  • This is the first report of Trachinotus blochii (Perciformes: Carangidae) from Korea. Single specimen (89.8 mm SL) was collected by seine fishing from the coastal waters of Busan on 13 September, 2023 and two specimens (29.53~30.78 mm SL) were collected by scoop net from Jejudo Island, Korea. This species is distinguishable from the most similar species, Trachinotus blochii as follows: it has the no black spots (vs. black spots in T. baillonii), 21~25 dorsal fin rays (vs. 18~20), and 20~24 anal fin rays (vs. 16~18). In order to confirm their taxonomic status, their mitochondrial DNA cytochrome c oxidase subunit I sequences were obtained and compared with those of carangid species recorded in the NCBI database. As a result, it was perfectly matched to T. blochii, and differed from T. baillonii (genetic distance=5.46%). We propose a Korean name, "Mu-jeom-mae-ga-ri", for the species.

  • The ultramafic serpentine area, the small size of 3 km2, remains in Andong, South Korea. We researched the ecological flora and its structure through the 12 times field investigations from 2013 till 2018. A total of 527 taxa including the previously recorded species-list was analyzed. Among them, 331 taxa were filed up as a real flora of the serpentine area. On the vegetation land-cover map describing a characteristic aspect of species distribution, a matrix of the sparse forest by Pinus densiflora and the grassland patches were the main landscape. The study area was acknowledged as a home for the ethnobotanical species and grassland components, and clearly distinctive from the non-serpentine area. The original habitat was too deteriorated by introducing the non-site soils and exotic plants. Conclusionally a designation of a protected area and the long-term ecological monitoring were requested.

  • Two species, Psettina tosana and Pseudorhombus oculocirris, were collected firstly off the Saryang Island, South Sea of Korea. P. tosana is clearly distinguished from its related species, P. gigantea and P. iijimae, in having 9~10 pectoral fin rays, fewer number of lateral line scales, colorless snout region, and no gill rakers on the upper limb of gill arch. P. oculocirris much differs from P. pentophthalmus in having flattish and free rays of anterior dorsal fin, lots of scales in the lateral line, and tubular anterior nostril with flap on ocular side only.

  • Objectives : This study developed an iPad-based animation for an electronic informed consent to directly help patients prepare an informed consent. The goal was to raise patients' understanding about the contents contained in a DNR informed consent in the current medical situation in which DNR informed consents are mostly written by a guardian. Methods : The development of a DNR electronic informed consent was done in 3 stages: analysis, design and development. The analysis stage was done with a survey on the real status of preparing a DNR informed consent in a medical institution. The design stage was done with the contents in the DNR electronic informed consent through a primary and secondary Delphi survey. The development stage created a DNR electronic informed consent and evaluated it through a tertiary Delphi survey. Results : After evaluating the appropriateness of the composition of the contents, the understanding of the contents, the convenience of use, the reflection of an expert opinion, and the suitability of the application, all had scores higher than 4 points. Conclusions : The results of this study show that our proposed DNR electronic informed consent can help patients better understanding the contents of a DNR informed consent.

  • The taxonomic review of the family Triglidae was made based on the specimens collected from the south-western coasts of Korea from 1986 to 1999. The family Triglidae from Korea was classified into 10 species belonging to 3 genera: Pterygotrigla hemisticta, Chelidonichthys kumu, Lepidotrigla, japonica. L. guentheri, L. alata, L. kishinouyei, L. kanagashira, L. microptera, L. hime and L. abyssalis. Of them, L. kanagashira was reported for the first time in South Sea of Korea. A key to species of the family Triglidae from Korea was provided, with description of their morphological characteristics and their distribution.

  • The investigation of the fishes was conducted based on the specimens from the Wooi-Islands, southern west coast of Korea in August, 1998. The fishes were composed of 25 species and 22 genera belonging 15 families. Among them, the gobiid fishes composed of 6 species and the combtooth blennies of 3 species. The gobiid fishes, Chasmichthys dolichognathus, Tridentiger trigonocephalus and Synechogobius hasta were most commonly found in the intertidal area of these islands. One specimen collected from tidepool at tentatively identified as Abudefduf bengalensis of the family Pomacentridae for the first time from Korea. This species was characterized by having seven black bars on the trunk of body. A new Korean name "Huk-jul-dom" is proposed for this species.

  • Three species of Coitocoecum, C. orthorchis, C. latum and C. glandulosum were found from the marine fish of the Korean southern sea. Among them, C. latum and C. glandulosum were reported for the first time in Korea, and Acanthopagrus schlegeli was recorded as a new host species for C. glandulosum. Two species, C. acanthogobium and C. koreanum, reported by Park (1939) were treated as synomyms of C. orthorchis.

These two species are discovered for the first time from Korea and redescribed with illustrations. The description was based on the observation of living specimens, protargol impregnated specimens and biometric analysis. They are distinguished from congeneric species by their following characteristics : 4 frontal cirri in H. multistylata and 7-8 in H. sylvatica, 3 buccal cirri in H. multistylata and 1 in H. sylvatica, 3 dorsal kineties in H. multistylata and 5 in H. sylvatica.

  • Acanthochondria spirigera is redescribed based on the specimens recovered from the Lophiomus setigerus in the southern coast of Korea. This parasitic copepoda is distinguished from congeners by the possession of spirally twisted egg-strings. Acanthochondria spirigera(Chondracanthidae, Poecilostomatoida) is the first recorded species from Korea. This parasitic copepod was not found on the fish in May. Relative density and prevalence also decreased from January to May. A. spirigera live symbiotically within the pharyngeal cavity of the L. setigerus, and eat oesophageal mucous string of their hosts. The male of the parasitic copepoda is dwarf, and found on the ventral surface of genital segment of the female.
