A Dual Integer Register File Structure for Temperature - Aware Microprocessors (온도 인지 마이크로프로세서를 위한 듀얼 레지스터 파일 구조)

  • Today's microprocessor designs are not free from temperature as well as power consumption. As processor technology scales down, an on-chip circuitry increases power density, which incurs excessive temperature (hotspot) problem. To tackle thermal problems cost-effectively, Dynamic Thermal Management (DTM) has been suggested: DTM techniques have benefits of thermal reliability and cooling cost. However, they require trade-off between thermal control and performance loss. This paper proposes a dual integer register file structure to minimize the performance degradation due to DTM invocations. In on-chip thermal control, the most important functional unit is an integer register file. It is the hotspot unit because of frequent read and write data accesses. The proposed dual integer register file migrates read data accesses by adding an extra register file, thus reduces per-unit dynamic power dissipation. As a result, the proposed structure completely eliminates localized hotspots in the integer register file, resulting in much less performance degradation by average 13.35% (maximum 18%) improvement compared to the conventional DTM architecture.

  • Petrochemical industry complex in Korea always has high riskiness due to explosive and inflammable gases. To prevent these explosion, most facility of petrochemical industry complex requires the performance of explosive proof. The control panel, which is used as explosive proof, has been used the air injection method by manually from outside to constantly keep the temperature and pressure between inside and outside of the panel. In this paper, we propose the automatic temperature controller, which performs automatic heating and cooling according to temperature inside the panel in order to control temperature automatically.

  • In this paper, the configuration and design of the test equipment are presented to examine the impact of rapid temperature change in cooling-air that may occur during the operation of the fixed wing aircraft Environmental Control System (ECS) on avionic electronic equipment. At the start of the ECS, the temperature of the air supplied by the aircraft ECS may be increased to 5.0℃ per second. In order to ensure operating of the avionic electronic equipment that is mounted on the aircraft and receives cooling-air from the ECS, testing equipment that can implement the cooling-air characteristic test environment is required. During design of test equipment was verified cooling-air rapid rate of temperature change by performing a thermal/flow analysis, performance of the test equipment implemented was verified by applying an avionic electronic equipment.

  • In this paper, we analyze the current submarine cooling system and study control algorithms for cooling system. Cooling system are installed in the submarine propulsion motor to protect the motor from high-temperature by iron loss and copper loss. The cooling system control the sea water and fresh water pump RPM to keep the motor temperature stable by external environment and motor RPM holding time. The cooling system simulation program is made for checking the cooling performance, and simulation is performed with various control strategy. The results with proposed cooling algorithm is shown to improve the thermal stability and efficiency of cooling system.

  • The electro-optical payload of a low-earth orbit satellite is thermally decoupled with the bus, which supports a payload for a mission operation. The payload has a cooling unit of FPA(Focal Plane Assembly) which has a thermal behavior increasing its temperature instantly during an operation in order to dissipate a waste heat into the space. The FPA cooling unit should include a radiator and heatpipes with a sufficient performance in worst hot condition, and a heater design to maintain its temperature above a minimum allowable temperature in the worst cold condition. In this paper, we analyzed the thermal requirements and the heater design constraints from the thermal analysis results for the current thermal design of the FPA cooling unit and the design elements of the better heater design were found.

  • In this Paper, the temperature control error and cooling characteristics of inverter typ coolers are evaluated to predict application validity of coolers under heating pattern and amount The temperature control error of coolers small in 15~70% range of the max. cooling ability. At less than 15% of max. cooling ability has the inverter type cooler a basic temperature control error $\pm0.5^{\circ}C$ and acts as on/off type coolers. The inverter type cooler is unsuitable for precision temperature control under the complex heating pattern. But PID control of cooler including the heating system is an alternative for the case.

  • In this paper, a cooling system of high-power propulsion motor with Energy Saving System(ESS) is described. Normally, the cooling system for ship consists of fresh water pump, sea water pump, 3-way valve and cooler. In the cooling system, F.W(Fresh Water) and S.W(Sea Water) pump is operated on rated rpm, and the 3-way valve is controlled for preventing over-cooling. So, the consumption power of pump's motor is changed according to a sea water temperature. In the proposed cooling system, F.W. pump and S.W pump is controlled by inverter, and it is can be reduced the consumption power. Also, it is proved with simulation.

  • The paper presents the performance characteristics for a cooling system using EEV. The water cooler was used to reduce thermal deformation and contraction due to high speed of machine tools and the EEV was used for capacity control for water cooler. The apparatus was designed for hot-gas bypass system which a hot-gas can flows from outlet of compressor to the inlet of evaporator. This experiment is the intermediary study for precise temperature control through PID control. The results show that the evaporator pressure increased and refrigeration capacity decreased as the EEV opening step of hot-gas bypass increased. These results can be used as basic data for the design of effective water cooler.

밀봉수주입 열교환기의 비정상 열전달 특성

  • 원자력발전소 화학 및 체적제어계통의 일부인 밀봉수주입계통은 원자로 냉각재펌프 밀봉장치로 일정한 온도 범위의 밀봉수를 공급하여 밀봉장치의 건전성 및 원자로 냉각재 계통의 압력경계를 유지한다. 그러나 발전소 과도상태시 밀봉수 주입온도가 허용범위를 벗어나게 되면 온도조절기 폐쇄신호에 의해 밀봉장치로의 밀봉수 주입이 차단될 수 있다. 본 연구에서는 발전소 과도시에도 밀봉수 주입이 지속적으로 가능한 설계개선 방안으로 밀봉수주입 열교환기 주위에 우회라인을 설치하는 방안을 제시하고 밀봉수주입 열교환기 내에서의 비정상 열전달 현상을 수치해석을 이용하여 분석하였다. 계산은 속도장을 정상 상태인 power-law분포로 가정하고 시간 t=0에서 입구온도가 급격히 변하는 과도시 우회 유량 및 시간 변화에 대한 온도분포, 국부 Nusselt 수, 평균온도 등을 구하였다.
