Objectives: Synchronous electroencephalogram (EEG) and functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) has been used to explore sleep stage dependent functional brain networks. Despite a growing number of sleep studies using EEG-fMRI, few studies have conducted network analysis on whole night sleep due to difficulty in data acquisition, artifacts, and sleep management within the MRI scanner. Methods: In order to perform network analysis for whole night sleep, we proposed experimental procedures and data processing techniques for EEG-fMRI. We acquired 6-7 hours of EEG-fMRI data per participant and conducted signal processing to reduce artifacts in both EEG and fMRI. We then generated a functional brain atlas with 68 brain regions using independent component analysis of sleep fMRI data. Using this functional atlas, we constructed sleep level dependent functional brain networks. Results: When we evaluated functional connectivity distribution, sleep showed significantly reduced functional connectivity for the whole brain compared to that during wakefulness. REM sleep showed statistically different connectivity patterns compared to non-REM sleep in sleep-related subcortical brain circuits. Conclusion: This study suggests the feasibility of exploring functional brain networks using sleep EEG-fMRI for whole night sleep via appropriate experimental procedures and signal processing techniques for fMRI and EEG.

R-404A, which is used widely in small-scale ice makers, is scheduled to be phased out because of its high global warming potential. In this study, drop-in tests were conducted using R-448A and R-449A, which replace R-404A, to modify the outdoor air and supply water temperatures. The results showed that the daily ice production rate of R-404A was 5.3% higher than that of R-448A and 4.2% higher than that of R-449A. This was attributed to the larger vapor density of R-404A, which resulted in a larger mass flow rate in the system. Between R-448A and R-449A, R-448A yielded a larger amount of ice at low air and water temperatures, whereas R-449A yielded a larger amount of ice at high air and water temperatures. The daily power consumption of R-404A was approximately 10% larger than those of R-448A and R-449A. The resulting COPs of R-448A and R-449A was similar, only 3.0% larger than that of R-404A. The literature survey showed that the condensation or evaporation data of R-448A or R-449A are very limited, and research on this issue is recommended.
Retrieving temporal information of encoded events is one of the core control processes in episodic memory. Despite much prior neuroimaging research on episodic retrieval, little is known about how large-scale connectivity patterns are involved in the retrieval of sequentially organized episodes. Task-related functional connectivity multivariate pattern analysis was used to distinguish the different sequential retrieval. In this study, participants performed temporal episodic memory tasks in which they were required to retrieve the encoded items in either the forward or backward direction. While separately parsed local networks did not yield substantial efficiency in classification performance, the large-scale patterns of interactivity across the cortical and sub-cortical brain regions implicated in both the cognitive control of memory and goal-directed cognitive processes encompassing lateral and medial prefrontal regions, inferior parietal lobules, middle temporal gyrus, and caudate yielded high discriminative power in classification of temporal retrieval processes. These findings demonstrate that mnemonic control processes across cortical and subcortical regions are recruited to re-experience temporally-linked series of memoranda in episodic memory and are mirrored in the qualitatively distinct global network patterns of functional connectivity.
A microscope is the fundamental research and diagnostic apparatus for clinical investigation of signaling transduction, morphological changes and physiological tracking of cells and intact tissues from patients in the biomedical laboratory science. Proper use, care and maintenance of microscope with comprehensive understanding in mechanism are fully requested for reliable image data and accurate interpretation for diagnosis in the clinical laboratory. The standard operating procedure (SOP) for light microscopes includes performance procedure, brief information of all mechanical parts of microscopes with systematic troubleshooting mechanism depending on the laboratory capacity. Maintenance program encompasses cleaning objective, ocular lenses and inner optics; replacement and calibration of light source; XY sample stage management; point spread function (PSF) measurement for confocal laser scanning microscope (CLSM); quality control (QC) program in fluorescent microscopy; and systematic troubleshooting. Laser safety is one of the concern for medical technologists engaged in CLSM laboratory. Laser safety guideline based on the laser classification and risk level, and advisory lab wear for CLSM users are also expatiated in this overview. Since acquired image data presents a wide range of information at the moment of acquisition, well-maintained microscopes with proper microscopic maintenance program are impulsive for its interpretation and diagnosis in the clinical laboratory.

Low-temperature combustion (LTC) strategies, such as HCCI (Homogeneous Charge Compression Ignition), PCCI (Premixed Charge Compression Ignition), and RCCI (Reactivity Controlled Compression Ignition), have been developed to effectively reduce NOx and PM while increasing the thermal efficiency of diesel engines. Through numerical analysis, this study examined the effects of the injection timing and two-stage injection ratio of diesel fuel, a highly reactive fuel, on the performance and exhaust gas of RCCI engines using gasoline as the low reactive fuel and diesel as the highly reactive fuel. In the case of two-stage injection, combustion slows down if the first injection timing is too advanced. The combustion temperature decreases, resulting in lower combustion performance and an increase in HC and CO. The injection timing of approximately -60°ATDC is considered the optimal injection timing considering the combustion performance, exhaust gas, and maximum pressure rise rate. When the second injection timing was changed during the two-stage injection, considering the combustion performance, exhaust gas, and the maximum pressure increase rate, it was judged to be optimal around -30°ATDC. In the case of two-stage injection, the optimal result was obtained when the first injection amount was set to approximately 60%. Finally, a two-stage injection rather than a single injection was considered more effective on the combustion performance and exhaust gas.
A C-46 transport aircraft, which can be thought of as a large cultural heritage item from the modern period, was subjected to paint analysis and conservation treatment in preparation for its exhibition. The C-46 is the first aircraft ever dispatched to overseas combat zones by the Korean Air Force and carried out missions during the Vietnam War. The aircraft is mainly made of aluminum and shows signs of corrosion on its surface, including pitting and etching, as well as gray and white powdery attachments. In the analysis of the paint, diatomite(SiO2·nH2O) was confirmed in the red paint, titanium dioxide(TiO2) was identified in the white paint, black iron oxide(Fe3O4) was detected in the black paint, and colcothar(Fe3O4) mixed with putty was confirmed in the blue paint. Infrared spectroscopy revealed the use of alkyd resin in the paint on the main body and nitrocellulose in the Taegeuk pattern. During the conservation treatment, mechanical cleaning, such as sanding, was conducted to remove paint and varnish from the surface. Corrosion was removed by sanding and cleaning with chemical solvents, and new paints and varnishes were applied. Through the paint analysis and conservation treatment, the aircraft was made available for exhibition in a stable condition.

This research performed single fiber pull-out test to evaluate the effect between fineness modulus of cement composites and the fiber bond performance (bond strength and pull-out energy). A synthetic fiber (polypropylene) and a steel fiber (hooked ends type) were inserted in the middle of dog bone shape specimens which were designed with fine aggregates of F. M. 1.96, 2.69, 3.43. The experiment results showed bond strength and pullout energy of synthetic fiber are improved as fineness modulus of cement composites increases. It is considered that the frictional resistance between synthetic fiber and cement composite increases as fineness modulus of cement composite increases and consume more energy while pull out the fiber from cement composite. However bond performance of steel fiber which resist pull out by mechanical behavior is less effected on fineness modulus of cement composite. It is considered that the mechanical fixedness of hooked ends exerts a greater effect on the pullout resistance than the frictional resistance between the cement composite and the steel fiber so F. M. of fine aggregate has a relatively small effect on the pullout resistance with the steel fiber.

Most of the recent AI researches has focused on developing AI models. However, recently, artificial intelligence research has gradually changed from model-centric to data-centric, and the importance of learning data is getting a lot of attention based on this trend. However, it takes a lot of time and effort because the preparation of learning data takes up a significant part of the entire process, and the generation of labeling data also differs depending on the purpose of development. Therefore, it is need to develop a tool with various labeling functions to solve the existing unmetneeds. In this paper, we describe a labeling system for creating precise and fast labeling data of medical images. To implement this, a semi-automatic method using Back Projection, Grabcut techniques and an automatic method predicted through a machine learning model were implemented. We not only showed the advantage of running time for the generation of labeling data of the proposed system, but also showed superiority through comparative evaluation of accuracy. In addition, by analyzing the image data set of about 1,000 patients, meaningful diagnostic indexes were presented for men and women in the diagnosis of sarcopenia.
This research work is to suggest the experimental results capable of solving an initial unsuitability of combustion and environment in a constant volume combustion chamber by using LFG(Land Fill Gas) which consists of 40% CO2 and 60% CH4. The experimental condition is set as 0.9~1.6 of air-fuel ratio, 3bar of combustion pressure, 25℃ of room temperature, methane for using gas, and 2.5~4.5 of Pre-chamber hole sizes. As a result, it can be seen that diffusion of initial flame is significantly increased by M3.0 model comparing with other one. The reason for the characteristics is that orifice effect is extremely improved by 0.9, 1.0, and 1.2 of air-fuel ratio comparing with other one. Consequently, this experiment is shown that M3.0 model is partially capable of improving combustion performance than a conventional ignition plug in case of applying to LFG with Pre-chamber design.
'Angelica' is one of the most traditionally consumed medicinal herbs around Northeast Asia including Korea for treatments of various diseases or health care purposes like hematopoiesis, blood circulation for women, sedative, analgesic, and a tonic medicine etc. Angelica gigas Nakai, a Korean native species of Angelica, is clearly different from the others in containing a high concentration of active ingredients like pyranocoumarines including decursin, decursinol, and decursinol angelate. These compounds have various kinds of positive effects such as anti-tumor activity including the precaution of neutropenia occurred during anticancer drug administration, improvements of metabolic disorders, menstrual irregularity, impairment of renal function, respiration improvement, cognition-enhancement, anti-inflammatory effect, anti-oxidative effect, enhancing fertility and so forth. Thus it implies incredible potentialities in future development for foods and drugs. However, certain purity-related qualities and/or overdose in food products can cause side effects like toxicities; therefore, their safety profiles should also be considered. This review focuses on the positive and negative effects of three pyranocoumarines in Angelica gigas Nakai and some possibilities and considerations for future food and drug products development.
