  • This study investigated six teachers who used the lessons utilizing geospatial technologies including GPS and Google Earth. The lessons were designed to ask students to solve problems with the technologies rather than to teach students to just use technology and teachers to function more as a facilitator. Key findings include: (1) The teachers with background and interest in learner-centered teaching were more effective in implementing the lessons with their students while the teachers who were familiar with teacher-centered instruction often reduced learners' roles in the lesson; (2) Generally, students expressed huge interests in the lessons. Changes in attitude and participation toward lessons were more clearly observed from low achievers and passive learners; (3) Key influencing factors in adoption of lessons utilizing geospatial technologies were school culture toward innovativeness, characteristics of school administrators, learning experience of the lessons during the workshops, and support systems for lesson preparation and implementation.

  • In this study, we investigate child-care teachers' perceptions of emerging technologies, with a particular focus on fields connected to the Fourth Industrial Revolution. More specifically, we explore how satisfied child-care teachers are with existing educational tools, whether they are interested in or willing to use the latest technology within child care, and their perceived likelihood of adopting these new technologies within child care sites. A total of 181 directors and teachers working at child care institutions in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province participated in the survey. The findings are as follows: firstly, child-care teachers were moderately satisfied with current teaching methods and their effects; secondly, child-care teachers were not especially interested in emerging technologies; thirdly, although interest in applying the latest technology to child care sites was moderately high, refusal to use this technology was also somewhat high; fourthly, many agreed that this technology would eventually become common. This study is expected to provide useful information to those planning to introduce the latest technology to child care sites and basic data to improve teacher training.

  • This study examines the relationship between teacher-perceived teaching efficacy and happiness and teacher-infant interaction, and analyzes the effect of teaching efficacy and happiness on teacher-infant interaction. The purpose was to reveal that it was an important variable in the quality of action. Frequency analysis and descriptive statistics analysis were conducted for the Korean Children's Panel 7th year (2014) data, and Pearson's moment-moment correlation coefficient was calculated for correlation analysis between variables. Multiple regression analysis was conducted to examine the influence of teachers' teaching efficacy and happiness on teacher-infant and infant-infant interactions. The research results were as follows. First, teachers' teaching efficacy, teacher happiness, teacher-infant, and infant-infant interactions were all found to have significant positive correlations. Second, teachers' teaching efficacy was found to have a significant effect on teacher-infant and infant-infant interactions, and the influence increased when teacher's happiness was added. Therefore, we need to come up with a plan to increase teachers' teaching efficacy and teacher happiness at the same time so that the quality of teacher-infant and infant-infant interactions can be meaningfully improved.

  • This study aims to investigate the effects of the ENACT project on promoting pre-service science teachers (PSTs)' views on the social responsibility of scientists and engineers. The ENACT project was designed to cultivate the social responsibility by integrating the theoretical framework of socioscientific issues (SSIs) education with problem-based inquiry approaches for the resolution of the issues. Thirty-two PSTs voluntarily participated in the project and completed the five stages over three months. Data was collected through a questionnaire to measure PSTs' view of the social responsibility of scientists and engineers (VSRoSE) and focus-group interviews. Results indicate that the PSTs presented statistically significant changes in their views of the social responsibility after the ENACT project. The mean scores of the five sub-dimensions of VSRoSE significantly increased. The interviews also supported that the PSTs had opportunities to seriously consider the social responsibility of scientists and engineers through epistemological exploration of science and technology (Cycle I), and problem-solving and action-taking (Cycle II). In particular, they agreed more on such responsibilities as consideration of societal needs and demands, pursuit of the common good, civic engagement and services using their expertise, communications with the public regarding potential risks, and participation in policy decision-making related to science and technology advances. Educational implications for SSI education and teacher education were suggested.

  • The purpose of this study was to understand the structural relationships of the kindergarten teachers' role performance with the teaching efficacy and job stress. To achieve the research goal, this study conducted a survey targeting a total of 300 teachers, vice principals and principals working for infant educational institutes located in Gyeonggi-do, and analyzed 253 copies of the survey in total. The study used a structural equation to design a structural equation-based model to look into the structural relationships related to the role performance with the teaching efficacy and job stress. The collected data was then analyzed by AMOS 18.0 to estimate the correspondence and the parameter of the model. According to the results of the analysis, the role performance of kindergarten teachers was observed to have an immediate influence on the teaching efficacy. The role performance of kindergarten teachers was directly connected to job stress. The job stress had an indirect relationship with the role performance of kindergarten teachers through the teaching efficacy. The teaching efficacy of the kindergarten teachers was confirmed to have immediate association with the job stress of infant teachers.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine a preservice elementary mathematics teacher's beliefs and stated-actions in which she planned and implemented mathematical activities in a field experience within a mathematics methods course. Results show that the preservice teacher seemed to be dealing with conflicts and trying to resolve them in order to make sense to herself. Results also suggest that the preservice teacher's beliefs about how children learn seem to get confirmed through the field experiences so that she was able to articulate, which influence her experience of focusing on an individual child. This, in turn, induces her to elaborate her beliefs. These processes would explain her beliefs and actions as a sensible system.
