The subjects were collected from 176 nursing providers in 5 Geriatric hospitals located in D, S, and C provinces. Collected data were analyzed by means, standard deviation, t-test, ANOVA, pearson correlation, and multiple regression analysis using spss 22.0. The result showed that good death awareness was 3.15 out of 4 points, spiritual well-being was 4.11 out of 6 points, and 4.15 out of 5 points for elderly nursing performance. There was a positive correlation between the elderly care performance and good death awareness (r=.19, p=.011) and spiritual well-being (r=.23, p=.002). The factors affecting the performance of elderly nursing were good death perception(${\beta}=.18$, p=.015) and spiritual well-being(${\beta}=.18$, p=.013). The 220 subjects were nursing staff's who worked in geriatric hospitals located in G city and N city. For data analysis, The descriptive statistic was used to analyze the subjects' general characteristics, and dysphagia related characteristics, knowledge, attitude and nursing performance degree. For the differences of dysphagia related knowledge, attitude and nursing performance according to the subjects' general characteristics, t-test and ANOVA were used. The correlation of the subjects' knowledge, attitude and nursing performance degree was analyzed with Pearson's correlation coefficient. The score of the subjects' dysphagia related knowledge was average 14.07±2.94, the subjects' dysphagia related attitude was average 3.59±0.39, the subjects' dysphagia nursing performance was 3.10±0.43. dysphagia nursing performance had a significantly positive correlation with dysphagia related knowledge(r=0.295, p=.000) and dysphagia related attitude(r=0.392, p=.000). The above result of the study indicated positive attitude based on accurate knowledge is needed for nursing staff's in geriatric hospitals to improve nursing performance for dysphagia. When education programs for dysphagia are planned in geriatric hospitals, it is necessary to consider knowledge level and attitude simultaneously.

  • The study was aimed to identify the educational needs for gerontological nursing using the nursing diagnosis classification of hospital nurses. A cross-sectional survey was conducted on 245 nurses who had experience caring for older patients within 1-year at two nurse web cafes. As a result of the study, 43 nursing diagnoses were classified into 6 areas: acute care, daily life care, education and counseling, environment and resource management, health promotion, and geriatric disease management. Nursing educational needs differed according to the age, sex, marital status, education level, size of the hospital, and working experience of the nurse. In order to effectively perform nursing care for the elderly and geriatric patients, it may be necessary to investigate the needs of continuous education and develop a detailed education program.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to figure out the effect of nurse staffing in nursing home on the quality of care and quality of life of the residents, using Castle & Engberg's conceptual framework. Methods: A total of 31 studies published between 1996 and 2021 were selected from 6 databases, searched for keyword such as "Nurse staffing", "Nursing staff", "Outcome", "Quality of care", "Quality of life", "residents outcomes", "nursing home", "long-term care". By using Castle & Engberg's conceptual framework, systematic review was conducted. Results: More time provided by nursing staff, high level of licensed nurse staffing, good relationship between nursing staff and residents, and generous supervision system have a positive effect on resident outcomes. Conclusion: Establishing regulatory strategies of having mandatory Registered Nurse is needed because nurse staffing in nursing homes was related to resident outcomes. In addition, it is necessary to conduct further research about quality of life beyond quality of care for residents.

  • Purpose: This study reviewed the innovative educational strategies that have been implemented successfully in US baccalaureate nursing education programs to facilitate appropriate attitudes about caring for older adults. Methods: The data were collected through a search of PubMed and CINAHL using the key words, gerontological or geriatric, attitudes about aging or older people, baccalaureate or undergraduate nursing education or curriculum. Results: The successful strategies are categorized as follows: 1) a multidisciplinary approach integrating aging issues and gerontological contents into diverse nursing courses, 2) active participation of community-dwelling healthy older individuals as an educational mentor, 3) use of audiovisual materials to investigate the misconceptions and attitudes about aging, and 4) discussion through critical thinking and self-reflection toward aging. Implications: For the interdisciplinary approach within nursing courses, it is essential to derive the key contents for gerontological nursing applicable to integration into diverse nursing courses. In addition, it is necessary to provide administrative support for implementing innovative strategies and constructing consistent partnerships with the community for active participation of the elderly as a mentor. Lastly, recognizing the significance of educational strategies for enhancing desirable attitudes toward gerontological nursing and supporting the development of educational capability of a faculty are key issues.
