Low frequency sound absorption improvement in refrigerator using multi perforated plate (다공판을 활용한 냉장고 저주파 흡음개선)

  • In this study, the multi perforated plate is used to reduce the compressor noise in the low frequency band inside the refrigerator machine room. To predict the sound absorption results, the impedance of the sound absorption material is measured. Using the measured impedance results, it is confirmed that the results used for FEM analysis is almost similar to the experimental values. The sound-absorbing structure that can operate in the target frequency band inside the refrigerator machine room is designed by controlling the hole diameter and arrangement in the perforated plate. The effect of reducing noise in the low frequency band is confirmed by applying perforated plate-based sound absorbing structures to the machine room.

  • In this work, the mechanism of structure-borne noise resulting from vibration of a compressor for a refrigerator is experimentally analyzed and an effective method is proposed to reduce the noise. Firstly, the emission noise, when the compressor is turned on and off, is measured and analyzed to identify the generation mechanism of structure-borne noise. And the acceleration on the outer wall of the refrigerator is also analyzed to identify the distribution of vibration. Secondly, an effective design method to reduce the noise is suggested by using the finite element analysis and Taguchi method. Consequently an optimal design of the refrigerator, which has lower noise, is obtained and then its performance and validity are verified through the analysis and test.

Finite Element Modeling for rubber grommet to reduce vibration refrigerator (냉장고 진동 저감을 위한 그로멧의 유한요소모델링)

  • In this study, vibration analysis of a refrigerator was carried out to reduce vibration by considering grommet. When the refrigerator machine room is modeled by finite element method, spring elements are added to constructions of the FEmodel for each component and update. To design the grommet of refrigerator, FEmodel must have vibration characteristics of each components such as baseplate, pipe and compressor it self. The modal analyses are conducted to validate suggested approach when the components of machine room are assembled together. And, in this study, optimal design of grommet is conducted to avoid the resonance at the operating frequency of refrigerator. The experimental and FEM result of suggested design showed good agreement and are presented here.

A study on the vibroacoustic reduction of refrigerator by controlling the transmission path of comp_mount system (압축기_마운트 시스템의 진동 전달경로 제어를 통한 냉장고 진동음 저감)

  • In this paper, we present our method of controlling the transmission path of compressor vibration to reduce the vibroacoustic of refrigerator. Firstly, to reduce the vibroacoustic radiated from compressor _ mount system, main transmission path was found experimentally and applied partial contact to transmission path to minimize the transmissibility from compressor operation to base plate. In order to verify our method, we designed changing of the connection part between grommet and base plate. Through experiment with modified connection part, we certificate experimentally the noise reduction of refrigerator. Finally, we apply previous connection part to grommet inner shape to enhance the effect of the system. From experimental results, we make certain the possibility of noise reduction of refrigerator through this approach.

  • In this paper, a linear motor stroke controller using a phase lag filter and a single phase PWM inverter with a current controller has been implemented. In order to control the cooling capability of a refrigerator or an air conditioner in which linear compressors are applied, the piston speed should be controlled. The piston speed control can be obtained by adjusting the frequency or the stroke of linear motors. Generally, the frequency is fixed, for example, as 60Hz and the stroke is adjusted. The dynamic performance of linear compressors depends on how accurately the stroke or the piston position is controlled by the current applied. A linear motor piston position controller with a current control loop is proposed and verified via some simulation studies.

  • Noise radiated from refrigerator is mainly decided by compressor noise. If the compressor is silent then the refrigerator could be silent. But In some case this tendency is not true. Because there is uncertain relations between compressor noise and refrigerator noise. And the refrigerator noise is affected by the cycle-matching in the refrigerating system using compressor. In this research it was studied that the compressor noise which didn't affect some refrigerator models could affect other refrigerator models. The methods which could reduce the refrigerator noise was studied and ultimately the methods which could change the characteristics of compressor noise was presented.

A Study on the Applicability of a Scroll Type Compressor to Small Capacity Refrigerators (소형 냉장고에 대한 스크롤 압축기 적용성에 관한 연구)

  • To study the applicability of a scroll type compressor to small capacity refrigerators, a R600a scroll compressor with algebraic scroll wrap has been designed. Its size and performance have been compared to a reciprocating type of the same displacement volume. By employing scroll wrap based on algebraic curve, high compression ratio can be accomplished without increasing the wrap angle much so that compact scroll may be obtained. Compared to a reciprocating one, the designed scroll compressor has diameter and height reduced by about 50% and 80%, respectively. By numerical simulation, it has been estimated that the scroll compressor provides 38.6% more cooling capacity than reciprocating type with 8.9% more power consumption, resulting in 27.3% increase in COP for ASHRAE low back pressure condition. With increasing the operating pressure ratio from 9.5 to 15.3, the overall compressor efficiency of the scroll compressor decreases from 72.6% to 65.2%, while that of the reciprocating compressor increases from 55.7% to 59.8%.

  • Condition monitoring of the reciprocating compressor is important task. As a traditional method, health monitoring system of refrigerator depends on decision of a skilled person based on his experience. However, the skilled person cannot monitor all the compressors completely. If a sampled compressor is faulty, thousands of compressors manufactured at that place are regarded as faulty compressors. Therefore it is necessary to monitor all compressors in the production line. In the paper real time health monitoring system is developed based on high order time frequency method and artificial neural network. The system is installed in the mass production line. The result of the application has been very successful, and currently the system is working very well on the production line.
