  • Recently, environmental issues have become serious, and Jeju Island is promoting a pilot project of a smart collection system(waste weight-based collection system) at clean houses in Yongdam 1-dong. However, the new system faced an opposition from elderly residents who were not accustomed to using machines or smart devices. In order to solve this problem, it was intended to suggest policies related to this by conducting environmental education and identifying problems with the effect of environmental education awareness through data analysis method. The results showed positive answers in most of the satisfaction and achievement evaluations, but it is also true that most of the residents need to be educated and more information should be given. In order to vitalize education, it is important to increase the number of instructors and support them to increase their expertise. It is also important to take a practical process that strengthens public relations, shares information, and links with the local community to increase the actual participation of local residents. In addition, it is critical to secure a budget from local governments to maintain education and public awareness, and it will be helpful to link with talent donation projects in the region.

  • Torrential rain causes landslide damage every year. In particular, the 2011 downpour caused landslides at numerous points throughout Mt. Woomyeon, which resulted in considerable damage to people and property. Because it occurred in an urban area, this case became a major social issue and received public attention. Measures were quickly implemented for multilateral investigations and recovery. Landslides caused by heavy rain are greatly affected by rainfall at the time. Landslides from the upper part erode the flow path, increasing the size, causing much damage to the lower part. This study selected a rural village area among the damaged areas of Mt. Woomyeon, and analyzed the change in terrain profile before and after a landslide using the DSM data obtained from airborne LiDAR. This area can be divided into three hydrological basins. For each basin, the analysis was performed on the average slope of each part of the flow path, as well as the erosion and deposition due to soil flow. As a result of the analysis, it was estimated that the total amount of soil from the Jeonwon village was 15,300㎥. These field data based on GIS can be used as basic information to predict damage in the case of a similar disaster, and it can be helpful in analyzing the results of various debris flow simulations.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of maximum and endurance resistance exercises on total work, blood viscosity, and erythrocyte volume ratio. The study subjects were selected as 15 men in their twenties with 12 months or more of resistance exercise experience, and the bench press 1RM was measured before the experiment, and the experiment for each condition was cross-allocated at intervals of one week, and the maximum repetition was performed in 6 sets. As a result, the total amount of exercise showed that the muscular endurance strength was higher than that of the maximum muscular strength (p<.001), and the blood viscosity and erythrocyte volume ratio were higher after exercise than before (p<.01) regardless of the total exercise amount. In summary, it was found that blood viscosity was not affected by exercise intensity and amount of exercise, and increased with one-time resistance exercise. This is clinically significant in constructing a resistance exercise program, and it is considered to be a reference material in creating an exercise program for clinical patients related to vascular disease.

  • In the Yeongdong region of Gangwon-do, coastal areas are important resources in terms of cultural, social and economic aspects. However, the coast of Gangwon-do is experiencing severe erosion, and it is concerned that its adverse effects will gradually increase. In this study, coastline changes of Yangyang and Gangneung in Gangwon-do were tracked and analyzed over a long period of time. In order to build time series image data, aerial photos from the 1940s to the present were mainly used, and data from CORONA satellite, which operated from the 1960s to the early 1970s, were collected and used together. Using 51cm resolution ortho image and 2m resolution Digital Elevation Model(DEM) as reference, ground control points were selected to perform geometric correction on the aerial photos and CORONA images. Subsequently, Canny edge detector applied to these images to extract the coastlines. As a result of analyzing the extracted and vectorized coastlines by overlaying them in chronological order, erosion and deposition occurring around the artificial structures and on the nearby beaches were observed. In this study, the effect of seasonal variation, tide, and various coastal management including the beach filling were not considered. Because coastal erosion is greatly affected by geographic factors, each local government must find its own solution. Continuous research and local data accumulation are required.

  • Geotextile tubes are widely used to prevent erosion in coastal areas and to replace the backfill for shore slopes in the reclamation of land using dredged soil. In this study, The triaxial confining pressures were chosen as 10kPa, 50kPa, or 100kPa for the specimens reinforced with geotextile considering the condition in the site. The strain behavior under various compressive stresses was then identified. At strains 0% to 7%, the stress-strain behavior was the same due to the effect of initial strain hardening, in which the force was exerted according to the relaxation of the geotextile regardless of the confining pressure (≤100kPa). At strains of 7% or more, the specimen with the small confining pressure had smaller deformation under load, which increases the tensile resistance provided by the reinforcing geotextile. Brittle fracture was then observed due to strain softening and the deviator stress abruptly decreased. This is different from the phenomenon in which the shear strength increases as the confining pressure increases in general triaxial compression tests. In the geoxtile-confined tests, geotextiles are primarily subjected to tensile displacement. Thereafter, the modulus of elasticity increases rapidly, which exhibits the elastic behavior of the geotextile.

  • In this study, the probability of secondary carcinogenesis was analyzed by measuring the exposure dose of surrounding normal organs during radiosurgery using a gamma knife. A pediatric phantom (Model 706-G, CIRS, USA) composed of human tissue-equivalent material was set to four tumor volumes of 0.25 cm3, 0.51 cm3, 1.01 cm3, and 2.03 cm3, and the average dose was 18.4 ± 3.4 Gy. After installing the Rando phantom on the table of the gamma knife surgical equipment, the OSLD nanoDot dosimeters were placed in the right eye, left eye, thyroid, thymus gland, right lung, and left lung to measure each exposure dose. The probability of cancer occurrence due to radiation exposure of surrounding normal organs during gamma knife radiosurgery for acoustic schwannoma disease was 4.08 cancers per 100,000 at a tumor volume of 2.03 cm3. This study is expected to be used as useful data in relation to stochastic effects in the future by studying the risk of secondary radiation exposure that can occur during stereotactic radiosurgery.

  • This study aims to analyze the secondary carcinogenesis rate caused by exposure of organs at risk of damage using a glass dosimeter during radiosurgery in vestibular schwannoma disease. Using a pediatric phantom of human tissue equivalent material, the volume of the tumor was set to a total of three volumes: 0.506 cm3, 1.008 cm3, and 2.032 cm3, and a radiosurgery plan was established with an average dose of 18.4 ± 3.4 Gy. After mounting the human body phantom on the table of surgical equipment, glass dosimeters were placed on the right eye, left eye, thyroid gland, thymus, right lung, and left lung to measure the exposure dose, respectively. In this study, the incidence of secondary cancer due to exposure to damaged organs during gamma knife radiosurgery in vestibular schwannoma disease with the largest tumor volume of 2.032 cm3 was measured with a glass dosimeter. This study studies the risk of secondary radiation exposure dose that can occur during stereotactic radiosurgery, and it is considered that it will be used as basic data in the field of radiation damage related to the stochastic effect of radiation in the future.

  • As heavy precipitation rates have increased due to climate change, the risk of landslides has also become greater. Studies in the field of disaster risk assessment predominantly focus on evaluating intrinsic importance represented by the use or role of facilities. This work, however, focused on evaluating risks according to the external conditions of facilities, which were presented via debris flow simulation. A random walk model (RWM) was partially improved and used for the debris flow simulation. The existing RWM algorithm contained the problem of the simulation results being overly concentrated on the maximum slope line. To improve the model, the center cell height was adjusted and the inertia application method was modified. Facility information was collected from a digital topographic map layer. The risk level of each object was evaluated by combining the simulation result and the digital topographic map layer. A risk assessment technique suitable for the polygon and polyline layers was applied, respectively. Finally, by combining the evaluated risk with the attribute table of the layer, a system was prepared that could create a list of objects expected to be damaged, derive various statistics, and express the risk of each facility on a map. In short, we used an easy-to-understand simulation algorithm and proposed a technique to express detailed risk information on a map. This work will aid in the user-friendly development of a debris flow risk assessment system.

  • The purpose of this study is to construct basic data for efficient technical training by investigating the difference in muscle activity during badminton technical movements involving jump motions similar to game situations. Seven male badminton players were randomly assigned to perform smash, drop, and clear techniques, and electromyograms were measured during the implementation of three technical movements. Measured EMG was calculated by RMS and one-way ANOVA was performed. The muscle activity of the smashing motion did not show any significant difference according to the site. In drop motion, activity of PM in the upper extremity muscles was lower than that of BC and ECR, and FCR activity was lower than that of EC. The activity of ECR was higher than that of PM and FCR. The activity of ES in trunk muscles was lower than that of RF and GM. RF activity of lower extremity muscles was higher than that of ES and BF. In clear motion, the activity of TC in upper extremity muscle was higher than FCR. The activity of ES in trunk muscles was lower than that of BF. RF activity of lower extremity muscles was higher than that of BF, and BF activity was lower than that of RF and GM. The activity of GM was higher than that of BF. As for muscle activity according to badminton skills, smash and drop motions were higher than clear motions in FCR, and clear motions were higher than smash and drop motions in RA. In conclusion, it is considered that muscle activity during the badminton game is different according to the characteristics of each skill, and FCR can affect the smash and drop, and RA can affect the clear motion.
