  • The purpose of this study is to establish smart signage in a certain space and to analyze not only media ingestion and advertising inducement as well as any information (high vs. low vs. low) and flow level And the memory effect related to whether or not to remember. The results of this study show that the higher the interaction level and the higher the engagement level, the higher the advertising engagement is. In addition, media involvement was high when interaction level was low and flow level was high. Finally, if the level of interactivity is low and the level of flow is high, then non - valued attribution information is more likely to be recalled than the comprehensive evaluation information. If the interaction of smart signage is high and the flow of users is low, Recalled more recall information. In the future, detailed strategies for enhancing user flow will be needed rather than a strategy for unconditional enhancement of interaction in smart signage strategy.

  • It has been known that tensile residual stresses occurring by the thermal expansion coefficient mismatch between fiber and matrix is a cause of the weak strength of metal matrix composites(MMCs). In order to solve this problem, TiNi alloy fiber was used as a reinforced material in TiNi/A16001 shape memory alloy composite in this study. TiNi alloy fiber improves the tensile strength of the composite by causing compressive residual stress in matrix on the basis of its shape memory effect. Pre-strain was imposed to generate the compressive residual stresses inside the TiNi/A16001 shape memory alloy composites. AE technique was used to quantify the microscopic damage behavior of the composite at high temperature. The effect of applied pre-strains on the AE behavior was also evaluated.

  • The development of the knowledge information system is increasing the symptoms that people refuse to remember. There is also a growing debate about whether to remember knowledge. This study investigated the preference of memorizing knowledge and finding knowledge. We predicted the use, effect, and expectation of ease of use of knowledge utilization that will appear in the future among preference groups. We analyzed whether there is a difference between the predicted expectations of knowledge utilization in the future. The first study was conducted in October 2014. This is the second study. We studied what changes were made in comparison with the first study. As a result, it was found that 1) there is no difference in broadening the diversity of knowledge utilization at future time, 2) expectation of the effect of knowledge utilization, and 3) ease of continuous knowledge creation. The results of this study suggest that it is important to provide a basis for discussing whether it is good to remember knowledge.

  • This study investigated the song-induced autobiographical memory of patients with early Alzheimer's Dementia (AD) by comparing the effects of patient-selected songs (M-AD) versus music therapist-selected songs (M-MT). A total of 19 patients with early AD participated in this study. In the M-AD and M-MT conditions, each participant listened to a song and was instructed to recall memory. The time to recall memory, the specificity of the memory, mood changes, and the type of recalled memory were measured. Perceived familiarity and preference of the used songs and association of the song with the recalled memory were also analyzed. The results of the study showed that the M-AD condition elicited more specific memory and positive mood change than the M-MT condition. In addition, AD patients reported a higher level of familiarity with and preference of songs in the M-AD condition, compared to the M-MT condition. These results indicate that patient-selected songs, which have a personal meaning to an individual, could be effectively used for intervening with memory of this population, which would support music therapists to make better decision with regard to song selection. Further studies would be needed to deepen the understanding of autobiographical memory in older population with cognitive impairment and to propose more effective music therapy strategies for intervening with memory.

  • Conventional lead-rubber bearings may be unstable in case of strong ground motions. To address this problem, this paper proposed a new concept of isolation device wherein shape memory alloy wires were incorporated in an elastomeric bearing. A three-span continuous steel bridge was used for seismic analyses to compare the performance of lead-rubber and proposed bearings. The proposed bearings showed almost the same performance as the lead-rubber bearings. In particular, the proposed bearings limited relative displacement effectively with strong ground motions and recovered its original undeformed shape.

  • The present study was conducted to examine the effect of meta-cognitive strategy and transfer appropriate processing(TAP) on prospective memory performance. In two experiments, encoding strategy for PM target words was manipulated by instructions. Participants who were assigned to meta strategic condition were engaged to rate task difficulty(EOL) in addition to predict their own performance(JOL), while participants in cognitive strategy condition were to remember target words by pleasantness ratings and sentence generation. In experiment1 and experiment 2, all participants in both conditions performed not only TAP ongoing task but also TIP ongoing task. Results revealed the benefit of meta cognition and transfer appropriate processing on PM performance. Furthermore, the benefit of TAP was diminished in cognitive strategy condition. There were no-costs on judgement tasks across conditions. The findings suggest that meta-cognition allows to sustain PM targets and intention without regard to cognitive resource.

  • The leaves and roots of Ligularia stenocephala, which are widely used as a food in Korea, were investigated for their antioxidant activities and cytotoxicity in vitro, and their hepatoprotective effect, alcohol detoxicant efficacy, and memory-enhancing property were investigated in vivo. The unique odor of the leaves was analyzed by GC-MS. Lipid peroxidation, superoxide anion formation, and DPPH radicals were inhibited remarkably by the extracts of the leaves and roots. The leaves of this edible plant significantly protected the hepatotoxicity induced by carbon tetrachloride and further diminished the blood alcohol content in mice. While the roots of this plant exhibited adequate cytotoxicity against four human tumor cell lines, especially against melanoma, the leaves revealed relatively weak activity. Both the leaves and the roots exerted an excellent ameliorating property on scopolamine-induced memory impairment in the passive avoidance task using an animal model. The hexane fraction of the leaves was analyzed by GC-MS, suggesting that a series of terpenoids may be odorous compounds in this plant.

  • In this study, adaptation of two-way shape memory effect of SMA wire to the actuator is examined. Therefore the SMA characteristics which are training, material properties, response time at different thermal cycling rates are tested. During training, permanent deformation is accumulated till a certain number of cycle and then saturated. The amount of two-way strain is unchangeable over all cycle and the slope of strain(or stress)-temperature curve is slower as the increase of applied stress. The rate effect is observed resulted from the thermal distribution which heating profile differs from cooling as thermal cycling time. Using the estimated SMA properties, an experimental test for the simple smart wing is performed.

  • Objectives : Cerebral ischemia resulting from transient or permanent occlusion of cerebral arteries leads to neuronal cell death and eventually causes neurological impairments. Scrophulariae radix is the roots of Scrophularia buergeria. In the present study, we investigated the effects of the aqueous extract of Scrophulariae radix on apoptotic cell death in the hippocampal dentate gyrus following transient global ischemia in gerbils. Methods : For this study, step-down avoidance task, terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL) assay, and immunohistochemistry for caspase-3 were performed. Results : The present results showed that apoptotic cell death in the hippocampal dentate gyrus was significantly increased following transient global ischemia in gerbils. Treatment with the aqueous extract of Scrophulariae radix suppressed the ischemia-induced apoptosis in the dentate gyrus and thus facilitated the recovery of short-term memory impairment induced by ischemic cerebral injury. Conclusions : Here in this study, we have shown that Scrophulariae radix has a positive effect on-and possesses protective qualities against ischemia-induced apoptotic neuronal cell death, and it can be used for the treatment of ischemic brain diseases.
