Carbon nanotube cathodes(CNT cathodes) with a trench structure similar to gated structure of triode-type cathode were fabricated by a screen printing method using multi-walled carbon nanotubes. The effects of surface treatments on CNT cathodes were investigated for high efficiency field emission displays(FEDs). A liquid method easily removed the organic residue and protruded the CNTs. Field emission properties were measured by using a diode-type mode. The liquid method produced a turn-on field of $1.4V/{\mu}m$. The emission current density was measured about $3.1mA/cm^{2}$ at the electric field of $3V/{\mu}m$. The liquid method showed a high potential applicable to the surface treatment for triode-type FEDs.
To improve photocatalytic performance, a $PbS/ZnO/TiO_2$ nanotube catalyst was synthesized, and its surface characteristics and photocatalytic efficiency were investigated. The hybrid photocatalysts were produced by anodic oxidation and successive ionic layer adsorption and reaction(SILAR). The photocatalytic efficiency was evaluated using the dye degradation rate. The $PbS/ZnO/TiO_2$ photocatalyst significantly enhanced the photocatalytic activity for dye degradation, which was ascribed to the synergistic effect of their better absorption of solar light and a decrease in the rate of excited electron-hole recombination.
Inorganic phosphors based on $ZrO_2:Eu^{3+}$ nanoparticles were synthesized by a salt-assisted ultrasonic spray pyrolysis process that is suitable for industrially-scalable production because of its continuous nature and because it does not require expensive precursors, long reaction time, physical templates or surfactant. This facile process results in the formation of tiny, highly crystalline spherical nanoparticles without hard agglomeration. The powder X-ray diffraction patterns of the $ZrO_2:Eu^{3+}$ (1-20 mol%) confirmed the body centered tetragonal phase. The average particle size, estimated from the Scherrer equation and from TEM images, was found to be approximately 11 nm. Photoluminescence (PL) emission was recorded under 266 nm excitation and shows an intense emission peak at 607 nm, along with other emission peaks at 580, 592 and 632 nm which are indicated in red.
This study reports an environment-friendly synthetic strategy to process nickel oxide nanocrystals. A mesoporous nickel oxide nanostructure was synthesized using an environmentally benign biomimetic method. We used a natural rambutan peel waste resource as a raw material to ligate nickel ions to form nickel-ellagate complexes. The direct decomposition of the obtained complexes at $700^{\circ}C$, $900^{\circ}C$ and $1100^{\circ}C$ in a static air atmosphere resulted in mesoporous nickel oxide nanostructures. The formation of columnar mesoporous NiO with a concentric stacked doughnuts architecture was purely dependent on the suitable direct decomposition temperature at $1100^{\circ}C$ when the synthesis was carried out. The prepared NiO nanocrystals were coated on cotton fabric and their antibacterial activity was also analyzed. The NiO nanoparticle-treated cotton fabric exhibited good antibacterial and wash durability performance.
Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskite nanocrystals have attracted a lot of attention owing to their excellent optical properties such as high absorption coefficient, high diffusion length, and photoluminescence quantum yield in optoelectronic applications. Despite the many advantages of optoelectronic materials, understanding on how these materials interact with their environments is still lacking. In this study, the fluorescence properties of methylammonium lead bromide (CH3NH3PbBr3, MAPbBr3) nanoparticles are investigated for the detection of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and aliphatic amines (monoethylamine, diethylamine, and trimethylamine). In particular, colloidal MAPbBr3 nanoparticles demonstrate a high selectivity in response to diethylamine, in which a significant photoluminescence (PL) quenching (~ 100 %) is observed at a concentration of 100 ppm. This selectivity to the aliphatic amines may originate from the relative size of the amine molecules that must be accommodated in the perovskite crystals structure with a narrow range of tolerance factor. Sensitive PL response of MAPbBr3 nanocrystals suggests a simple and effective strategy for colorimetric and fluorescence sensing of aliphatic amines in organic solution phase.
HCl concentration and reaction time are the decisive factors in determining the structure of precipitates in the process of synthesis of $TiO_2$ particles from aqueous $TiOCl_2$ solution by precipitation and the volumetric proportion of brookite phase in $TiO_2$ particles can be controlled by these two factors. As reaction rate increases with increase of reaction temperature, the reaction time, at which maximum volumetric proportion of brookite phase in $TiO_2$ particles was obtained, was reduced. The brookite was transformed directly to rutile phase with only increase of reaction time. And precipitation was delayed with increase of HCl concentration because the amount of $H_2$O, which is necessary source of oxygen for conversion of $Ti^{+4}$ to $TiO_2$, was relatively reduced with increase of that. Brookite in the mixture phase powder was finally transformed to rutile phase via anatase through heat-treatment.
The effects of paste materials on field emission properties in a carbon nanotube(CNT) cathode were investigated for high-efficient field emission displays. The major components in CNT paste for screen printing were a metallic Ag-paste, a dielectric glass-frit and CNT ink. The emission current from the cathode by an electron tunneling effect increased with an increase in the dielectric material fraction in the CNT paste, which is related to an increase of field enhancement factor in Fowler-Nordheim equation. The surface treatment used, after soft baking of the screen-printed CNT films, greatly affected the decrease in the turn-on field in CNT cathode and the uniformity of emission sites over the entire CNT film area.
The ZnO nanorods were synthesized using vapor-solid (VS) method on sodalime glass substrate without the presence of metal catalyst. ZnO nanorods were prepared thermal evaporation of Zn powder at $500^{\circ}C$. As-fabricated ZnO nanorods had an average diameter and length of 85 nm and 1.7 $\mu\textrm{m}$. Transmission electron microscopy revealed that the ZnO nanorods were single crystalline with the growth direction perpendicular to the (101) lattice plane. The influences of reaction time on the formation of the ZnO nanorods were investigated. The photoluminescence measurements showed that the ZnO nanorods had a strong ultraviolet emission at around 380 nm and a green emission at around 500 nm.
In the present study, nano-size powders of ternary ferrites, $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}Fe_2O_4$, as the potential catalysts of $CO_2$decomposition, were prepared by the wet processing of hydrothermal synthesis and coprecipitation method, and the catalyzing effects of impregnation of the noble metals, Pt and Pd, onto $Ni_{0.5}Zn_{0.5}Fe_2O_4$for the $CO_2$decomposition were investigated. XRD results of the synthesized ferrites showed a typical spinel structure of ferrite and the particle size was very small as about 6~10 nm. BET surface area of the ternary ferrites was not affected by the impregnation of Pt and Pd. The reactivity of the $CO_2$decomposition to carbon was improved by the impregnation of the noble metals of Pd and Pt. The effect of Pd-impregnation on the $CO_2$decomposition rate was higher than Pt-impregnation.
The mesoporous TiO2 film for the dye-sensitized solar cell was prepared by the spin coating using nano particle $TiO_2$ slurry. In order to obtain the good dispersion of nano size $TiO_2$ particles in slurry, the pH of solvent, the sort and quantity of solvent additive and the quantity of surfactant were adjusted. The experimental range of pH was $2\;{\sim}\;4$. The basic solvent for slurry was dilute $HNO_3$ and the solvent additives were ethylene glycol, propylene glycol and butylene glycol. The degree of particle dispersion was indirectly estimated by the viscosity of slurry and the microstructure after sintering. As results, the lower the pH of solvent was the lower the viscosity of the slurry became. The addition of ethylene glycol and propylene glycol to dilute $HNO_3$ brought about the lowering of viscosity and the enhancement of stability in slurry. The addition of surfactant lowered the viscosity of slurry. It was possible to obtain the homogeneous and uniformly dispersed mesoporous TiO2 film using the dilute HNO3 solvent of pH 2 with the addition of ethylene glycol, propylene glycol and neutral surfactant.
