Finless porpoise is the one of porpoises in Korean waters that frequently observed in the coastal area. This study reported parasite infection cases of stranded finless porpoise, Neophocaena asiaeorientalis which was stranded on the Saemangeum Dyke on the west coast of Korea 21 May, 2012. The finless porpoise was male, and estimated at 8 years old. Parasites were found in abdominal cavity, skull and lung. The parasites were identified as nematode, trematoda and lungworm. Nematoda in abdominal cavity was Crassicauda sp. Trematoda found in the skull was indentified Nasitrema sp. Lungworm in lung seemed one of genus Pseudaliids. Anisakis spp. has not been found.
The prevalence of intestinal parasites and CLonorchis sinensis infection was observed among inhabitants in the upper stream of Kumgang (River) from Junuary to October 1991. A total of 743 fecal specimens was examined by cellophane thick smear and formalin-ether concentration technique. The parasite positive rate including helminth eggs and protozoan cysts was 40.8%, the positive rates for every species were: Clonorchis sinensis 30.8%, Metqgonimur app. 14.5%, Fosciolc spry. 0.7%, Tqsnia app. 1.5%, Asccris lumbricoides 0.4%, Enterobius vermicularis 0.1%, Hookworm 0.1%, Trichuris kichiura 1.6%, Entamoeba coli 0.7%, E. histolytica 0.3%, Endolimox nana 0.3%, Giardia lamblia 0.3% and lodamoebc buetschlii 0.1%, respectively. The cumulative positive rate in Okchon-gun showed 51.1%, in the Kumsan-gun 50.8% and in the Muju-gun 28.6%. Through this survey, it was concluded that the soil transmitted intestinal parasites including helminthseggs and protozoan cysts have been decreased remarkably among the inhabitants along the upper stream of Taechong Dam, Kum-gang (River), on the other side, Clonorchis sinensis, Metogonimw app. and Tuenin sap. are still inorderate prevalent. Key words: Intestinal parasites, Clonorchis sinensis, Metogonimus app. Fasciolc sup. Kumgang (River).
Fecal samples of cats purchased in Seoul were examined for helminth ova or protozoan oocysts from December 1987 to March 1988. Out of the 41 samples,31 (75.6%) were positive and 60 (146.3%) were cumulative positive for parasites. The followings were identified In the samples: Eggs of Toxocarn cacti. Clonorchis sinensis, Metoeonimn sp., Phnrvngostomum cordntum, Spirometra erinocei, Tcenia toenicejormis and oocysts of Isosporn sp. From nine autopsied cats, larvae of Anisakis simplex, adults of C. sinensis, M. yokogawai. P cordatum, S. erinacei and T. tqeniaejormis were identified. This is the first report on the detection of Anisakis larvae from cats In Korea. The possible role of cats as a source of human infection with each parasite was discussed. Key words: Cat, intestinal parasite, Anisckis simplex, Toxoccra cati, Clonorchis sinensis, Metagonimus yokogawai. Spirometro erinccei, Taenic tonniaelormis, Isospora Sp .
We examined stools of 113 soldiers of Korean Army in Whachon-gun, Korea in 1992. The eggs of Clonorchis sinetris (71113) and Metqsonimw sp. (31113), and cysts of Ginrdia lomblic (41113) were detected. No eggs of soil-transmitted helminths were found. Most of the CLonorchis-infected soldiers (6171 were recruited from Kyongsangnam-do.

To evaluate biochemical safety of gejang distributed in Korea, 33 samples were collected and analyzed for indicator microorganisms, pathogen, parasite, pH, volatile basic nitrogen(VBN), salinity, 3-MCPD, histamine, and synthetic food colors. Total plate counts of gejang were the range of 3 to 7 log cfu/g and coliform were the range of ND to 4 log cfu/g. Vibrio parahaemolyticus was detected from 4 samples, and Escherichia coli(1 log cfu/g) and copepoda were detected from 1 sample among those. pH and VBN value of samples were the range of 6.69 to 8.10 and 21.99 to 94.55 mg%, respectively. The ranges of salinity concentration for ganjang chamgejang, ganjang ggokgejang, and ganjang dolgejang were $11.6{\sim}32.6%,\;2.8{\sim}20.5%$, and $11.6{\sim}13.3%$, respectively. But, the range of salinity concentration of yangnum gejang was $2.6{\sim}9.4%$, which was lower than ganjang gejang. Besides, 3-MCPD, histamine and synthetic food colors were not detected. From the results, most of gejang was appropriate for Korea national standard for food regulation, but still biological hygiene control for raw materials, processing, and distribution should be improved.
Ascariasis is the most common helminthic infection in humans. However, its prevalence has been very low in Korea since the 1990s. Recently, there have been several case reports on intestinal obstruction or pancreaticobiliary disease due to infection with Ascaris lumbricoides in adults. However, cases of ascariasis in children have rarely been reported in Korea. We report a case of ascariasis in a 2-year-old boy who experienced expulsion of an adult ascaris worm from his anus. His mother found the worm in his diaper in the morning. His medical history was nonsignificant for any previous illnesses. There were no specific symptoms, and no abnormal findings were found on physical examination. The worm was pink, elongated, and cylindrical; it was 25 cm long and 5 mm wide. Unfertilized eggs of A. lumbricoides were detected in his stool specimen. He was treated with albendazole and remained asymptomatic at follow-up. As long as the number of immigrants from endemic areas and people returning from overseas trips, and import of agricultural products keep increasing, ascariasis can still occur in Korea. Therefore, it is necessary to raise awareness regarding ascariasis.

The estuary of the Han River constantly suffers from pollutants and pathogenic microorganisms which could cause serious damage to aquatic organisms living there. Despite of this potential risk, it is hard to find any reliable scientific reports on the status of reportable disease infection to the organisms living in this area. In this study, cyprinid fish and crustaceans in Jeonryu-ri, a region of the Han River estuary, were investigated for the infection by representative reportable communicable diseases(SVC, spring viraemia of carp; KHVD, koi herpesvirus disease; EUS, epizootic ulcerative syndrome; WSD, white spot disease) and parasites. Peripheral fish and primary freshwater fish were observed in Jeonryu-ri with cyprinid caught most frequently. Crustaceans were mostly marine species. No positive bands to any of the reportable diseases were produced in any of the fish and crustacean examined in this study by PCR. No trace of Clonorchis sinensis, a liver fluke potential threat to human health, was detected in any of fish samples. However, many fish were infected by metacecaria of other flukes, and other various parasites such as nematode, cestode, copepod, monosite and acanthocephalan. These results suggest that important aquatic organisms in the Han River estuary is not seriously polluted yet. However, it is important to keep monitoring the diseases since the water quality in this region is constantly changing, and devastating influence of infectious diseases is unpredictable. Further, it is required to expand monitoring area toward upstream and increase the number of fish for examination.
A case of gastric anisaklasis due to the larva of Pseunotewqnova decipiens was confirmed by gastroendoscoplc examination In April 23, 1991. The patient, residing In Pusan, was a 42-year-old housewife, who complained of severe epigastric pawn and recalled that the symptom suddenly attacked her about 6 hours after eating raw Sebqstes inermis. In the gastroendoscopic examination performed about 9 hours after the onset of the symptom, a long whitish nematode larva penetrating the gastric mucosa in the greater curvature of mid-body was found and removed with a biopsy forcep. The nematode was $29.73{\times}0.94mm$ in size, had an intestinal cecum reaching over mfd-level of the ventnculus and was identified as the 4th stage larva of f decfpiens.

We examined the cause of a disease outbreak in rainbow trout Oncorhynchus mykiss, which were adapting to a seawater in an aquaculture farm in Jeju on April, 2013. Most of the diseased fish showed a severe ulcer on the skin, enlarged spleen, expanded stomach and hemorrhage of abdominal and pyloric region. Although no parasites, fungi or viruses were isolated from diseased fish, over 200 same bacterial colonies were isolated from liver, spleen and kidney. Nucleotide sequences of the 16S rDNA gene of the bacterium in this study showed 100% identity with Vibrio anguillarum. This study is the first report of V. anguillarum infection in rainbow trout during sea adaption in Korea.

Two-month old male Shih Tzu weighing 2.1 kg was presented with alopecia in black-haired areas of the skin. The hair loss had been present since five weeks of age. There was no history of pruritus on any part of the body. No other symptoms had been recognized. Physical examination found no abnormalities other than hair loss. Skin examination showed marked alopecia of black-haired area of the body. The white areas appeared to have hair growth of normal density and texture. Affected pigmented areas showed no evidence of skin lesions. Skin scraping and fungal culture were negative. Microscopic examination of plucked black hairs showed marked pigment clumping in the remnants of the follicles and were mainly in telogen phase. But white hairs were normal in various stages of hair growth. The diagnosis of black hair follicular dysplasia was made based on the history, alopecia of the pigmented areas, the confinement of abnormalities to dark areas, and the normal unpigmented areas.
