  • This study is concerned with the estimation of daily instantaneous maximum wind velocity in the meteorological major cities (selected each 17 points) during the yearly 1973-2016. The purpose of this paper is to present the turbulence statistic characteristics (probability distribution, correlation coefficient, turbulency intensity, shear velocity, roughness length, turbulence integral length, skewness, and kurtosis) of the daily instantaneous maximum wind velocity. In the processes of analysis, used observations data obtained at Korea Meteorological Adminstration (KMA). The estimation of non-Gaussian load effects for design applications has often been treated tacitly by invoking a conventional wind design load on the basis of Gaussian processes. This assumption breaks down when the instantaneous wind velocity processes exhibits non-Gaussianity. From the analysis results, the probability distribution of the daily instantaneous maximum wind velocity shows a very closed with non-Gaussian in the ensemble population 748, the correlation coefficient shows larger at inland area more than coastal area.

  • A point frequency analysis is carried out for the Indogyo site at the Han river using 68 annual maximun flood data for the period of 1918-1992. Computed frequency discharges using the three parameter log-normal, type-I extreme value, type-III extreme value, and Pearson type-III computed as 35,500 m3/sec and 39,000 m3/sec, respectively, 33,500 m3/sec and 37,500 m3/sec of corresponding return periods are computed when the flood control effect of the dams are taken into account. The resulting flood discharge of 37,500 m3/sec is similar to the current design flood of 37,000 m3/sec in downstream reach of Han river, so, it could be desirable to keep the the current design flood, considering the increasing tendency of the flood due to the climate change. Keywords : frequency analysis, flood discharge, Han river.

  • Many efforts will have to be made on securing the stable supply of the energy due to the worldwide trend of controlling the utilization fossil fuels inducing global climate change. Renewable portfolio standard enforced to power companies over 500 MW capacity from 2012. Tidal current energy is one of the most interesting renewable and clean energy resources that have been less exploited. Especially, Korea has worldwide outstanding tidal current energy resources and it is highly required to develop a tidal current energy conversion system(TECS) in coastal region. So, we examine a tidal in-stream energy using a numerical model and estimate a tidal current potential for commercialization of tidal current power plant in the sea of the Bunamgun-do. Available tidal energy resources is also analytically estimated using a tidal farm method and the annual energy production of an optimal TECS arrays will be calculated with taking into account interference of lateral and longitudinal spacing.

  • The climate change and global warming has been a world-wide issue. Also, the green growth has been a widely adopted strategy for national and regional development. In particular, after the Kyoto Protocol to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change was declared, the low carbon society was inevitable phenomenon. The hydrologic cycle in urban catchment has been changed due to the expansion of impervious area by rapid urban development. This paper has examined the Water cycle planning elements for green city in the scale of urban planning as well as site planning including housing site. In this study, the SWMM5-LID (Storm Water Management Model5-LID) model was used to simulate the hydrologic cycle of the test catchment as a typical urban catchment. We performed continuous simulation on urban runoff before and after the development of the test catchment and after the installation of Green city planning Elements.

  • To understand the natural environments and human cultures in the Yellow Sea regions, this paper deals especially the climate and sea level fluctuation in the Yellow Sea and its surrounding region in the period of late Pleistocene (125, 000 yr BP) to Holocene. During the glacial maximum (about 15, 000 yr BP to 18, 000 yr BP), the climate might be cold and arid. These arid climate in the Yellow Sea region did make desertization possible. Possible human culture exchanges between China, Korea and Japan might be carried in a easy way, because the entire basin of the Yellow Sea was exposed as land. Paleoshorelines of the Yellow Sea in the period of 10, 000 yr BP, 9, 000 ry BP and 6, 000 yr BP are presented and sea level fluctuation curve from 37, 000 yr BP (late Pleistocene) to present (late Holocene), for the first time, is presented based on a careful reconsideration of existing old data and recent new data.

  • Kangwondo area is mountainous and landslide happens easily during the rainy period in summer time. Especially, when there is torrential downpour caused by the unusual weather change, there will be greater possibility to see landslide. It is very difficult to analyze and study a natural phenomenon like the landslide because there are so many factors behind it. And the way to conduct the analysis is also very complicated. However, if GIS is used, we can classify and analyze data efficiently by modeling the real phenomenon with a computer. Based upon the analysis on the causes of landslide in the areas where it occurred in the past, therefore, this study shows several factors leading to landslide and contains the GIS database categorized by grade and stored in the computer. In order to analyze the influence of every factor causing landslide, we calculated the rates of weight by AHP and evaluated landslide vulnerability in the study area by using GIS. As a result of such analysis, we found that the forest factor has most potential influences among other factors in landslide.

  • The issue of burden sharing between sectors has become a pertinent national issue with respect tothe establishment of national greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction targets, and the means to achieve these targets. This study explores methods for equitable sectoral allocation to reduce GHGs based on an allocation index taking into account relevant attributes in line with national GHG emissions trends and structures. This paper considered potential for GHG reduction, rate of increase of emissions, and ability to pay as suitable criteria for analysis of each sector. As a result of the analysis, it was found that equitable allocation methods have significantly different burden sharing compared to allocation that considers only potential for GHG reduction. Accordingly, further empirical study on various simulations based on national economic impact will be essential for better policy solutions. This study will contribute to applying national allocation plans in a logical, consistent and transparent manner.

  • Recently, construction of reinforced earth structure using geosynthetics has been increased because it has advantages such as construction efficient, cost effectiveness and appearance aspect against existing gravity or cantilever retaining wall. However due to the climate change in Korea excessive inflow of ground water and surface water from heavy rainfall could affect the stability of reinforced retaining wall seriously. So the discharge capacity of drains should be evaluated by using experimental method in the design of reinforced earth wall. In this study, instead of concrete block used in most of the retaining wall, eco-friendly porous soilbag was used. This paper describes the test method and result of the laboratory testing for determination of discharge capacity utilizing PBDs.

  • As the has been brought out in 1997, many ports pay attention to greenhouse gas emission reduction and try to develop the port as an Green Port. The purpose of this paper is to establish the activities priority for Green Port construction and analysis its efficiency for the port competition. First of all, the activities for Green Port is introduced and showed its characteristics. To analysis these effectiveness for Green Port, the questionnaire survey is done by considering the opinion of port specialists. And by using AHP analysis method, the priority between the port activities is obtained and its effect for Green Port is taken by considering port competitiveness.
