Studies on the Root System of Soybeans I. Relations between the top and the root (대두의 근계에 관한 연구 제 1 보 지상부와 근계와의 관계)

  • The experiment was carried out to make clear the root characters and relationships among some quantitative characters of soybeans. The results obtained are summarized as follows: 1. Stem diameter was shown the greater growing in thickness after one month from sowing than the earlier stage, and the greater growing was shown in fertile bed soil than in sand soil. 2. The elongation of plant top in soybean plant was also shown the greater rate in bed soil than in sand soil 3. The length of plant root was longer than the length of plant top in the earlier stage of growing, and the length of root was much greater in sand soil than in fertile bed soil. 4. Weight of plant top was shown more in bed soil than in sand soil, but this tendency was shown more greater rate in the length of plant top than in weight of plant top. 5. Weight of root was more compared with weight of plant top in the earlier stage of growth, and also more greater rate was shown in sand soil than in fertile bed soil. 6. Highly significant correlations were shown among five quantitative characters, namely stem diameter, length of top, weight of top, length of root and weight of root, etc.

Estimation of Standard Length-Weight Relationships of 10 Freshwater Fish in the South Korea for Application of Relative Weight Index (한국 담수어류 10종의 상대 무게지수(Relative weight index) 활용을 위한 표준 길이-무게 상관관계(Standard Length-Weight relationships) 산출)

  • The Relative weight index is an index for evaluating nutritional condition of fish by calculating a ratio of observed weight to standard weight. The purpose of this study is estimating standard Length-Weight relationships (standard LWRs) to calculate standard weight for application of relative weight index and analyze frequency distribution of relative weight index of 10 freshwater fish in the South Korea. The standard LWRs for each species was calculated by the Length-Weight data sets from 798 times of captures at 141 sites. The correlation of determination (r2) for all species was over 0.9 and values of parameter b were within the expected range according to Froese (2006). We calculated in increments of 10 from 10 to 90 percentile of relative weight index for each species, and it could be used as a standard for quantitative assessment of nutritional condition of freshwater fish.

Seed Number by Year of Camellia japonica in Korea (동백나무 종자의 연차별 개수 비교)

  • 본 연구는 대한민국 안면도 식재의 동백나무 열매를 연차별로 수집하여 열매 속 종자 구성의 형질특성을 파악하였다. 열매 무게에 따른 종자 개수는 열매 무게 5.0g 이하에서 1.20개이었으나, 무게 40.1g 이상에서 7.35개를 나타내어 열매가 무거울수록 종자 개수도 더 많아지는 경향이었다. 연도별 2015년, 2016년, 2017년 모두 열매가 무거울수록 종자 개수도 더 많아졌다. 열매 속 종자 개수에 따른 열매 크기 및 무게 특성은 Table 2와 같다. 열매 속 종자 개수가 1개에서 10개로 증가할 수록 열매 너비 (폭)는 23.10mm에서 39.15mm로 넓어졌고, 열매 길이는 23.63mm에서 35.55mm로 길었으며, 열매 무게는 7.00g에서 29.05g으로 증가하였다. 연도별 2015년, 2016년, 2017년 모두 종자 개수가 많을수록 열매 크기 및 무게가 증가하는 경향이었다. 종자 개수와 열매 형질 간의 상관관계는 Table 3과 같다. 종자 개수는 열매의 너비, 길이, 무게와 정의 유의한 상관이 있었다. 또한 종자 개수는 열매 너비, 무게보다 길이와의 상관계수가 더 작았다. 이는 연도별 2015년, 2016년, 2017년 모두 비슷하였다.

Morphological Characteristics and Proximate Compositions of the Recommended Soybean Varieties in Korea (장려품종 콩의 형태 및 성분특성)

  • This study was carried out for investigation of morphological characteristics and for analysis of the relationships between morphological indices and proximate compositions of the recommended soybean varieties in Korea. The weight of 100 seeds and weight percentages of seed coat and germ to the whole soybean of 19 varieties were ranged from 12.28 to 25.54g, from 6.02 to 8.29% and from 1.66 to 3.35%, respectively. The average long and short widths and length were $5.95{\sim}7.59mm,\;5.03{\sim}6.95mm\;and\;6.44{\sim}8.38mm$, respectively. The Hunter b values(yellowness) ranged from 15.9 to 21.7 for seed coat and from 17.7 to 23.1 for cotyledon. From the statistical analysis, a strong positive correlation(r>0.97) existed between total weight and cotyledon weight and long width, and between cotyledon weight and long width. Protein content had low correlations(r<0.48) with total weight, cotyledon weight, length and long width.

  • For the fundamental studies on the improvement of grain and eating quality of barley. grain and crease development were investigated with 44 cultivars. The varietal differences in the length, width, thickness. weight and crease development of barley grains were significant. There were significant correlations between grain development and development of crease in many cases.

  • In this paper, the 1/5 scale models of the reinforced concrete colunms were designed and fabricated. The influence of the number of blasting holes on the exposed length of steel bars and vertical load was investigated. The relation between the length of steel bar and the number of blasting holes was examined by performing the blast tests considering the vertical load on the scaled reinforced concrete columns. Weight of scaled column models by blasting and that of exposed was compared with the number of blasting holes. Finally, based on the exposed length of steel bars and vertical load, the number of blasting holes were calculated. Results shows that the number of blasting holes calculated in this study are suitable for scaled structure models test by blasting demolition.

Length and Weight Relationship for Two Dominant Antarctic Notothenioid Fishes Caught in the Coastal Water off King Sejong Station, King George Island, Antarctica (남극, 킹조지섬, 세종과학기지 연안에 우점하는 남극암치아속 어류 두 종의 길이와 무게의 관계)

  • Length and weight relationship (LWR) for dominant Antarctic fishes was determined in two species of the family Nototheniidae; black rockcod (Notothenia coriiceps) and marbled rockcod (Notothenia rossii). Samples were caught in the offshore sea around King Sejong station located on King George Island, Antarctica in January, 2017. A total of 30 N. coriiceps and 7 N. rossii were caught by fishing rod and hook. Average total length was 266.0 mm for N. coriiceps and 275.4 mm for N. rossii. Average total weight was 283.1g for N. coriiceps and 290 g for N. rossii. In terms of LWR and b value, the results showed that both two species had positive allometries (b>3) in good health. This size information of two dominant Antarctic fishes would be useful for future physiological studies to understand of adaptation mechanism and biological pathway of Antarctic marine organisms.

Fruit Size by Year of Camellia japonica in Korea (동백나무 열매의 연차별 크기 범위)

  • 본 연구는 대한민국 안면도 식재의 동백나무 열매를 연차별로 수집하여 크기 범위의 형질특성을 비교하였다. 열매 길이는 24.1~36.0mm가 74.97%를 차지하였으며, 27.1~30.0mm가 23.47%로서 가장 높은 분포 비율을 나타내었다. 연도별 열매 길이는 2015년과 2017년이 각각 27.1~30.0mm, 2016년이 30.1~33.0mm에서 가장 길었다. 열매 너비 (폭)는 27.1~39.0mm가 74.36%를 차지하였으며, 33.1~36.0mm가 22.90%로서 가장 높은 분포 비율을 나타내었다. 연도별 열매 너비는 2015년과 2016년이 각각 33.1~36.0mm, 2017년이 30.1~33.0mm에서 가장 넓었다. 열매 장폭비는 0.81~1.00%가 64.77%를 차지하였으며, 0.81~0.90%가 33.27%로서 가장 높은 분포 비율을 나타내었다. 연도별 열매 장폭비는 2015년, 2016년, 2017년 모두 0.81~0.90%에서 가장 높았다 따라서 열매는 길이보다 너비 (폭)가 약간 넓은 둥근 모양을 나타내었다. 열매 무게는 5.1~25.0g이 78.31%를 차지하였으며, 15.1~20.0g이 25.37%로서 가장 높은 분포 비율을 나타내었다. 연도별 열매 무게는 2015년, 2016년, 2017년 모두 15.1~20.0g에서 가장 무거웠다. 그리고 열매 형질 사이의 상관관계를 보면 연차별 모두 열매의 너비 (폭)는 길이, 무게와 정의 유의한 상관이 있었다.

Shoot Growth and Fruit Characteristics of 'Soomee' Peach according to Length of Fruit Bearing Branch (결과지 길이에 따른 복숭아 '수미'의 신초 생장 및 과실 특성)

  • We analyzed the correlation among fruit bearing branch (FBB) and shoot and fruit characteristics in order to select the length of FBB suitable for producing high-quality fruits of 'Soomee', a peach tree developed in Korea. The length and diameter of FBB were 26.1 cm and 6.1 mm, respectively, shoot and leaf number per FBB were 3.2 and 38.6, respectively. Of these, the coefficient of variation was very high in the shoots and leaf number. The average weight and soluble solid content (SSC) of fruit were 298.6 g and 12.2 Brix, respectively, and coefficient of variation of the fruit weight was 18.0 %, which was higher than that of SSC. As the FBB of 10-20 cm and 20-30 cm length per tree were 27.1 % and 25.4 %, respectively, the sum of short and middle FBB frequency per tree was more than 50 %. Fruits of 250-350 g and 11.0-13.0 Brix per tree were distributed in 68.6 % and 74.0 %, respectively. As a result of correlation analysis, fruit weight and shoot number were affected by the length of FBB. In particular, length of FBB showed the relation of fruit weight with $y=-0.0482x^2+2.4512x+277.36$. As a result, the length of FBB that can maximize fruit weight was analyzed as 25.4 cm. Therefore, in the filed, the suitable FBB for producing 'Soomee' peach is estimated to be about 20-30 cm.

A Study of Relation Between Bending Radius and Pulling Tension (관로곡률반경과 케이블 포설장력에 관한 연구)

  • 관로에 케이블을 포설할 때에는 최대포설장력(Maximum Pulling Tension Factors)과 허용측압(Sidewall Bearing Pressure)이 고려되어야 한다. 최대포설장력은 케이블의 무게와 관로의 마찰계수에 의해 계산이 되고 관로의 경간에 의해 변화하게 된다. 측압은 관로의 곡률반경, 포설장력, 케이블 무게 등과 직접 관련이 있다. 관로의 곡률반경은 현장에서 도로의 길이와 현의길이, 호의 높이 등을 측정하여 구하기도 하고 도면상에서 계산에 의해 구하기도 한다. 곡률반경과 포설장력, 측압의 관계성을 비교해 보면 포설장력은 곡률반경의 영향을 거의 받지 않지만 측압은 곡률반경의 영향을 크게 받는다. 허용측압이상의 측압이 굴곡부에서 관로와 케이블사이에 발생하면 관로와 케이블이 손상되기 때문에 관로 설계시에는 측압을 반드시 고려하여야 된다.
