  • When impacts by falling objects are applied to the structures, vertical resisting member(column or column group) results in progressive collapse. By knowing clearly load-deformation relationship of a structural frame, to prevent progressive collapse by absorbing potential energy of falling objects though column groups are lost by the impact of falling object accidently. If residual strength in vertical direction exceeds vertical load, which the sum of the weight of falling objects and usual supportive vertical load as the result of absorbing released location energy, it does not result in progressive collapse. On the other hand, in case when weight of falling objects is included in usual supportive vertical load. In this paper, 1-story 4-spans model is analyzed by non-linear FEM and to examine the level of deterioration, limit analysis of 1-story 4-spans plane frame was carried out.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the strength and ductility improvement of columns retrofitted by steel-fiber composite plate. Test specimens strengthened by three different materials - steel plate(SP), carbon fiber sheet(CF) and fiber-steel composite plate(CP) - were tested under cyclic lateral load with a constant axial load equal to $20\%$ of the axial compression capacity. The structural capacity of composite plate was good or better than that of other retrofitting materials. Test results from all retrofitted specimens showed that considerably higher retrofitting amount was required for strength enhancement. The ductility of retrofitted columns by composite plate was fairly improved. Also, energy ductility ratio was more effective than displacement ductility ratio for ductility estimation of retrofitted column.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the utility of concretefilled steel tubular column to H-beam connections with tubular stiffener. As a preliminary step. a tensile experiment was undertaken to scrutinize characteristics of the structural behavior that take place between beam flanges and column with tubular stiffener. A total of 4 types of experimental settings were developed as tabular stiffeners are made up 9, 18, and 27 mm of thickness and 50 and 80 mm of height respetively Along with the overall load subsequently the degree of displacement and strain were recorded. Based on the yield line theory results of this of this study were evaluated and further critically reviewed the applicability of the strength formula. This study found that collapse mechanism was emerged on the beam flange as reinforcing tabular stiffeners Complementary studies of this sort, including numerical analyses should be undertaken in order to develope specific design critera.

  • The failure modes of steel column-base plate connection arranged on the basis of AISC Design Guide-#1 and -#10 are base plate tension and compression side flexural yielding, yielding, pull-out and shear failure of anchor rod, concrete crushing in concrete footing and steel column yielding. The bending moment capacity and failure mode in this connection are predicted using limit-state function and we compare these results and test result. In the case that thickness of base plate is relatively thick, bending moment capacity and failure mode in steel column-base plate connection accurately predicted. But in the case that thickness of base plate is relatively thin and axial force do not exist, prediction of failure mode in this connection is somewhat inaccurate.

  • In this study, experimental research was carried out to evaluate steel reinforced ECC (Engineered Cementitious Composites) column, which exhibits excellent crack control property and highly ductile behavior. Ordinary portland cement and high volume fly ash were used as binding materials in the mixture proportions for the purpose of achieving a high level of multiple cracking property with the tightly controlled crack width. To compare with the cyclic behavior of steel reinforced ECC column specimen, a conventional reinforced concrete column was prepared and tested under reversed cyclic loading condition. Based on the cyclic load test, ECC column exhibited higher cyclic behavior, compared to the conventional RC column, in terms of load carrying capacity and energy dissipation capacity.

  • This paper is concerned with a theoretical study on the local load-carrying capacities of Concrete-Filled Circular Tubular(CFCT) column to H-beam connections by yield line theory. In this paper, the three cases which are assumed the yield line are involved. The first model is a simplified yield line model. The second model is modified by x and kx factors. The last one is a Morita's model. The local load-carrying capacities of CFCT column to H-beam connections has been studied both experimentally and theoretically using the yield line theory. The purpose of this paper is to suggest the basic data for developing the non-diaphragm connection.

  • The object of this study was a cold-formed steel wall stud panel sheathed by gypsum boards. In the beam-analysis, the panel was treated as a simple beam with a uniform lateral loading. The deflections were calculated by considering the primary factors that reduced the stiffness of the panel. In the column-analysis, the panel was treated as a bearing wall with an axial load. By using an energy method, nominal axial strength could be evaluated by considering both flexural buckling and torsional-flexural buckling. All calculations were programmed and compared with the results of the experiment. In the beam-analysis, experimental deflections were close to theoretical deflections. In the column-analysis, the experimental values were also close to theoretical values in axial strength.

  • As building structures become higher and longer-spanned these days, welding fabrication may become more and more difficult as the thickness of the plate increases. The use of high-strength steel is one of the solutions to reduce membrane thickness. Using high-strength steel would reduce the size of the column, which is under high axial load. Performance tests of high-strength box-type and H-shaped welded columns subjected to the combined bending and axial compressive load were carried out with variable axial load and slenderness ratio. Beam-column test results showed that the ultimate strength satisfied both ASD and LRFD codes

  • High-strength concrete has demonstrated characteristics of both increased strength and enhanced durability; hence its use has become more and more widespread. But, due to the lack of experimental evidance on the seismic performance of frame members constructed with high-strength concrete, the current codes of their design provisions are based on normal concrete test. The purpose of this study is to compare the response of the high-strength concrete beam-column-slab subassemblies with the response of a normal-strength concrete specimens. Four assemblies $(f_c'=240kg/\textrm{cm}^2, f_c'=700kg/\textrm{cm}^2)$ with 2/3 scale were designed and tested to investigate seismic behavior.
