We investigated the compositional changes of glycoconjugates (GCs) and expression of estrogen receptor (ER)-$\alpha$, c-fos and c-jun in the vagina of normal and ovariectomized rats by histochemical and immunohistochemical methods. The mucinous transformation of the superficial layer that occurred from late diestrus to proestrus was accompanied with extensive enrichment of GCs. According to the cyclic changes of the vagina, distinct reactivity patterns such as SBA affinity in the diestrus and Con A affinity in the diestrus and estrus phase was observed. However, weak staining for GCs was detected in the atrophied vaginal epithelium of ovariectomized rats. ER-$\alpha$ immunoreaction was mainly demonstrated in the basal layer of epithelium and estrus cycle-related variation in the number of ER-$\alpha$ immunoreaction were not pronounced. But the stromal cells showing ER-$\alpha$ immunoreaction were abundantly observed from diestrus to estrus phase. The most numerous c-fos immunoreactive cells were observed in the basal and intermediate layer of epithelium and stromal fells from the proestrus to estrus phase and c-jun in the basal layer of epithelium during estrus phase. The c-jun immunoreaction of stromal cells expressed only in the estrus phase. In the ovariectomized rats, a few of ER-$\alpha$, c-fos and c-jun immunoreactive cells were observed in the vaginal epithelium and no immunoreaction were found in the stromal cells. ER-$\alpha$ and c-fos immunoreaction fully expressed in the proestrus coincident with the cell proliferation, mutinous transformation and cornification of vaginal epithelium. These data indicate that vagina epithelium and stromal reals express multiple protein such as ER-$\alpha$, c-fos and c-iun by estrogen that may function in process of cells proliferation and differentiation of vagina epithelium.
This study tried to suggest the applicapability of soy protein supplementation and treadmill running exercise for the replacement theraphy on negative effects to estrogen metabolism in menopause. This study was analyzed the effects of 8 week soy protein supplementation and treadmill running exercise on the changes of body composition, blood concentrations of glucose, insulin, triglycerides, C-reactive protein (CRP) and estradiol, estrogen receptor gene expression of liver in ovariectomized rats. Ovariectomized groups showed the increasing responses of body weight, body fat percentage, and blood concentration of triglycerides, but these groups showed the decreasing responses of blood estradiol level and estrogen receptor gene expression in liver. Ovariectomized groups showed the positive responses of blood concentrations of lipid markers, insulin, estradiol, and estrogen receptor gene expression of liver except bone mineral contents after 8 week soy protein supplementation and treadmill running exercise. I could find the positive effects of 8 week soy protein supplementation and treadmill running exercise on the estrogen and lipid metabolism in ovariectomized rats, but this study could not confirmed the detailed replacement program of exercise intensity, duration, and soy protein volume for estrogen metabolism in ovariectomized rats.
The aim of this study was to investigate and compare technique, surgical time, and complications of laparoscopic ovariectomy using $LigaSure^{TM}$ and bipolar vessel sealing system in cats. Laparoscopic ovariectomy was performed under general anesthesia on 10 healthy female cats admitted for elective ovariectomy. Surgery was performed through three midline portals. Each ovary was randomly-assigned to removal by use of either $LigaSure^{TM}$ or bipolar vessel sealing system. Duration of predetermined surgery intervals and complications were compared. Bipolar OVE ($2:16{\pm}1:14$ minutes) took significantly longer surgical time compared to the $LigaSure^{TM}$ OVE ($1:24{\pm}0:59$ minutes, P = 0.021). The ovarian pedicle fat and obesity did not influence surgery duration. Intraoperative hemorrhage occurred with bipolar OVE in three cats, but had no significant influence on surgical time. The results suggest that both $LigaSure^{TM}$ and bipolar devices appear to be effective, but $LigaSure^{TM}$ can be used as a stand-alone device that decreases surgical time and complication compared with bipolar vessel sealing system.
The aim of this study was to evaluate effects of mulberry cultivars extracts on the collagen content of the connective tissues in ovariectomized rats. From day 2 until day 37 after ovariectomy, Sprague-Dawley female rats were randomly assigned to the following groups : sham-operated rats (Sham), ovariectomized control rats (OVX-control), and ovariectomized rats supplemented with $80\%$ ethyl alcohol extracts from various kinds of Tajikistan mulberry, Korea mulberry and China mulberry at 200 mg/kg bw/day, respectively. The mulberry extracts were orally administrated at 1 mL per day. The OVX rats were significantly heavier than the sham-operated rats were at all time points, but supplementation with the mulberry extracts tended to gain weight less than OVX-control did. The ovariectomy caused a decreasing in the levels of collagen content in bone and cartilage tissues. However, supplementation with mulberry extracts prevented the decrease in the collagen level in bone and cartilage tissues. Therefore, it may be used to possibly improve the quality of life in menopausal women.

Artemisia princeps has been utilized as a traditional medicine for a variety of diseases in Korea. In this study, we investigated the effects of Artemisia princeps extract (APE) on bone metabolism both in vitro using primary mouse bone marrow-derived macrophage and in vivo using ovariectomized rats. APE decreased the number of tartrate-resistant acid phosphatase (TRAP)-positive multinucleated cells and TRAP activity. Also, APE inhibited bone resorptive activity of differentiated osteoclasts. In ovariectomized rats, APE alleviated the decrease in the trabecular bone mineral density. These results showed that APE might be useful for the prevention of postmenopausal bone loss.

We investigated the effect of red ginseng extracts on blood biochemical parameters, bone density and bone inorganic components etc. and data were analyzed by one-way ANOVA and Post-Hoc Test. In the results of our study, the level of albumin and HDL, Ca, P, Mg, and estradiol in blood, and the content of Ca, P, ash in femur were significantly increased in red ginseng treated group than in OVX group, and the level of ALP, AST, ALT, blood glucose, total cholesterol, triglyceride, LDL, creatinine, osteocalcin, and N-terminal telopeptide were significantly decreased in red ginseng treated group than in OVX group (p < 0.01). From these results, we knew that within the normal level, red ginseng extracts improved liver and kidney function, component of glucose and lipid in blood, bone density, bone ash and inorganic components in femur, and index related with bone metabolism.

This study investigated the effects of exercise on genistein-induced adipose tissue reduction and anti-inflammation of adipose tissue in ovariectomized mice fed a high-fat diet. Compared to mice fed a high-fat diet (C), both genistein (G) or exercise only (Ex) not only decreased adipose tissue weight and adipocyte size, but also glucose and free fatty acid levels in serum, which were more effectively reduced when genistein and exercise were treated simultaneously (G/Ex). The expression of lipogenesis and inflammatory cytokine genes of both G and Ex in adipose tissue was decreased compared to C. In particular, the decrease of these genes expression in G/Ex was more effective than each treatment alone. Thus, this study revealed that simultaneous treatment of genistein and exercise resulted in more effective improvement of obesity and adipose tissue inflammation than genistein single treatment in ovariectomized mice fed a high-fat diet, and it is a result of positive regulation of lipogenesis genes. This study suggests that the exercise has a beneficial effect on anti-obesity and adipose tissue anti-inflammation of genistein.
