  • The purpose of this study was to examine the effectiveness of a smoking cessation healing camp for male workers. A single group pre-test post-test design was used. An experimental group (n=28) allocated into a smoking cessation healing camp which was provided for two days and one night. Effectiveness of the intervention was measured at soon after smoking cessation healing camp. There were significant differences between pre-test and post-test on readiness to quit smoking(t=-2.64, p=.013), smoking cessation self-efficacy(t=2.42, pp=.022), nicotine dependence(t=2.55, p=.017), and depression(t=2.85, p=.008). In conclusion, the smoking cessation healing camp is effective for male smokers in workplace settings by providing insightful antismoking information and encouraging smoking cessation self-efficacy and readiness to quit smoking.

The participants of this study were 127 middle-aged male workers working in Jeonnam region, and the data were collected through self-reported structured questionnaire. Descriptive statics, t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient and step wise multiple regression with SPSS/WIN 18.0 were used to analyze the data. According to the results, among the variables related to sleep quality, job stress showed a positive correlation, and job satisfaction showed a negative correlation. In addition, the factors such as job demands, occupational climate, job itself explained the quality of sleep at 24.5%. Based on the findings from the study, in order to improve the quality of sleep program for middle-aged male workers should be combined both strategies to increase job satisfaction and to decrease job stress. It is believed that the effort to reduce the amount of work needed to improve the quality of sleep will be necessary and the efforts among members of the organization will be necessary to establish a healthy workplace.

  • The aim of this study was to investigate the relationship between job stress and smoking behaviors among small scale manufacturing male workers. A self administered questionnaire was given to 856 male workers employed in 24 work places under 50 members of manufacturing industries. As a results, the smoking rates of small scale manufacturing male workers was 35.2%. In the results of multiple logistic regression analysis to know the relationship between job stress and smoking behaviors, the Odds ratio of the total score of Korean Occupational Stress Scale(KOSS) and its subarea(physical environment, job demand, organizational system, lack of reward and occupational climate) were significantly increased in high risk group than normal group. These results suggested that job stress may play a significant role in the smoking behaviors in the high risk group than normal group of small scale manufacturing male workers.

The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. t-test, ANOVA, and pearson correlation coefficient, scheffe test, stepwise multiple linear regression with the SPSS/WIN 20.0 program. The total mean scores of occupational stress on the subjects were $53.77({\pm}6.33)$, depression were $12.10({\pm}7.44)$, drinking were $10.32({\pm}7.55)$. The study showed that drinking is positively correlated with occupational stress, depression. Also drinking explained 15.9% of occupational stress in heavy industrial male workers. • This paper examines why older wage workers leave their jobs and what determine the hazard of retirement. Major results are as follows. First, aged workers leaving their jobs because of formal mandatory retirement are relatively few in number and largely males employed in large establishments. Second, a higher hourly wage is associated with a greater retirement hazard, especially among male employees of large firms. Third, informal mandatory retirement puts a strong pressure towards retirement among older female workers. Fourth, poor health is the primary reason for retirement among older workers, especially for females and small-firm employees. Finally, reasonable hours and greater flexibility of work tend to lower retirement hazard. We discuss some implications of the results for old-age labor market policies.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the standard of health-related fitness evaluation according to the working styles of male manufacturing workers. The subjects were 15,329 male manufacturing workers aged from 40 to 59 years old who had taken a health-related fitness test by K Institution. Health-related fitness components are cardiorespiratory endurance, muscular strength, muscular endurance, flexibility and body composition. We measured Vo2max, grip strength, sit-up, trunk flexion forward, and body fat percentage to ascertain each component. Data were analyzed with Two-way ANOVA, T-test, One-way ANOVA(Scheffe) and Percentile using SPSS version 18.0 program. The analysis results are as follows. First, the health-related fitness of manufacturing workers varied significantly according to their working styles(maximum oxygen uptake : F=88.67(p<.001), grip strength : F=20.09(p<.001), sit-up : F=42.06(p<.001), trunk flexion forward : F=69.44(p<.001), body fat percentage : F=136.75(p<.001)).Therefore, the evaluation standard was set based on the percentile of health fitness items. Second, the average Vo2max, grip strength, and trunk flexion forward of blue-collar workers were higher than those of white-collar workers at all ages. On the other hand, the average sit-up and body fat percentage of white-collar workers were higher than those of blue-collar workers at all ages. Third, these evaluation criteria differed greatly when compared with the results of the National Physical Fitness Survey. Therefore, we have confirmed that the evaluation criteria should be applied differently according to the working style of a worker when evaluating his health-related fitness.
