The purpose of this study was to investigate middle school boys' and their parents' preference on menu types of school breakfast. School breakfast was served at a boys' middle school in Gyeonggi-do, Korea for 7 weeks. Ten types of convenient menus, including steamed rice, rice porridge, rice cake, bread, or cereal, were served to 200 students free of charge. After the service period ended, questionnaires were distributed to the students and their parents. Usable questionnaires were returned by 142 (71%) students and 124 (62%) parents. About two-thirds (66%) of the students and about half (51%) of the parents preferred convenient menus to traditional menus as school breakfast. The students were the most highly satisfied with the menu type including hot dog buns whereas the parents regarded these as neither appropriate nor inappropriate as school breakfast. Overall, the menu types including steamed rice such as Kimbap or rice balls were highly ranked in terms of the students' level of satisfaction as well as the parents' level of appropriateness evaluation. About 20% of the students and 50% of the parents expressed intention to eat or make their children eat school breakfast even if payment is required. Over two-thirds of both the students (70%) and parents (68%) responded that less than 1,500 won per meal would be the appropriate price of school breakfast. The results of this study show that convenient menus could be considered as alternatives to traditional menus in school breakfast service, although additional efforts are necessary to develop such menus to satisfy both the students and their parents.
The purpose of this research was to investigate perception, necessity, and satisfaction of a free foodservice in male middle school students. This study was conducted at male middle schools with paid foodservice (PFS group, 250 students) and with free foodservice (FFS group, 250 students) in Chungnam. Average age of students in the PFS group was 13.1 while that of FFS students was 12.8 years. Exactly 88% of PFS students and 94% of FFS students responded that school foodservice is necessary, which was a significant difference (P<0.05). As the reason for participating in foodservice, about 32% of the PFS students answered the school's request while 33.6% of FFS students answered nutrition, showing a significant difference (P<0.001). Exactly 72.8% of PFS and 96.4% of FFS knew about FFS (P<0.001). More PFS students (86.4%) than FFS students (66%) answered they would not participate in foodservice if the FFS would be introduced and the quality of meal service would deteriorate. After initiation to FFS, there were significant differences in assessment of foodservice: 77.6% of PFS students answered expected that the quality of foodservice would degrade, whereas 74.4% of FFS students answered that quality would not degrade (P<0.001). Satisfaction of foodservice was 2.3 points for FFS students, which was significantly lower than the 2.5 points for PFS students (P<0.001). To sum up assessment of foodservice was positive, whereas satisfaction was not significantly different between PFS and FFS. Based on this research, households, schools, and governments should promote FFS in order to diminish financial pressure for students.
Purpose: This study is a descriptive correlation study to identify how factors such as motivation to learn, school adaptation, self-control, and self-esteem influence the degree of Internet game addiction and to provide basic data for nursing interventions for male middle school students. Methods: The subjects of this study were 418 male students in lst, 2nd and 3rd grade at three middle schools located in Ulsan. Data were collected from May 1, 2011 to May 31, 2011 and analyzed through descriptive statistical methods, such as the t-test, ANOVA, Sheffe's test, Pearson correlation coefficient and multiple regression analysis, via SPSS 18.0 program. The study's structured questionnaire was composed of 25 items of 'the Motivation to Learn Scale', 41 items of 'the School Adaptation Scale', 20 items of 'the Self-Control Scale', 10 items of 'the Self-esteem Scale', and 20 items of 'the Internet Game Addiction Scale'. Results: 163 students (39.0%) belonged to the non-addiction group while 255 students (61.0%) fell into the addiction risk group. The addiction risk group showed a higher degree of addiction than ones in the non-addiction group. The addiction risk group's average scores for motivation to learn, school adaptation, self-control, and self-esteem were lower than those of the non-addiction group. The statistically significant factors (p<.05) that increase the chance of addiction were grade, family atmosphere, self-control, trading of online game items, and the amount of time playing online games. Conclusion: On the basis of the findings of this study, it is suggested that; qualitative research on the routes of addiction be conducted to find out ways to prevent and nurse addicted students; considering the fact that the average age of Internet users is getting lower and lower, a study targeting primary school students be implemented; since the influences of the variables covered in this study turned out to be relatively low, other factors, especially environmental factors, should also be investigated.
The purpose of this study was to analyze the knowledge, attitude and experience of middle school boys toward Sexual Behavior. Data were collected by questionnaires from 246 middle school students in Korea, from June 4 to 30, 2000. The reliabilities of instruments were adequate(Cronbach's alpha= .56-.70). Data were analyzed by frequency, percentage, and ANOVA test using SAS V8 program. The results are as follows; 1. The mean score of knowledge of sexual behavior was $12.89{\pm}2.48$ and showed significant differences by the grade(f=5.0l. p=.0074). 2. The mean score of attitude of sexual behavior was $3.69{\pm}0.37$ and showed significant differences by the grade(f=3.06, p=.0386). 3. The correlation between knowledge and attitude is significant(r=.2290, p=0003). 4. The subjects experienced sexual behaviors such as. pornography(80%), night pollution (37.9%), masturbation(32.2%), Kiss(19.1%), Pet(8.7%), Coitus(3.2%). 5. The subjects being received sexual education were 94.7%, these former sexual educations is unsatisfied(40.7%). 6. The subjects who need sexual educations was 55.1%. The needs of sexual educations was high in the connection on with the other sex(51.9%), coitus(12.3%), sexual impulse (7.5%), sex organs(7.1%), sexual physiology (5.2%), masturbation(4.7%). In conclusion, subjects necessary to give sexual educations are suitable to the subjects's needs, grades and teaching methods such as multimedia program.
This study investigates differences in middle school male students' anthropometric variables and dietary habits using BMI (Body Mass Index) classifications. $\chi^2$ -test for frequency and ANOVA test for mean value and duncan value were used to analyze results. Averaged results of three groups of middle school male students' anthropometry including height (normal group 164.4 cm, overweight group 165.0 cm, obese group 167.0 cm), weight (normal group 56.0 kg, overweight group 70.0 kg, obese group 83.2 kg) and waist circumference (normal group 20.7 cm, overweight group 79.8 cm, overweight group 89.6 cm) were resulted. Classification of obese group was based upon 2007 growth charts using BMI criteria. This study indicates the normal weight group boys have over-eating related dietary habits and the obese groups have less calorie dietary habits. They answered oppositely to normal recognition. The obese group reflected dietary problems, such as preferences for sweet fruit rather than normal group males. Dinnertime of the groups were significantly different and obese group's earlier dinnertime can influence on their late night snack eating. Forty precent of obese male group like fruits as late night eating food. Three meal amount of three groups were significantly different, as obese group answered they ate same amount at every meal. It can mean obese group ate more amount of food in every meal. Overweight and obese male students have dietary problem of fast eating and answers of unbalanced eating were higher in normal group. These could mean obese group eats well in every food and fast eating habit could lead a lot of food eating habit. Obese group chooses out-going food of less calorie and frequency of fast food eating was lower than normal group. In result, obese group answered that they have less calorie related dietary habits, it could mean their answers were false or fixed dietary habit. Therefore, more researches should be followed.
This study was conducted to analyze the effect of male middle school students' eating school breakfast on their attitudes toward breakfast and school breakfast. In addition, the effect of school breakfast on breakfast-related eating behaviors and academic achievement was investigated. The study subjects were selected from a male middle school located in Gyeonggi-do, Republic of Korea. Breakfast was provided at the school for 7 weeks during the 2nd semester of the year 2006. Two sophomore classes were selected for the experimental study. All the students from one class (n = 34; School Breakfast Eaters) have eaten school breakfast while none of the students from the other class (n = 33; School Breakfast Non-eaters) have done so. About two weeks after the school breakfast service was terminated, questionnaires were distributed to the two classes and the responses were analyzed. The results showed that School Breakfast Eaters had more positive attitudes toward breakfast and school breakfast than School Breakfast Non-eaters. In addition, School Breakfast Eaters perceived the positive effect of eating breakfast on their school life more highly than School Breakfast Non-eaters. However there was no significant difference between the two groups in their breakfast eating behaviors in terms of breakfast skipping when the breakfast service was not available. No significant difference was found between the two groups with regards to math score variation before and after school breakfast service. In conclusion, school breakfast for 7 weeks had positive effects on male middle school students' attitudes toward breakfast and school breakfast, although the effect was not confirmed in their breakfast-related eating behaviors after the school breakfast service was terminated

This study was conducted to investigate whether the parental sodium intake and the sodium intake of adolescents are consistent with each other, to identify factors affecting sodium intake of adolescent children, and to measure sodium intake at home. For this study, 405 subjects in the National Health and Nutrition Survey of 2015 whose sodium intake was measured among nutritional intake were selected, excluding elementary school students, middle school students and high school students aged 7 to 18 years. The data were then matched with the father ID and the mother ID in the youth ID. The results of this study were as follows: ${\beta}=-0.187$ for male adolescents, ${\beta}=0.192$ for older adolescents, ${\beta}=0.153$ for higher adolescents, and sodium intake for adolescents. This is because the mother usually prepares meals in Korea. On the other hand, it is predicted that parents will not be able to consider the quality of their children due to the increased number of dual-income couples.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effect of moderate physical exercise program on a number of immune parameters in middle school boys($15.07{\pm}0.39$ yrs). 14 volunteers were included in this physical exercise program. They were randomly assigned to an experiment(7) and a control(7) group. Measurements were taken before program, after 4 weeks and 8 weeks of aerobic exercise for immune parameters such as number of circulating leukocytes, concentration of WEC subsets, lymphocyte subsets, immunoglobulins, complements, and number of blood adipose components. Aerobic exercise consisted of track running at a work intensity of 65% HRmax, $45{\sim}55$ min per day, 3 times per week, and for 8 weeks. The results are as follows; 1. There were no significant changes between and within groups in the number of circulating leukocytes and concentration of WEC subsets. 2. There were significant(p<.05) changes in concentration of B-cell between groups, and T-cell, helper T-cell, and B-cell within experimental group. 3. There were no significant changes between and within groups in concentration of complements. 4. There were significant(p<.05) changes in concentration of IgG between groups and within experimental group. 5. There were significant(p<.05) changes in concentration of TG between groups, and TG, HDL-C and LDL-C within experimental group. In conclusion, the moderate exercise training for 8 weeks can be beneficial on immune function and decrease the concentration of flood adipose components in adolescents.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of the family and peer environments on adolescents' depression. The subject of this study were 667 second graders of middle school from Bucheon, Geonggi-Do and 633 self reported questionnaires were used for final analysis. The major results of this study were as follows: First, the findings suggested that there 'was difference between male and female adolescents in depression. Second, male and female adolescents' depression were associated with peer victimization, relationship with parents, interparental conflict. Adolescents who had high peer victimization, less close relationship with parents and high level of interparental conflict showed high depression.
In order to investigate the ramyeon intake patterns, food value recognition, and their effects on blood pressure and blood lipid levels, a total of 385 male students aged 13- 15 years living in rural area were sampled randomly, and they were surveyed using questionnaire. Blood pressure and fasting serum lipids levels of 123 subjects selected among the total were determined. Of the total subjects 80.3% either liked or liked very much ramyeon and 42.2% of them were eating ramyeon from 1 to 2 times a week,21.1% 5-6 times a week, while 11.7% more than once a day, and 13.1% less than once a month. They took ramyeon from one (56.8%) to two (25.4%) packs each time. Two-third of subjects consumed entire ramyeon soup or more than half of it. Mostly they added egg or onion to ramyeon and took along with kimchi, cooked rice, danmuji, or dried laver. The food value recognition score about ramyeon was 41.33 out of 100 full grade. Comparing to underweight or normal weight subjects, overweight students tended to take ramyeon more frequently when playing with friends and tended to consume less soup of ramyeon. There was a significant negative correlation between ramyeon intake frequencies and HDL-cholesterol levels (r = -.223 p < .05). Moreover, among the normal body weight students (n = 72) adjusted with relative weight, ramyeon intake frequencies showed not only a significant negative correlation with HDL-cholesterol level (r = -.244 p < .05), but also significant positive correlations with atherogenic index (r : .249 p < .05) and systolic blood pressure (r : .259 p < .05) . These results suggested that frequent intake of ramyeon with limited sidedishes as a whole meal might have negative influences on blood pressure and serum lipid levels. Nutrition education is needed to have correct food value recognition and proper consumption of ramyeon along with the balanced diet. (Korean J Community Nutrition 8(4) : 485-494, 2003)
