Prediction of Adiabatic Capillary Tube Length of Heat Pump Using Carbon Dioxide (CO2 히트펌프용 단열 모세관 길이 예측에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, the prediction of adiabatic capillary tube of heat pump using carbon dioxide is investigated theoretically and experimentally to offer the basic design data for the operating parameters of this system. The operating parameters considered in this study include evaporation temperature, cooling pressure of gas cooler, mass flowrate, and the length and diameter of capillary tube. Based on study results of several researchers, the correlation predicting the length of capillary tube of $CO_2$ heat pump was proposed. And the experimental results of evaporation temperature, mass flowrate and cooling pressure in adiabatic capillary tube have an good agreement to those calculated from Eq. (3) within 0.63~10.9%. Therefore, the prediction calculating the length of adiabatic capillary tube of $CO_2$ heat pump was proposed at the given conditions such as cooling pressure, evaporation temperature and capillary tube diameter.

  • The purpose of this work is to optimize composition of mixture refrigerants used in the C3MR (Propane & Mixed Refrigerants) process by a statistical optimization technique. C3MR studied in this work is one of widely used commercial natural gas liquefaction processes with high efficiency. Process simulation was performed in a commercial process simulator and methane ($C_1$), ethane ($C_2$), propane ($C_3$), and nitrogen ($N_2$) were selected as mixed refrigerants. Using the process model, optimum composition of refrigerants mixture was determined via mixture design and central composite design to produce minimum energy consumption. As a result, it was confirmed that energy consumption is reduced down to 11.3% comparing to existing design. It was also compared with heat effectiveness through temperature profile of MCHE (main cryogenic heat exchanger).

  • The areas consisting of frost susceptible soils in cold regions, such as the Arctic area, have problems of frost heave and thaw settlement due to the seasonal air temperature changes and internal temperature of installed structures. Ground stabilization methods for preventing frost heave and thaw settlement of frost susceptible soils include trenching, backfilling and thermo-syphon. The thermo-syphon is the method in which refrigerant can control the ground temperature by transferring the ground temperature to atmosphere in the from of two-phase flow through the heat circulation of the internal refrigerant. This numerical study applied the function of these thermo-syphon as the boundary condition through user-subroutine coding inside ABAQUS and compared and analyzed the temperature results of laboratory experiments.

  • 압축기의 체적효율, 압축효율에 관련된 부분에 대해서만 검토를 하였으며, 이는 주로 실린더 내 외의 냉해의 압력, 온도 등의 변화과정과 관련이 있다. 압축기의 모델로는 그림 1과 같은 스카 치-요크(Scotch-Yoke)형의 소형 완전 밀폐형 왕복식 압축기를 사용하였다. 그리고 냉매는 R-1 2를 사용하였다.

Heat Transfer Characteristics in the Evaporator of a Soft Ice Cream Maker (소프트 아이스크림 제조기 증발기의 전열 특성)

  • Soft icecream is made by scraping an ice formed on the inside of the cylindrical evaporator, where R-404A is evaporating in the annulus. The heat transfer characteristics of the refrigerant evaporation and those during icecream formation were experimentally investigated. Results show that the refrigerant-side heat transfer coefficients are highly dependent on the location in the evaporator due to the complex annulus configuration. The heat transfer coefficient at the inlet is generally lower than those of other locations. The average heat transfer coefficient increases as heat flux increases or saturation temperature decreases. A correlation is developed to predict the refrigerant-side heat transfer coefficient. The icecream-side heat transfer coefficient oscillates continuously due to the periodic removal of ice formed on the surface. The average heat transfer coefficient during icecream formation is approximately 280 W/$m^2K$, and that during single-phase cooling increased from 150 W/$m^2K$ to 250 W/$m^2K$.

  • The objective of this study is to predict the heat-transfer performance of a spirally coiled circular fin-tube evaporator in which either R134a or R600a was used; this heat-transfer performance was predicted by varying the mass flow rate, inlet air temperature, air flow rate, and tube thickness. Mean deviation for the analytical model from the measured data was ${\pm}8.3%$. Simulation results revealed that at a given mass flow rate, the heat-transfer rate of the evaporator using R600a was higher than that usingR134a because the enthalpy of the former is higher than that of the latter at the given conditions. The heat-transfer rate of both refrigerants increased with an increase in the air flow rate and inlet air temperature but decreased with an increase in the tube thickness.

  • Recently international cooperations are formed to deal with the environmental pollution of the atmosphere generated by the vapor compression refrigeration system. A refrigeration technique, which can replace existing CFC refrigerants that are the main cause of environmental contamination, has received greater attention. Magnetic refrigeration is a refrigeration technique using the magnetocaloric effect of the magnetic material, and is an eco-friendly refrigeration technology using the solid refrigerant instead of CFC refrigerants. Also it is regarded as an efficient refrigeration system to generate temperature difference between high and low sides using the temperature change of magnetic refrigerants according to the change of magnetic field, instead of using power-consuming and noisy compressor. In this paper, we introduce the magnetic refrigeration apparatus using concentric Halbach cylinder permanent magnets and the experimental results using the apparatus.

  • Recently, automobile air conditioning systems have applied an alternative refrigerant that can replace the high GWP refrigerant R134a due to the global warming problem. This study simulated the performance of an automobile climate control system with an internal heat exchanger and TXV. Refrigerant R1234yf was applied as the working fluid. Amesim, a commercial software program, was used to model the main components of the compressor, condenser, TXV, evaporator, and internal heat exchanger. As the outside temperature increased from 30℃ to 40℃, the cooling capacity of the system decreased by 3.1%, and the power consumption of the compressor increased by 17.1%. In addition, The performance characteristics of the refrigeration cycle were simulated by increasing the fin pitch of the condenser from 0.8 mm to 1.4 mm. When the fin pitch was larger than 1.0 mm, the condenser capacity decreased, and the system COP was lowered by 5.9%. When the fin pitch of the condenser was 0.8 mm, which was smaller than 1.0 mm, there was no significant change in the system performance. Hence, the optimal performance was observed at a fin pitch of 1.0 mm.

  • The objective of this study is to investigate the cooling performance of an air-conditioning system for a special purpose vehicle under tropical and severe weather conditions. In order to evaluate and compare the cooling performances, the dual refrigeration cycle using R-134a was tested on a special purpose vehicle with various refrigerant charge amounts and indoor temperatures. The cycle was tested considering indoor cooling speed and compression ratio (discharge pressure), and was optimized at the refrigerant charge amount of 1.5 kg and outdoor temperature of $40.0^{\circ}C$. The time to reach indoor temperature of $15.0^{\circ}C$ increased by 86.5% and 38.1%, at the indoor temperatures from $25.0^{\circ}C$ to $32.5^{\circ}C$ and from $32.5^{\circ}C$ to $40.0^{\circ}C$, respectively. In addition, with the increase in indoor temperature from $25.0^{\circ}C$ to $40.0^{\circ}C$, the cooling capacity increased by 7.3%, from 19.1 kW to 20.5 kW, but decreased by 7.0% from 4.67 to 5.1.

  • In this study, for the purpose of reduction of $CO_2$ gas emission and to increase recovery of waste heat from ships, the ORC (Organic Rankine Cycle) is investigated and offered for the conversion of temperature heat to electricity from waste heat energy from ships. Simulation was performed with waste heat from the exhaust gasse which is relatively high temperature and cooling sea water which is relatively low temperature from ships. Various fluid is used for simulation of the ORC system with variable temperature and flow condition and efficiency of system and output power is compared. Finally, 2,400kW output power is obtained by system optimization of the preheater and reheater utilizing waste heat form sea water cooling system.
