Development A Standard of Traffic Signal Controller and Expectations of Standardization (교통신호제어기 표준 규격 개발)

  • As of March 2005, the standard of traffic signal controllers became effective. The standard presents specifications and functions of a traffic signal controller which collects traffic information, sends it to the traffic control center, and controls traffic signal with adequate traffic signal timing provided by the traffic control center. Since the controllers by the previous standard lack parts compatibility and have different control functions and communication protocol, the maintenance cost has been increased. Also, some important functions like conflict detection have not worked out perfectly. To overcome these disadvantages, first of all, this standard secures hardware compatibility. Conflict detection method has been enhanced. Communication protocol to the traffic control center was included in the standard. With this standard, independent maintenance system and prompt treatment of hardware malfunctions becomes possible. Also, the unified intersection traffic control method will increase traffic safety.

Silica Aerogel Blanket Processing Technologies for Use as a Widespread Thermal Insulation Material (범용 단열재로 활용하기 위한 실리카 에어로젤 블랭킷의 처리 기술)

  • Aerogel is the most excellent insulation material known to date, but it is inflexible and has very low strength. A blanket containing aerogel in a nonwoven fabric or fiber is currently the most practical form. However, aerogel blankets are not yet widely used because they cannot avoid dust generation when handled, lack flexibility, and can possibly deform. In this study, vacuum treatment, surface treatment, and composite materialization technology were applied to solve this problem, and some prototypes were also made. If an aerogel blanket is wrapped in an aluminum sheet, sealed at the four ends, and vacuumed, it can become a material with better insulation than the blanket itself. An aerogel molded body can be made by coating the aerogel blanket with resin and treating the surface. If the aerogel blanket is multi-packed and laminated with resin or fiber in multiple layers to make it a composite material, it can be used as a flexible insulation material. In particular, this composite material, which utilizes a Teflon membrane with controlled pores, is breathable and waterproof, so it can be used for clothing. Prototypes of insoles for winter boots and outdoor roll mats were also produced using aerogel blanket resin and fiber composites. These prototypes showed low thermal conductivity of less than 20 mW m-1K-1, with good flexibility and durability.

  • This paper presents design and implementation of an intelligent video surveillance system. The proposed system has advantages of management efficiency and operation robustness unrelated to working condition compared to conventional CCTV based system. The system hardware is designed and implemented by using commercial chips such as digital media processor and video encoder, video decoder and the functions of software are to analyze temperature distribution of a infrared image and to detect disaster situation such as fire. The required functions are confirmed by testing of the prototype and we verified practicality of the system.

  • Based on the service design processes, we examined the market conditions and the criteria to be considered in selecting materials and selected CFRP CNT materials in the development of bicycle design. This material was used to develop frame design among the bicycle parts. The bicycle frame, designed with CFRP CNT material through vibration attenuation testing, tensile strength testing, and stiffness test results before prototype production, shows better results than the bicycle frame manufactured with conventional CNT materials in terms of function.

  • In this study, we found that it is necessary to use the relatively new resource from seaweed extracts to extract and process pulp and create a local brand that can contribute to the local fishermen, development of new bio material, establishment of natural infrastructure, and acquisition of foreign investment. This study's seaweed pulp separation process is very overwhelming as seaweed is a compound of glycoside and polysaccharide. Nevertheless, we intend to develop a purification process and introduce applied technology to explore a new applied technology of pulp process. Once this technology is fully developed and mass produced, it would contribute to greater exports and increasing income level for the local fishermen. The ultimate goal of this study is to gather technical data from the first and second years of application, apply seaweed pulp to increase bio effect, and develop new functional bio-plastic packaging material, raw material, and samples with special characteristics of high molecules.

  • In this study, the effect of the automotive haptic-seat technology which can transmit the driving information by the vibro-stimulus from the seat was investigated to overcome previous system's limitation relied on the visual and audial method and to help handicap driving. A prototype haptic seat cover with 30 coin-type motors and driver module were developed for this sake. In an experiment of seat vibration stimulation being performed under virtual driving situation by targeting the elderly aged over 65 years old, average score of test subjects for total vibration recognition was 3.5/4 points and recognition rate of 87.5% was represented. In addition, a result that all the test subjects totally recognized overspeed warning signal of 4 times was represented. As a result of statistical analysis for vibration recognition score by each group depending on TMT score, a significant difference was not found and a result that tactile function of which vibration is recognized even by the aged whose visual, perceptional function is declined showed an equal ability was obtained.. In this study it was shown that the seat vibration stimulus could be used to transfer the old drivers' information while driving.

Quality Characteristics of the Hamburger Patties with Bamboo (Sasa borealis) Leaf Extract with/without Cooked Rice (조릿대 잎 추출물과 밥을 이용한 햄버거 패티의 품질 특성)

  • This study was conducted to develop patties by substituting a portion of meat by bamboo (Sasa borealis) leaf extract (SBE) and/or cooked rice. Four types of patty were prepared: Control, S, SI, and SII. S was the patty for which 2.5% of meat was substituted with SBE. SI and SII were the patties with 25% or 50%, of meat, respectively, substituted with cooked rice containing SBE. The moisture contents of S, SI, and SII patties were not changed. The compositions of fat, cholesterol, and protein of S, SI, and SII patties were decreased. Cooking loss of weight as well as the diameters of S, SI, and SII patties were decreased. pH was increased in S patty, hardness was reduced in SI and SII patties, and malondialdehyde values were lowered in S, SI, and SII patties, compared to control. The S, SI, and SII patties were evaluated higher for color in sensory tests and preference tests. Through preference tests of burgers with these patties, the overall taste of the SI patty was assessed highly among the 4 patties. Therefore, it may be concluded that developing a patty by substituting a portion of meat with SBE and/or cooked rice may be worthwhile.

Development of Meat Seasoning Sauce Using Propolis (Propolis를 이용한 육류양념소스 개발)

  • We investigated the development of a new seasoning sauce using port, medicinal herbs and bee's propolis on the basis scientific experiment. We divided the sample manufacturing conditions of medicinal herbs into the following four formulae A (control), B (boiling water extraction, with added propolis), C (boiling water extraction, without propolis) and D (pressure extraction, without propolis). There was little difference in pH, titrable acidity, sodium chloride and sugar composition among the four formulae. The color value, was not changeable, despite being maintained in temperature storage (at $4^{\circ}C\;{\pm}2$) for 60 days. The order was formulae B, C, A and D. In particular, formulae B with added medicinal herbs and propolis showed greater change in oxidation than the other formulae, but lesser change in pH. A comparison of commercial and sample products, indicated only a small change in physicochemical characteristics. However, the sample products showed much superior sensory characteristics, than commercial products.

Development of Fermented Functional Onion Juice Using Lactic Acid Bacteria (유산균을 이용한 기능성 발효 양파음료의 개발)

  • Fermented functional onion juice was developed using lactic acid bacteria as a fermentation starter of onion. From the preliminary studies, we selected the bacterium KC-007 (named as Pediococcus pentosaceus based on morphological and physiological characteristics, carbon utilization pattern, and molecular genetic characteristics) as a fermentation starter. The optimum recipe of functional fermented onion juice based on manufacturing process and sensory evaluation were determined as 27% of fermentation liquer, 27% of apple juice, 3.7% of HFCS, 1.86% of $\beta$-cyclodextrin, 0.9% of oligosaccharide, 0.2% of apple flavor, 0.09% of citric acid, and 39.25% of water.

  • This paper proposes functional test methods of first-aid gadgets which are special end-effectors, for relief robot. In recent years, researches have been actively conducted on robots that can perform rescue operations on behalf of rescue workers in dangerous areas such as disasters and wars. These special robots mainly perform the task of finding or transporting injured people. However, it is sometimes they necessary to provide first aid in the field. Among the various first-aid operations, gadgets are being developed for oxygen supply, injection, and hemostasis operations that can be used in a defense/civilian area by using robot technology. Previous studies have proposed first-aid gadgets that are suitable for onsite situations and enable robots to perform the given task quickly and accurately. In this paper, we design a test procedure suitable for the functions of first-aid gadgets, summarize the results, and introduce future research directions.
