Until now, there has been much efforts for the development of polycyclic molecules as high energy materials because of their high density and potential energy. However, there were only a few reports on the development of highly N-substituted polycyclic compounds due to difficulties of the synthesis. We have designed pentaazapropellanes as new high energy materials and we have recently reported unsubstituted 3,7,9,11-tetraoxo-2,4,6,8,10-pentaaza[3.3.3]propellane (TOPAP) 2 as a new skeleton for high energy materials. Herein, the nitration of TOPAP 2 was reported for the first time. Thus, 2,6-dinitro-3,7,9,11-ttraoxo-2,4,6,8,10-pentaaza[3.3.3]propellane (2,6-DNTOPAP) 5C, which is a new nitro derivative of TOPAP 2, was obtained up to 82% yield by the reaction of $NO_2BF_4$ and anhydrous $HNO_3$. The structure of 5C was determined by spectroscopic analysis.
PURPOSES : Recently, bonded concrete overlay has been used as an alternative solution in concrete pavement rehabilitation since its material properties are similar to those of the existing concrete pavements. Deteriorated concrete pavements need rapid rehabilitation in order to prevent traffic jams on Korean expressways. Moreover, speedy and effective repair methods are required. Therefore, the use of bonded concrete overlay with ultra-rapid hardening cement has increased in an effort to reopen promptly the expressways in Korea. However, mobile mixer is required for ultra-rapid hardening cement concrete mixing in the construction site. The use of mobile mixer causes various disadvantages aforementioned such as limitation of the construction supply, open-air storage of mixing materials, increase in construction cost, and etc. In this study, therefore, hydration accelerator in-situ mixing on polymer modified concrete produced in concrete plant is attempted in order to avoid the disadvantages of existing bonded concrete overlay method using ultra-rapid hardening cement. METHODS : Bonded concrete overlay materials using ultra-rapid hardening cement should be meet all the requirements including structural characteristics, compatibility, durability for field application. Therefore, This study aimed to evaluate the application of hydration accelerator in-situ mixing on polymer modified concrete by evaluating structural characteristics, compatibility, durability and economic efficiency for bonded concrete overlay. RESULTS : Test results of structural characteristics showed that the compressive, flexural strength and bond strength were exceed 21MPa, 3.15MPa and 1.4MPa, respectively, which are the target strengths of four hours age for the purpose of prompt traffic reopening. In addition, tests of compatibility, such as drying shrinkage, coefficient of thermal expansion and modulus of elasticity, and durability (chloride ions penetration resistance, freezing-thawing resistance, scaling resistance, abrasion resistance and crack resistance), showed that the hydration accelerator in-situ mixing on polymer modified concrete were satisfied the required criteria. CONCLUSIONS : It was known that the hydration accelerator in-situ mixing on polymer modified concrete overlay method was applicable for bonded concrete overlay and was a good alternative method to substitute the existing bonded concrete overlay method since structural characteristics, compatibility, durability were satisfied the criteria and its economic efficiency was excellent compare to the existing bonded concrete overlay methods.

Roughness is the most important factor to maintain the road performance, and affects greatly on the design life in Jointed Plain Concrete pavements. Also, the factors the evaluate pavement‘s commonality is the three method such as functionality, safety and structural performance. In evaluating function of road, representative factors is the roughness, which has been used to determine maintenance time as key standard. As research for roughness is absence in pavement design. Applied roughness-model had a low-reliability in Korea. Therefore, it is needed to develop reliable model in road roughness. In this research, uniform specific is applied to distribute them after selecting the concrete pavements. Concrete pavement is divided by sections of 238. Total length of this sections has 281km and account for 16% of total road length in korean concrete pavements for selected sections. Considering the korean roughness-model, the evaluation of roughness is performed for the freezing index, average annual rainfall, condition for the base, the amount of traffic as well as spalling(%), cracking(%), age(year) at the selected section at the selected section. Also, additional sections is selected to evaluate various age which affects on the roughness. As a result of the analysis, it showed that spalling(%), cracking(%), age(year), and the condition of the base affected road roughness. When the correlation with the road roughness was analyzed, the reliable model for road roughness was proposed, and the ratio that can explain road roughness was R2-68.8% and P value-0 which is statistically meaningful.

PURPOSES : A composite pavement utilizes both an asphalt surface and a concrete base. Typically, a concrete base layer provides structural capacity, while an asphalt surface layer provides smoothness and riding quality. This pavement type can be used in conjunction with rollercompacted concrete (RCC) pavement as a base layer due to its fast construction, economic efficiency, and structural performance. However, the service life and functionality of composite pavement may be reduced due to interfacial bond failure. Therefore, adequate interfacial bonding between the asphalt surface and the concrete base is essential to achieving monolithic behavior. The purpose of this study is to investigate the bond characteristics at the interface between asphalt (HMA; hot-mixed asphalt) and the RCC base. METHODS : This study was performed to determine the optimal type and application rate of tack coat material for RCC-base composite pavement. In addition, the core size effect, temperature condition, and bonding failure shape were analyzed to investigate the bonding characteristics at the interface between the RCC base and HMA surface. To evaluate the bond strength, a pull-off test was performed using different diameters of specimens such as 50 mm and 100 mm. Tack coat materials such as RSC-4 and BD-Coat were applied in amounts of 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9, and $1.1l/m^2$ to determine the optimal application rate. In order to evaluate the bond strength characteristics with temperature changes, a pull-off test was carried out at -15, 0, 20, and $40^{\circ}C$. In addition, the bond failure shapes were analyzed using an image analysis program after the pull-off tests were completed. RESULTS : The test results indicated that the optimal application rate of RSC-4 and BD-Coat were $0.8l/m^2$, $0.9l/m^2$, respectively. The core size effect was determined to be negligible because the bond strengths were similar in specimens with diameters of 50 mm and 100 mm. The bond strengths of RSC-4 and BD-Coat were found to decrease significantly when the temperature increased. As a result of the bonding failure shape in low-temperature conditions such as -15, 0, and $20^{\circ}C$, it was found that most of the debonding occurred at the interface between the tack coat and RCC surface. On the other hand, the interface between the HMA and tack coat was weaker than that between the tack coat and RCC at a high temperature of $40^{\circ}C$. CONCLUSIONS : This study suggested an optimal application rate of tack coat materials to apply to RCC-base composite pavement. The bond strengths at high temperatures were significantly lower than the required bond (tensile) strength of 0.4 MPa. It was known that the temperature was a critical factor affecting the bond strength at the interface of the RCC-base composite pavement.
In this study, we researched the concentration of nitrogen dioxide($NO_{2}$) and sulfur dioxide($SO_{2}$) of indoor(waiting room) and outdoor(place of getting on the bus) at the bus terminals (Kang-Nam, Dong-Seoul and Nam-Bu) in Seoul to recognize the degree of pollution by exhaust gas of the diesel engine vehicles, and examine the factor that might affect air pollution of terminals. The concentration of $NO_{2}$ and $SO_{2}$ were measured in winter and summer, and the results of the analysis are as follows : The mean concentration of $NO_{2}$ was $57.49{\pm}21.86$ ppb and the concentration of outdoor with $64.10{\pm}27.69$ ppb was significantly higher than the indoor with $50.89{\pm}10.92$ ppb (p<0.05), and the highest with $73.54{\pm}25.54$ ppb at Kang-Nam terminal (p<0.01). The mean concentration of $NO_{2}$ was $62.80{\pm}24.74$ ppb in winter and $52.19{\pm}17.50$ ppb in summer, and had a not statistical difference. The mean concentration of $SO_{2}$ was $31.71{\pm}8.73$ ppb and the concentration of outdoor with $31.04{\pm}8.89$ ppb was similar to the indoor $32.29{\pm}8.70$ ppb, and the highest with $32.57{\pm}9.01$ ppb at Dong-Seoul terminal (p<0.05). The mean concentration of $SO_{2}$ in winter with $39.67{\pm}4.10$ ppb was significantly higher than in summer with $23.76{\pm}2.61$ ppb (p<0.01). The concentration of outdoor $NO_{2}$ at Kang-Nam terminal was 104, 84 ppb in winter and 81.20 ppb in summer, and had a statistical difference compared with the concentration of indoor $NO_{2}$ at Dong-Seoul and Nam-Bu terminals. The concentration of indoor $NO_{2}$ and $SO_{2}$ were higher than that of outdoor at Kang-Nam and Dong-Seoul terminals, but on the contrary, lower than that of outdoor at Nam-Bu terminal. The concentration of $NO_{2}$ and $SO_{2}$ at Nam-Bu terminal were lower than those at Kang-Nam and Dong-Seoul terminals. While the concentration of $SO_{2}$ show the large difference between winter and summer, that of $NO_{2}$ dose not.
The guano formed from the bat excrement in a cave contains various sulfate and phosphate minerals formed from the reaction of bat excrement with surrounding rocks and clastic minerals. Therefore, the mineral compositions in the guano provide basic informations on the geochemical environments affecting mineral formation in a cave. This study was conducted to study the mineral compositions of guano and the factors affecting those compositions by comparing mineralogical and chemical compositions in three different limestone caves in Korea. The guano samples in Gossi Cave contain detrital minerals such as illite, quartz and feldspar and relatively large amount of gypsum. The contents of gypsum increase with increasing depth, which is different from the samples collected in other caves. The samples collected from Baekryong Cave have the similar mineral compositions to those in Gossi Cave, but they also contain additional kaolinite and very small amount of gypsum. The samples in Sungryu Cave have similar mineralogical compositions to those in Gossi Cave, but contian bassanite instead of gypsum. The mineralogical compositions are well correlated with the chemical compositions of guano. The mineral compositions indicate that, in Gossi Cave, the minerals were formed by the reaction of large amount of bat excrement with surrounding rocks in high humidity condition or in the condition of frequent floods. In the case of Sungryu Cave, bassanite which can be formed in a dry condition indicates that minerals were formed in a relatively low humidity condition.

CTD and current observation were taken to investigate the structure of the cold water in the Western Channel of the Korea Strait in October 1993. Thickness of the cold water in the deep trough of the strait changes from 20 m to 70 m according to the water depth. Thermocline between the Tsushima Warm Water and the cold water deepens from north to south with 0.00057 in slope. Temporal variation of the thickness appears to be related with the tidal current. The maximum variation is 20 m for 48 hours. Mean velocity of the cold water for 72 hours is 17 cm/sec southward. A simple model was used to understand dynamically the southward flow of the cold water and the return flow at the upper part in the lower layer. Calculated maximum southward flow and eddy viscosity coefficient are 7 cm/sec and 0.038 $m^2$/sec respectively in the model. Southward transport is $0.032$\times$10^6㎥/sec$ at the northern part in the trough and decreases from north to south due to the presence of the return flow. Southward transport increases with the increase in the upper layer transport but is not affected by the density of the upper layer or the interface slope.

Purpose: To assess the usefulness of early stabilization for initial shoulder dislocation which is indicated in some patients by comparing the arthroscopic findings and the outcomes of Bankart repair in the initial and recurrent dislocation. Materials and Methods: The study was performed on 16 cases of initial dislocation and 44 cases of recurrent dislocation. The follow-up period was 25 months in the initial dislocation group and 28 months in the recurrent group. Bankart lesion and the adjacent tissues were compared, and the results were evaluated by the Rowe rating scale. Results: Detached labrum and capsular ligament of the initial dislocation group were elastic and unretracted. While in the recurrent dislocation those were inelastic, and displaced and adhesive in many cases. The outcomes were mean 95 points in the initial group and 91 points in the recurrent group. In the initial group, apprehension was detected in only 1 case(6%). In the recurrent group, instability was detected in 4 cases(9%). Conclusion: Our data suggest that Bankart lesion in the initial dislocation can be repaired readily by surgery, the recovery is efficient, and the recurrence would be reduced. Thus, in active young sports lovers as well as athletes, early stabilization surgery for initial shoulder dislocation may be more helpful.

(2S,3S,4S)-3,4-Dihydroxyglutamic acid (DHGA), a biologically active ${\alpha},{\beta}$-dihydroxy-${\gamma}$-amino acid, was efficiently synthesized from a readily available D-serine derivative in 30% overall yield over 11 steps. The key stereoselective $OsO_4$-catalyzed dihydroxylation reaction controlled by an N-diphenylmethylene group on the amino group of ${\gamma}$-amino-${\alpha},{\beta}$-unsaturated (Z)-ester successfully introduced the diol moiety of the intermediate 5a in 86% with more than 10 : 1 diastereomeric ration. Then it was in turn successfully converted to the desired target compound, (2S,3S,4S)-3,4-DHGA, via simple oxidation and hydrolysis in a highly stereoselective manner and a higher yield than the previous syntheses. This result strongly supports that our synthetic methodology of stereoselective $OsO_4$-catalyzed dihydroxylation should be useful in stereoselctive synthesis of various bioactive compounds with an amino diol moiety.

In the upstream of Nakdong river in Bonghwa-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do, certain areas of riverside were found to be covered by weathered mine tailings which were assumed to be migrated and deposited by flood. This study was conducted to investigate the formation and characteristics of the secondary minerals from tailings and related leaching behavior of heavy metals in the severely weathered tailing deposits by river waters. Quartz, feldspar, micas, chlorite, hornblende, talc, pyroxene (johannsenite), pyrite, and calcite were identified as primary minerals by XRD. Kaolinite can be formed by the weathering of tailings, but considering the short period of weathering time, kaolinite in the deposits is considered to be from unweathered tailings or moved from soils. The secondary minerals such as goethite, gypsum, basanite, and jarosite were also identified. The formation of the secondary minerals was affected by the species of primary minerals and pH conditions. The weathering of pyrite produced sulfate minerals such as gypsum, basanite, jarosite, and also goethite. Mn oxide was also identified by SEM, coated on the primary minerals such as quartz. This Mn oxide was poorly crystalline and thought to be the weathering product of johannsenite (Mn-pyroxene). The Fe and Mn oxides are the main minerals determining the brown/red and black colors of weathered tailings. EDS results showed that those oxides contain high concentrations of Pb, Zn, and As, indicating that, in the river, the formation of Fe and Mn oxides can control the behavior and leaching of heavy metals by co-precipitation or adsorption.
