  • The purpose of this study is to analyze user-generated rules in online games and to define the way of players' identities are developed. This study focuses on the online game League of Legends, which originated from use map system. Based on rule theory, this study analyzes the characteristics of user-generated rules. As the result, this study proves that the main rule of online game is not the rules made by developers, but the emergent rules made by players. Through rule-detection and rule-selection process, user-generated rules change the game system. Therefore, the result of this study expects to show meaningful roles of players in game system.

  • This study examines the possibility of development into a place of existential human meaning and the process of formation of placeness based on the Simulacre theory of digital game space. First of all, the game space related to humans was reinterpreted into the Simulacra theory of Plato, Jean Baudrillard, and Gilles Deleuze, and typified into three simulacra of spaces. The formation process of placeness in the game space is presented by linking the simulacra of space, place theory, and the user's game experience that were reinterpreted. It is hoped that this will contribute to exploring the aspect of the placeness of digital game spaces for authentic experiences of various media.

  • With the rise of the game industry, the importance of the game's storytelling is also increasing. Delivering a specific world view of a game has a tremendous effect on the immersion of the game, so the method of delivering a story needs to be studied continuously. In this study, the character was implemented using 3D modelling tool, and the initial story of the game was delivered through a dialogue window using a game engine. Through the research, we were able to establish a workflow for telling stories using a character and understand each process in depth, which we expect to be the basis for more sophisticated game character development and smooth storytelling in the future.

While the online game market continues to expand, with many new online game publishers entering the market, relatively little is known about which factors are strategically important for successful development of online games. A conceptual framework is proposed, and a structural equation modeling, for Identifying the factors affecting the market success of online games, is developed. The concept of online game community, idea generation, systematic development strategy, flexible development process, utilizing demo-version, outsourcing, etc, are ail introduced into the model, as the independent variables affecting the success level of online games directly and indirectly. Based on data collected from questionnaire survey, the validity of the model has been tested and interesting conclusions have been developed concerning the relationships between these variables. Statistical results show that utilizing online game community and system atic development strategy is the key for successful online game development. Other interesting results concerning game development strategy are also provided. It is hoped that this result might provide the useful guidelines for developing the successful online game contents. With a better understanding of key success factors, online game developers should be able to make adjustments in their development and marketing plans, providing them with a sustainable advantage over their competition.

  • This study analyzed user experience elements with healing game characteristics in eight horticultural games based on Lazro's theory of four fun elements, aiming to use horticultural treatment effects as basic data for horticultural game design. The games were found to be developed around "Serious Fun" and "Easy Fun," with "Hard Fun" and "People Fun" also included. Healing games including horticultural activities were highly linked to actual horticultural activities, resulting in horticultural treatment effects. Future studies will design horticultural healing games and verify their effects based on these results.
