Analysis of the "Clothing Life" Section of the Technology and Home Economics textbook in the middle school curriculum revised in 2015 (2015년 개정 교육과정에 따른 중학교 기술·가정 교과서의 의생활 영역 분석)

  • This study aims to provide an understanding and information of the new curriculum by comparing 12 kinds of Technology and Home Economics textbooks(Clothing Life section) that reflect the 2015 revised. Results revealed that most of the textbooks' unit arrangements consisted of the introduction, development, and summary. In addition, we examined the advantages of current textbooks and suggested future improvement directions. The analysis of volume revealed that the largest textbook was 38 pages and the smallest was 24 pages. In addition, the learning objectives by unit a little bit differed for each textbook. The illustrations in the textbooks were primarily figures followed by photographs, tables, and graphs. The number of textbooks with the largest amount of illustrations was 69 and those with the least were 38, indicating a significant difference. As for career, 8 textbooks of 12 textbooks reflected related contents. The number of units, volumes of the clothing life section, and ratio of illustrations used in each textbook were different, but the contents were similar. Most of the contents of the 2009 textbooks are mostly included and the meaning of clothing, clothing purchasing, dress code, and creative clothing life are added on 2015 revised textbooks. Furthermore the educational objectives have extended to wide range and provides concrete guidelines to foster human resources that will lead the future society.

A Study on the Illustrations of Male and Female on the Middle School 「Technology·Home Economics」 Textbooks from the Gender Equality Perspective (양성평등 관점에서 본 중학교 「기술·가정」 교과서의 남녀 삽화 연구)

  • This study reviewed the Technology & Home Economics Education textbooks to examine if their illustrations would be appropriate for students' balanced view of gender. To this end, the textbooks of 'Technology & Home Economics Education 1 and 2' from 12 publishers (24 books in total) were analyzed focusing on the formative and content characteristics of illustrations in the textbooks. The results of this study is as follows. There were areas in the textbooks that may not be considered gender-equal. Although the textbooks have been improved to some extent from the previous versions, they still show gender stereotypes biased towards men. If students are constantly exposed to the prescriptive characteristics that are in favor of certain gender, they would find it difficult to develop their personality strengths, due to the gender role pressures. In order to help students cultivate sensitivity and activism toward the gender equality issues, it is important that the textbooks are gender-equal. To summarize, in order to suggest to students a balanced image of society with male and female cooperating with each other in diverse domains, it is deemed necessary to constantly examine and revise the textbooks for their gender stereotypic contents, and thereby, improve them for gender equality.

  • 현대 산업사회는 하루가 다르게 발전하고 있으며 사람들은 새로운 기술에의 대응에 쫓기며 살아가고 있다. 특히 전기공학 분야는 다른 어느 분야에 못지 않게 그 속도가 빠르다고 할 수 있을 것이다. 한편 전문인력을 양성하는 대학에 있어서는 그 교과과정에 있어서 커다란 변화가 불가피하다. 따라서 거의 대부분의 대학에서 정기적으로 교과과정을 개편하고 있으므로 전국적으로 각 대학의 교과과정 현황을 알아보는 것은 의의가 클 것으로 생각된다. 본 특집을 위하여 전기학회에서는 지난 8월 각 대학에 교육현황에 관한 설문서를 의뢰한 바 있다. 10월초 현재 교과과정에 대한 자료만 14개 대학으로부터 얻을 수 있었으며 개인적으로 5개 대학의 자료를 추가하여 모두 19개 대학의 교과과정 자료를 모을 수가 있었다. 이제 이들 자료를 정리, 분석한 결과를 소개하기로 한다.

Analysis on the Technology Elements for Game Software Major Curriculum (게임소프트웨어전공 교과목 편성을 위한 기술요소 분석)

  • In this paper, we characterize and analyze the technology elements and their hierarchy for the college graduating students performing capstone design projects in a game software major. When graduating students in a game software major must make a game for graduation, they need to know the pertinent technologies and their hierarchy. Technology analysis for game making would mean for students to recognize how the low level technologies taught in freshman and sophomore periods are linked to the high level technologies taught in junior and senior periods. Also, the analysis would help the professors design the game software major curriculum in detail based on the levels and the hierarchy of the individual technologies.

Analysis of 'Basic Information Technology' Textbooks in Technical High Schools (공업계 고등학교 '정보 기술 기초' 교과서의 분석)

  • In this paper, both content analysis and Romey analysis were employed to analyze 'Basic Information Technology' textbooks in technical high schools. Not only was the content analysis employed to study the organization and contents of the textbooks, but also the Romey analysis was applied so as to determine inquisitive tendency on four factors - text, data, activity and evaluation. The results from content analysis showed that the total number of pages, reading material, the number of concepts introduced in each section, and the use of application software demonstrated a discrepancy among textbooks. Also, Romey analysis showed that while the section 'text' was written with relatively low inquiry tendency for its authoritative tone, two textbooks showed high inquisitive tendency for section 'activity'. Finally, based on the obtained results, the ways to improve 'Basic Information Technology' textbooks were proposed.

A study on the digital textbook acceptance by application of Chasm Theory and Technology Acceptance Model (캐즘이론과 정보기술수용모형을 적용한 디지털 교과서 수용 연구)

  • This study was conducted to identify factors that influenced teachers' adoption of digital textbooks and causal relationships among the factors identified. Chasm theory was used in developing strategies for adoption of digital textbooks that consider teachers' innovativeness. This study also employed the information technology adoption model of Davis (1989) that illustrates decision making processes for the adoption of instructional media such as digital textbooks. Based on these two theories, a measurement instrument measuring teachers' innovativeness, perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, and intention of use was developed and validated through a series of reliability and validity tests. Causal relationships among the factors were examined using structural equation modeling. The result indicated that: a) perceived ease of use had a directional effect on perceived usefulness and an indirect effect on intention of use; and b) perceived usefulness had a direct effect on intention of use. Implications of this finding are discussed especially for the efforts in developing strategies for teachers' adoption of digital textbook. For example, when digital textbooks are introduced into public schools, teachers' perception of the usefulness of digital textbooks, beyond just ease of use, should be considered.

An Analysis on Occupational Content in the Technology & Home Economics Textbooks of High School (고등학교 기술·가정 교과서의 직업 내용 분석)

  • This study analyzed content of and recognition on occupations shown from Technology Home Economics textbooks of the high school elective subject having a higher connection with the career development capability for the occupational world as shown from a curriculum analysis. Hence, this study selected 3 kinds of high school Technology Home Economics textbooks with a higher share from 6 in the 2007 revised curriculum and analyzed a frequency by characteristic of occupational content and recognition on description of a occupation. Content analyzed by researchers was examined by 2 school teachers to ensure the validity and objectivity of research findings. Research findings show that there is a great deal of frequency difference in occupations suggested by publisher and unit in the Technology Home Economics subject. Also suggestion frequency of the occupational classification by level from Korean standard industrial classification did not correspond to an actual situation of employment. Occupation names suggested from textbooks occupied 3.3% of those by Korean Occupation Dictionary, showing a higher suggestion ratio at occupations preferred by adolescents. In the textbooks, occupations were suggested from reading materials, photos and illustrations more than from texts. Recognition on descriptions of occupations showed for the most part the neutral(82.8%) and the positive16.2%)', and there was no biased intention even from some negative cases(1.0%). Based on research findings, this research has significance in that it suggested things to be considered for teaching career development capability in the high school Technology Home Economics subject and need for cultivating teachers' specialty to understand occupations and instruct career development. It also suggested improvements to be required for a new curriculum textbook.

A Study on the Design of Metadata Elements in Textbooks (교과서 메타데이터 요소 설계에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to design textbook metadata as a basic task for building a textbook database. To this end, reading textbooks were defined as a category of textbooks, and a metadata development methodology was established through previous research. In order to ensure that bibliographically essential elements are not omitted, the catalog description elements of institutions that collect, accumulate, and service textbooks such as the National Library of Korea were investigated. The elements of Dublin Core, MODS, and KEM were mapped to derive elements suitable for describing textbooks. Finally, a set of textbook metadata elements consisting of 14 elements in three categories - bibliography, context, and textbook characteristics were presented by adding publication type, genre, and curriculum period elements. The 14 elements are titles, authors, publications, formats, identification sign, languages, locations, subject names, annotation, genres, table of contents, subjects, curriculum period, and curriculum information. In this study, we contributed to this field by discussing how to organize textbook resources with national knowledge resources, and in future studies, we proposed to evaluate usability by applying metadata elements to actual textbooks and revise and supplement them according to the evaluation results.

Content Analyses of Housing Area in :Middle School Technology.Home Economics Textbooks by 2007 Revised Curriculum (2007년 개정 교육과정 중학교 기술.가정 교과서 주생활영역의 교육내용 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the contents of housing area in Technology Home Economics textbooks of the 2007 revised curriculum which was published in 2011. The structure and the contents of housing area which are consisted of housing/living environment and use of housing space were analyzed. This study aims to examine the changes in the newly revised textbooks as well as suggesting advice for the more improved revised one in the future. For this purpose, this study employed 11 different textbooks and the results were the followings: each textbook had different quantity of pages dedicated to housing area but commonly had the wide range of terminology, plentiful amount of tables/diagrams, reading and activity materials sufficient to have students to carry out in practice. Also, the newly added contents of local area and eco-friendly life are analyzed to be well reflecting the 2007 revised curriculum. In future textbook development, it will be important that the issue of low birth rate, population ageing and green-life to be included as well as emphasizing the content of the network within the local area in order to actively prepare for the environmental issues.
