Kalman Filter for Estimation of Sensor Acceleration Using Six-axis Inertial Sensor (6축 관성센서를 이용한 센서가속도 추정용 칼만필터)

  • Although an accelerometer is a sensor that measures acceleration, it cannot be used by itself to measure the acceleration when the orientation of the sensor changes. This paper introduces a Kalman filter for the estimation of a sensor acceleration based on a six-axis inertial sensor (i.e., a three-axis accelerometer and three-axis gyroscope). The novelty of the proposed Kalman filter lies in the fact that its state vector includes not only the tilt angle variable but also the sensor acceleration. Thus, the filter can explicitly estimate the latter with a high accuracy. The accuracy of acceleration estimates were validated experimentally under three different dynamic conditions, using an optical motion capture system. It could be concluded that the performance of the proposed Kalman filter was comparable to that of the state-of-the-art estimation algorithm employed by the Xsens MTw. The proposed algorithm may be more suitable than inertial/magnetic sensor-based algorithms for various applications adopting six-axis inertial sensors.

  • To understand the complex phenomena performed in steam explosion, the fast and global measurement of the steam distribution is imperative for this extremely rapid transient stimulation of the bubble breakup and coalescence due to turbulent eddies and shock waves. TROI, the experimental facility requests more robust sensor system to meet this requirement. In Europe, researchers are prefer a X-ray method but this method is very expensive and has limited measurement range. There is an alternative technology such as ECT. Because of TROI's geometry, however, we need axial tomography method. This paper reviews image reconstruction algorethms for axial tomography, including Tikhonov regularization and iterative Tikhonov regularization. Axial tomography method is examined by simulation and experiment for typical permittivity distributions. Future works in axial tomography technology is discussed.

  • The magnitude of the axial force acting on turbopump bearings has a great influence on the operational reliability and service life of a turbopump. In the turbopump under current investigation the cavity vanes are introduced to the pump shroud casing to control the axial thrust of the turbopump. To investigate the effect of the cavity vanes, 3D computational flow analyses for a propellant pump stage including an inducer, impeller, volute and secondary flow passages are performed with and without the vanes. The results show that the cavity vanes are very effective in reducing the magnitude of axial thrust without notable changes on the overall performance of the turbopump.

터빈계통의 축정렬 (I) : 원리와 방법

  • 축정렬이 불량한 경우 축진동이 과도하게 발생하여 출력이 감소하고 소음이 발생하며, 심한 경우 회전체의 파손과 같은 손실을 입을 수 있다. 특히 축 정렬불량으로 인한 진동은 교정이 안되는 것이 특징이므로 근본적으로 진동 을 해결하기 위해서는 축 정렬을 다시 시행해야 한다. 그러나 터빈은 다른 기계 구조물과 달리 분해 점검에 많은 시간과 경비가 요구되므로 축 정렬시 정확한 작업이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 터빈계통의 축정렬을 수행하는 절차 와 방법에 대해서 검토하였다. 이를 위해 축정렬이 입력데이터로 쓰일 수 있 는 상태측정방법중 커플링 원주와 커플링 면 측정방법이 설명되었으며, 측정 값으로부터 축정렬을 수행하기 위해, 베어링의 이동량 계산과정과 쉼 가감량 의 계산방법을 기술하였다. 축정렬의 원리와 방법의 적용과정을 실제로 알아 보기 위해 평택화력 1,2호기에 대한 축정렬이 수행되었다. 1,2호기는 고압터 빈, 2단계의 저압터빈 및 발전기로 구성되어 있는 다축 시스템으로서, 제작 사측에서 요구하는 정렬 기준값을 감안하여 축정렬에 필요한 베어링 조정량 을 계산하였다. 계산과정은 기준로터로 지정된 저압터빈에서부터 축정렬상태 도를 작성하여 가면서 단계적으로 설명되었으며, 최종적으로 쉼의 가감량까 지를 보여줌으로서 축정렬과정을 완료하였다.

  • The engine core of a 65hp-turboshaft engine for UAV is developed and modified into a 55lbf-turbojet engine. Since the core engine is installed with a propelling nozzle, which has the same mass flow characteristics as the power generator of the turboshaft engine its mechanical and aerodynamic characteristics are basically the same as those of the complete engine. Engine output is not shaft power but thrust force that is easier to measure. The core engine is very useful for core test purpose. Besides, the core engine itself can be directly used for propulsion of small air vehicles.

  • From the perspective of commercializing rotating machines equipped with magnetic bearings, maintaining the error between the mechanical center and the magnetic center within an acceptable level is crucial. The existing method of measuring the center error is to adjust the position references that minimize the current imbalance present in levitation control outputs. However, this method can be applied only after all the components of the system are operational. In this paper, we present a new method of estimating the center error by using only the position sensors and a current source. A force model that relates the position of the rotor with the coil currents is set up. Using this model, the center error is estimated by minimizing the difference between the force angles and the contact angles measured in a pull test. The feasibility of the method is numerically and experimentally validated.

  • The use of composites is increasing for lightweight aerospace structures. Among these structures, the ring frame and the parts of the projectile body are mainly made of a fiber reinforced composite material which is less susceptible such as delamination to structural damage. As the use of fiber reinforced composites increases, interest in modeling efficient methods of stiffness and strength is increasing. This paper predict the mechanical strength according to the repeating unit cell(RUC) of the 2-D triaxial braided composites of fiber reinforced composites. Yarn slice definition, incremental approach and stiffness reduction model were used as strength prediction. Finally, the results of strength prediction are verified by comparing with experimental data of 2-D triaxial braided composites specimens.

Applications of Nanomanipulator in Nanowires (나노메니퓰레이터를 이용한 나노선의 특성평가)

  • The combination of focused ion beam (FIB) and 4 point probe nanomanipulator could make various nano manufacturing and electrical measurements possible. In this study, we manufactured individual ZnO nanowire devices and measured those electrical properties. In addition, tensile experiments of metallic Au and Pd nanowires was performed by the same directional alignment of two nanomanipulators and a nanowire. It was confirmed from I-V curves that Ohmic contact is formed between electrodes and nanomanipulators, which is able to directly measure the electrical properties of a nanowire itself. In the mechanical tensile test, Au and Pd nanowires showed a totally different fracture behavior except the realignment from <110> to <002>. The deformation until the fracture was governed by twin for Au and by slip for Pd nanowires, respectively. The crystallographic relationship and fracture mechanism was discussed by TEM observations.

Modification of Balancing Piston for Trimming of Impeller Diameter for Maintaining Axial-Thrust Balance in Low-Specific-Speed Multistage Centrifugal Pumps (저비속도 원심 회전차 외경가공에 따른 축추력 불균형을 감쇄시키기 위한 평형 피스톤 수정방안에 관한 고찰)

  • In the present study, the imbalance in the axial-thrust and variation in the volumetric efficiency that occurred during the trimming of impeller diameter were investigated. The present study was focused on low-specific-speed multistage centrifugal pumps with a balancing piston as the balancing mechanism. The effects of impeller trimming on the axial-thrust balance in multistage pumps with horizontal and vertical axes were compared. The results showed that impeller trimming resulted in an additional axial-thrust acting in direction of pump inlet. The axial-thrust imbalance due to impeller trimming was more severe in the vertical-axis pumps than in the horizontal-axis pumps. The rate of increase in the diameter of the balancing piston, which was proportional to the rate of impeller trimming, was evaluated to maintain the axial-thrust balance. Furthermore, a simultaneous increase in the piston length and piston diameter was more effective for reducing the axial-thrust imbalance along with the volumetric efficiency drop.
