Design of a Thermal Energy Harvesting Circuit With MPPT Control (MPPT 기능을 갖는 열전 에너지 하베스팅 회로)

  • In this paper, with a thermoelectric device using the seebeck effect which generates electromotive force by temperature difference generates electric energy an energy harvesting circuit using MPPT(Maximun Power Point Traking) control is designed. After periodically sampling the open voltage of the thermoelectric device, the 1/2 voltage of open voltage which in a maximum power point is maintained through MPPT control circuit and harvested energy from thermoelectric device is delivered to load through a switch. The proposed thermal energy harvesting circuit is designed with $0.35{\mu}m$ CMOS process and the chip area excluding pads is $1168.7{\mu}m{\times}541.3{\mu}m$.

Numerical Modeling of the Hall Sensor Signal Used in Pulsed Eddy Current Testing and Comparison of Its Characteristics with a Coil Sensor Signal (홀센서를 사용한 펄스와전류탐상 신호의 수치모델링 및 코일센서 신호와의 특성 비교)

  • Pulsed eddy current (PEC) testing signals have typically been obtained from the electromotive force induced in a sensor coil. However, an increasing number of studies have elected to incorporate the Hall plate as a sensor. Thus, accurate numerical modeling of the Hall sensor signal is necessary. In this study, a PEC probe is designed and a numerical modeling program is written so that Hall sensor signals and coil sensor signals can be calculated simultaneously. First, a step current is used as the input current. The predicted Hall sensor signals show similar characteristics to those of the experimental signals reported by other researchers. The characteristics of the two types of signals are then analyzed and compared as the thickness of test object changes. The results show that the Hall sensor signal provides less information for evaluating the thickness of the test object than the coil sensor signal. The response signals from a pulsed input current are also calculated, and it is confirmed that an equivalent reversed signal pattern appeared after the pulse width at both signals.

  • In general, the solar photovoltaic power increases with higher solar insolation. However, the solar cell generation efficiency reduces because the solar cell surface is heated by solar insolation. According to advanced research, with a $1^{\circ}C$ increase in the solar cell surface temperature, the generation efficiency decreases by ~0.5%. To solve this problem, we conducted experiments in which we attempted to reduce the solar cell surface temperature using a water jet spray. In this study, we found the long-term experimental results of increases in solar power generation. The experimental results show a comparison of the site with and without cooling and cleaning equipment being installed. The results of the long-term experiments show that solar photovoltaic power generation is increased by at least 13% up to 19% with cooling and cleaning.

Fabrication of the thermopile using SOI structure (SOI 구조를 이용한 열전쌍열(Thermopile) 제작)

  • In this paper, a thermopile which is applied to wide uses of temperature measuring was fabricated and its characteristic was improved by appling SOI structure to the fabrication. We improved characteristic of the thermopile by using single crystal silicon strips that has high seebeck coefficient and dielectric isolating the silicon strips from substrate with silicon dioxide film which dramatically decrease thermal conductivity between hot and cold junction compared to a silicon strip which was fabricated by ion implantation. The thermopile consists of 17 p-type single crystal silicon strips and 17 n-types by serial connection. The result of electromotive force measuring showed very good characteristic as 130mV/K when temperature difference between the two ends of the thermopile occurs by applying light on the thermopile fabricated with silicon strips of $1600{\mu}m$ length, $40{\mu}m$ width, $1{\mu}m$ thickness.

$CO_{2}$ Gas Sensing Characteristics of Lithium ionic Solid Electrolyte prepared by Sol-gel Method (Sol-gel법에 의한 Li 이온-고체 전해질의 $CO_{2}$ 가스 감지 특성)

  • Lithium ionic solid electrolyte was synthesized at $60^{\circ}C$ in $N_{2}$ ambience by sol-gel method, using tetraethyl orthosilcate, lithium methoxide, zirconium n-propoxide, and tributyle phosphate as precursors. The prepared material was dried and crushed into powder, and it was pressed into disk type samples. These samples were sintered at $900^{\circ}C{\sim}1100^{\circ}C$ for 50 hours. The physical characteristics of the samples were investigated by TG/DTA, SEM, AES and XRD methods. $CO_{2}$ sensor based on lithium ionic solid electrolyte was fabricated and its operational characteristics were measured. The sensing characteristics of the sensor sintered at $1000^{\circ}C$ shows the variation of e.m.f. about $35{\sim}63\;mV/decade$ for the variation of $CO_{2}$ concentration at $200^{\circ}C{\sim}300^{\circ}C$ of operating temperature, and good linearity for $300{\sim}6000\;ppm$.

  • Activity coefficients and solubilities of L-Valine and L-Proline in aqueous solutions containing each of four electrolytes such as NaCl, KCl, $NaNO_3$ and $KNO_3$ were measured at 298.15 K. The measurements of activity coefficients were carried out in the electrochemical cell coupled with two ion-selective electrodes (cation and anion), and the solubilities were measured by the gravimetric analysis of saturated solutions in equilibrium with the solid phase of amino acid. The measured activity coefficients of electrolytes and amino acids were correlated with the theoretical thermodynamic model presented in the previous work [Korean Chem. Eng. Res. 48(4), 519(2010)]. It was found that the activity coefficients of amino acids and electrolytes described based on the our previous model were well agreeable with experimental data. Also the experimental solubility data of L-Valine and L-Proline were successfully correlated with the thermodynamic relation mentioned in the previous work.

A Study on the Measurement of Steel Corrosion in Mortar by TEM Method (TEM법에 의한 모르타르 중의 철근 부식 측정에 관한 연구)

  • Steel, as a reinforcing mechanism in concrete, provides the tensile strength that is lacking in concrete, alone, and the high alkaline environment (pH 12.5) in concrete offers satisfactory protection against most corrosion of the steel. However, the corrosion of reinforcing steel in concrete can occur by chloride attack or carbonation, and it can cause a loss of integrity a section and concrete failure through cracking and spalling. In this study, a transient electro magnetic method (TEM) of a nondestructive technique is adapted to study the measuring method of steel corrosion in mortar. The sensor was made of an enameled wire, with a diameter of 0.25mm and anacril. He sensor configuration used was a coincident loop type. The secondary electro motive force (2nd EMF) was measured with SIROTEMIII, which equipped the accelerator. The accelerator allowsthe transmitter to turn off approximately $10\sim15$ times faster than normal. The high-resolution time series, used for very shallow or a high resistivity investigation was selected. After steels were corroded by the salt spray, during 4, 8, 15 and 25 days, they were embedded in mortar. The content results acquired in this study are as follows. The variation of the secondary electro motive force (2nd EMF) was shown by the change of steel surface with different corrosion time steel. It was confirmed that measurement of steel corrosion in mortar by a transient electro-magnetic method (TEM) can be possible.

The Development of Measuring Method of Coated Steel Corrosion in Mortar by Transient Electro-Magnetic(TEM) Method (과도전자탐사법에 의한 모르타르 중의 코팅 철근의 부식 측정 방법 개발)

  • To study measurement of coated steel corrosion in mortar, a transient electro-magnetic(TEM) method was adapted. The sensors were made of enamelled wire with diameter of 0.25mm(transmitter), 0.1mm(receiver) and the secondary electro motive force(EMF) was measured with SIROTEMIII. The sensors configuration was used as in loop configuration. After coated steels were corroded by the salt spray during 3, 7, 15, 25days, they were embedded in mortar which were made from sand : cement : water ratio of 2 : 1 :0.5. To investigate coated steel corrosion in mortar, the sensors were used. ( sensorl - $T_x$ : $4{\Omega}$, $R_x$ : $10{\Omega}$, $3{times}3cm$, sensor2 - $T_x$ : $8{\Omega}$, $R_x$ : $10{\Omega}$, $3{times}3cm$, sensor3 - $T_x$ : $4{\Omega}$, $R_x$ : $10{\Omega}$, $6{times}6cm$, sensor4 - $T_x$ : $8{\Omega}$, $R_x$ : $10{\Omega}$, $6{times}6cm$). The obtained results showed that the secondary EMF was decreased with specimens of 3, 7days corroded coationg steel in mortar and then increased with specccimens of 15, 25days corroded one. And it was confirmed that measurement of coated steel corrosion in mortar by a transient electro-magnetic(TEM) method is possible.

  • Electrical characteristics of perovskite phases in the BaCe0.9R0.1O3-$\delta$(R=La, Yb and Al) system have been studied. Electrical conductivities of all specimens in air were higher than those in N2 atmosphers between 600 and 100$0^{\circ}C$. When temperature was elevated, the electrical conductivity difference between both atmospheres increased. Electrical conductivity of Yb3+ doped BaCeO3 specimen was higher than those of the La3+ and Al3+ doped specimens. The BaCe0.0Al0.1O3-$\delta$ showed higher proton transference number than both BaCe0.9Yb0.1O3-$\delta$ and BaCe0.9La0.1O3-$\delta$.

Studies on the Standardization of pH Measurement System (pH 측정 시스템의 표준화에 관한 연구)

  • Since the definition of pH, $pH=-Ioga_H$ is based on a single ion activity, pH values can not be determined with measurement itself, but require an approximation method. They are derived from EMF measurement of a liquid junction free cell using hydrogen and Ag/AgCl electrodes. Primary standard materials with certified pH values can be obtained with this approximation method. Standard buffer solutions are used to calibrate pH meters. Thus the accuracy of the pH values of standard buffer solutions limits the reliability of measured pH values can be obtained with this approximation method. To certify the pH values, we have established the system for the primary standard measurement and certified the pH of buffer solutions in the range of 1.6∼12.5 pH unit within uncertainty of ${\pm}0.005$ pH unit.
