environment, so age-related color vision changes should be studied. The purpose of the study is to find out characteristics of color perception focused on yellow and blue with advancing of the yellowed eye sight in the old age. The findings are as follows. (1) Regardless of gender, losses of color perception in sensitivity is occurred as aging is proceeded. But the rate of reduction is mitigated compared with the ex-research in Japan because of the promotion of physical health. (2) Human lens coloration was not common until 85 years old and the hue of yellow and red was easily perceived by the older subjects. (3) Yellow is more preferred to other colors by the elderly and accuracy of yellow-color perception is higher than that of blue-color. (4) It is especially hard for the elderly to perceive the difference between pure blue and mixture of blue-green. Therefore blue and blue-green should not be adopted simultaneously in senior housing environment. Except for the space which specially requires carefulness, various color preferred by the elderly should be applied to the senior housing environment to satisfy their psychological condition and provide the vitality of life.
