  • Domoic acid, and amnesic shellfish poison, is a neurotoxin frequently found in shellfishes. Guidance level for the consumable shellfish has been established as $20\;{\mu}g$ domoic acid/g by Health and Welfare Canada and U.S. FDA. Domoic acid is produced by pennate diatom, a Nitzschia pungens f. multiseries ingested by the shellfish. Content of domoic acid in shellfish samples collected along the Korean shoreline from May to December of 1999 was analyzed. The collection included 1 Gastropoda (Murex shell) and 11 Bivalvias (oyster, little neck clam, orient hard clam, venus clam, surf clam, ark shell, hard-shelled mussel, pen shell, jack-knife clam, pink butterfly shell, and granulated ark shell). Samples were homogenized, extracted with 50% methanol, filtered, and analyzed by reversed-phase liquid chromatography at 242 nm with mobile phase consisting of 10% acetonitrile and 0.1% trifluoroacetic acid. Recovery of the HPLC analysis was 95.80% (${\pm}1.09$). All tested samples showed no domoic acid at the detection limit of 50 ng/g.

  • This study focused to evaluate thermal transmittance(U-value) performance of sliding type of aluminum alloy window frame(AAWF) with double glazing(DG) and glazing spacer and that without thermal breaker in winter and summer season by two dimensional steady state heat transfer analysis. The AAWE was installed to an existing educational facilities in Seosan area which is the southern region of the Korean Peninsula. Analysis of 2D steady-state heat transfer was performed through the use of BISCO as calculation and simulation program. U-value and temperature factors were calculated. The results are as followed. First, the isotherm simulation shows that AAWF with double glazing have serious differences from recently proposed window thermal performance standards such as Insulation Performance of Windows and Doors of Building Energy Saving Design Standards and the results of calculation of thermal transmittance performance of AAWF and DG are U=9.631 W/$m^2K$, U=2.382 W/$m^2K$ respectively during winter and summer season. Second, the results of analysis of heat transfer analysis, calculated by simulation, shows that 225% of heat is lost comparing with thermal performance standards U=4.0 W/$m^2K$ of general double glazing among those standards on AAWF without thermal breaker.

  • Apple Marssonina blotch, caused by Diplocarpon mali, which has been increasing on apple trees and become one of the most serious diseases on apple trees in Korea since the begining of 1990's. In this study, ecology of Marssonina blotch including disease incidence and spore dispersals was surveyed from 1992 to 1995 in Kyungpook, and factors influencing the incidence of the disease were analyzed. Marssonina blotch began to occur on apple leaves in June and was observed commonly in most of apple orchards after August, and increased rapidly in September. The incidence of this disease was high at the year of low temperature and a lot of precipitation. The conidia discharge began to occur in May and continued to October, and the peak period of spore release was in August and usually more than 70% of total spore release of the year released from August to September. The incidence of the disease was high in the northern and mountain are as such as Yeongjoo, Chungsong, Andong, and relatively low in the southern areas such as Kunwi, Yongchon. Jonathan cultivar was the most susceptible to Marssonina blotch, and Jonagold, Sekaiichi was secondly susceptible and the next Fuji was more susceptible than Tsugaru. The incidence of the disease was relatively high in orchards which cultivation management of irrigation, drainage, air circulation, fertilization, and fungicide spraying were poor.

  • In this study, for the purpose of decomposing food waste, the strain was screened from traditional fermented food and soils. The enzyme activity (protease, amylase, cellulase, lipase) experiment was carried out using the paper disc method in 212 strains isolated from 5% NaCl media. Among them, only the strains having enzyme activity of more than 2 (soil) or more than 4 (traditional fermented food) with the halozone of enzyme activity of 15 mm or more were selected first, and microorganism identification through 16S rRNA sequencing was performed. Finally, were identified such as Bacillus subtilis, Bacillus amyloliquefaciens, Bacillus siamensis, Bacillus licheniformis, Bacillus aquimaris, Bacillus megaterium, Bacillus koreensis, Bacillus stratoshericus, Bacillus aryabhattai, Bacillus safensis, Marinobacter hydrocarbonoclasticus. 11 species of mixed strains were confirmed that the culture time was 24 hours, the incubation temperature was $30^{\circ}C$ and the optimum pH was 7.0. In order to confirm the degree of decomposition of standard food wastes (100 g) by treating 11 kinds of mixed strains (25%), solid content of more than $2000{\mu}m$ was determined to be 103 g for the sterilized water group and 18 g for the mixed strains group. And the rest was decomposed to a size of less than $2000{\mu}m$.
