As one of reinforcing methods for soft roadbed, the problems that mud-pumping and settlement occurred by soft roadbed, were investigated, evaluated and analyzed through installing relatively economical and efficient geosynthetics on the selected track-bed for testing. Mock-heang to Dong-ryang on the filed resting sections in the Chung-buk lines were selected as investigating the state of track and prepared field after selecting three of 1,700 spots which often make mud-pumping and requiting maintenance for that. Long curved line radiuses(R) of Mock-heang to Dong-ryang are 500m that were installed with 4 types of geosynthetics layers and one ballast layer. Installed testing cross-section is 200m totally with 40 m between places. Strength or prepared roadbed was measured to investigate the state of roadbed and track with constructing(installing) field testing sections and physical properties of roadbed soils were evaluated and analyzed. Also, mud-pumping, settlement of elastic or plastic sleeper, failure or track, wheel-loads, transverse and earth pressures were measured after installing field testing sections.
The asphalt-concrete trackbed system has many advantages in terms of maintenance and economics. However, methods to investigate practical use corresponding to the development of the trackbed system must be developed. The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the dynamic performance of the asphalt system in accordance with both the elastic and viscoelastic material characteristics and design thickness of the asphalt trackbed. More specifically, in order to reduce the uncertainty error of the Finite Element(FE) model, a three-dimensional full scale FE model was developed and then the infinite foundation model was considered. Finally, to compare the condition of viscoelastic materials, performance evaluation of the asphalt-concrete trackbed system was used to deal with the dynamic amplification factors; numerical results using isotropic-elastic materials in the FE analysis are presented.
Stability analysis was conducted to analyze the application of pile-supported embankment to concrete slab track on the soft ground in Korea. Pile efficiency and tension of geosynthetics in accordance with the hight of embankment and the depth of soft soil were carried out by theoretical and numerical methods. Theoretical method predicted more conservatively than the numerical method for all the cases presented herein. The settlement stability is satisfied to allowable criteria of high speed railway in Korea. The pile-supported embankment has great potential for application to soft ground condition.

In railroad operation, turnout is the device designed to provide very critical functions of moving the train to the neighboring rail. It's the only movable section among the rail and track equipment, which has a complicated structure and as rapid movement between the wheel and rail during operation is unavoidable, the safety and the vibration caused by the impact load of the passing train becomes always the major concern. Response to rail vibration tends to vary depending on physical properties of the rail, rail base and the ground, making it difficult to estimate the quantitative outcome through the measurement. Thus, experimental or empirical approach, rather than an analytic method, has been more commonly employed to deal with the ground vibration. To predict the vibration of the turnout, an experimental value and the measured values are applied in parallel to the factors with a high degree of uncertainty. This study hence was intended to compare and analyze the vibration values measured at the crossing part of manganese turnout by type of train and turnout and distance, as well as predict the intensity of vibration generated at the crossing part of manganese turnout when tilting train accelerates.
The differential settlement may be generated by the variation of stresses caused by the soft ground or ground water. The cracks are usually created when the structures are leaned or deformed due to the differential settlement. A grouting method has been mainly used till now to improve the bearing capacity of the ground when the foundation of the structure is deformed by differential settlements. However, when this method is used, it takes too long time to obtain the required strength and the period of the reinforcement effect is not long enough. The advantage of GPCON injection method is to have good mechanical properties and durability, and easy construction. In addition, the GPCON method rapidly fills up the void in soils by injecting some materials into underground and also obtain the increase of bearing and shearing forces due to the expansion. In this paper the restoration capability of the foundation settlement of railway and subway subjected to cyclic loading is analytically and experimentally evaluated using the high density rapidly expansion GPCON in order to investigate the types of deformations and vibrational characteristics.
In this paper, it was compared the characteristics of the stress and settlement that occur from a track on the ground using a model test and has quantitatively analyzed the difference based on stress path and effect of the rotation of principal stress. Under identical roadbed conditions, the settlement generated by moving wheel loads were found to be 6 times and 3 times larger than that from static loads and cyclic loads, respectively. The deviator stress affecting shear deformation and the length of stress path generated by moving loads were twofold or greater increase than those by static loads. Furthermore, the stress path generated by moving loads was approached more closely to Mohr-Coulomb failure criteria compared to that by static loads. Also, it was found that ballasted track was occurred about 60% of maximum stress at $40^{\circ}$ of the rotation angle of principal stress and was affected with rotation of principal stress with moving wheel loading condition.
Since the vibration induced by a train is transferred directly to a station via a roadbed structure, the elevated station is particularly vulnerable to noise and vibration. To establish more appropriate measures to reduce vibration, the structural behavior and damping characteristics depending on the structural type and the composition of a elevated station should be identified, because the noise inside the station is mainly structure borne noise by the vibration of a station structure. In this paper, the vibration characteristic changes depending on mechanical connection types between an elevated station and a connected bridge are analyzed. The finite element model for Daecheon Station is constructed for the purpose of this study, and the analysis is performed using ABAQUS. The analyses are conducted for with and without bridge connections, and for the bridge connections, ramen and bearing types are considered in the analysis.

An application of concrete track is being activity processed for the construction of Korean railroad. The concrete track has an advantage to decrease the maintenance fee, but is very difficult to control the settlement of ground and embankment consisting of substructure of concrete track below the allowable settlement level. This is the reason why the measurement and evaluation of both ground and embankment settlement before the installation of the concrete track is very important. One ground, a lower subgrade, and five surface settlements are measured to understand the settlement behavior of ground and embankment settlement. The period to measure settlements was more than 1 year after the completion of embankment. In this test site, ground settlement was over during the construction of embankment, but the embankment settlement are being continuously proceeded after the completion of embankment. The settlement velocity gradually is slowing down as time goes by. This paper also analysed the reasons of abrupt settlement increase and concluded that the rainfall was one of the important reason to increase settlement rate.
Many railway-advanced countries are using the various types of track to reduce the track maintenance and repair cost according to the improvement of velocity. It spends on much maintenance and repair cost for ballast track due to abrasion of ballast, track irregularity and unisotropical ballast-support stiffness. The ballast track on railway bridge is accelerating the deterioration of ballast according to interaction of railway bridge and track. As continuing the deterioration, it is caused dynamic loads. Due to these effects, it increases negative loads of track and bridge. However, when designing the railway bridge, the effect of ballast track was applicate only dead load, so elastic behavior effect of ballast track is not influenced. Therefore, this paper presumes the stiffness of ballast track on railway bridge considering dynamic behavior of railway bridge, it was evaluated that effect on dynamic behaviors of railway bridge according to ballast track stiffness.

The vehicle-track structure dynamic interaction analysis problem can be treated as sliding contact problem, and it is assumed that vehicle run at a constant speed over a rail modeled as beam elements. Unfortunately, Salome-Meca can not satisfy the compatibility condition for the beam master elements, which are consist of the elements with higher order polynomial shape function, in sliding contact problem. In this study, it is suggested to use more finer beam master element mesh as the remedy for incompatibility in sliding contact problem, and the accuracy of the solution is secured. For this, the effect of beam element mesh refinement consisting runway is analysed through simple examples, and the applicability to the dynamic interaction analysis is evaluated. Finally, the dynamic interaction analysis of railway skewed culvert transition problem is carried out to evaluate the effect of supporting stiffness due to backfill pattern changes and track irregularity due to uneven subgrade settlement.
