Application of Iron-Catalyzed Air Oxidation Process for Organics and Color Removals in Recalcitrance Flexographic Inks Wastewater (난분해성 후렉소잉크 폐수중 유기물 및 색도제거를 위한 철촉매 공기산화 공정의 적용)

  • The oxidation processes of metal catalysis were practically applied into the flexographic inks wastewater treatment to derive the most effective and economical system among all the processes of iron-salts coagulation, iron-catalyzed air oxidation, and coagulation followed by biological treatment. The iron concentration and pH were optimized as $2.8{\times}10^{-3}mol$ and 5.5~6.0, respectively, for all the oxidation processes. At the optimal reaction conditions, the removal efficiencies of $TCOD_{Mn}$ and Color were as follows for the respective process: i) 75% $TCOD_{Mn}$ and 77% Color removals for iron-salts coagulation, ii) 91% TCODMn and 90% Color removals for iron-catalyzed air oxidation, iii) 74~92% $TCOD_{Mn}$ and 81~90% Color removals for coagulation followed by biological treatment. Based on the economical and technological aspects, iron-catalyzed air oxidation was confirmed as the most effective process in the treatment of industrial wastewater.

  • Cryogel and aerogel Pt-Ru/C were synthesized by the sol-gel process for the electrooxidation of methanol. From XRD analysis, it was found that the catalysts had highly dispersed Pt-Ru alloys on carbon support although high temperature treatments have been conducted. Electrocatalytic activities of 3 type aerogel catalysts were investigated in half cell experiments by cyclic voltammetry. Among them, Phloroglucinol-Formaldehyde(PF) type catalyst shows the highest activity. From the results of deactivation test for each catalysts, the aerogel catalysts are found to have excellent durability compared with those prepared by colloidal method.

  • OSP(organic solderability preservatives) finish has been considered as a very effective process for substituting the metal surface treatment of Ni/Au finish because of lower cost, interface property and environmental issue of OSP finish. However, the discoloration of OSP layer is formed during assembly process consisting of various steps of temperature. The causes of discoloration and the characterization of solder joint were investigated with a degree of discoloration and the assembly process of OSP finished products, which was also compared statistically with that of conventional Ni/Au finished products. As the results, the solution of process trouble for OSP finished products is able to be offered.

  • 새로운 리튬 2차전지용 양극활물질인 Li[NiMnCo]O2를 간단히 합성할 수 있는 방법과 Si의 doping에 의해 그 특성을 향상하였다. 원하는 당량비의 Li, Ni, Co, Mn의 nitrate를 고순도의 에탄올에 용해하고 여기에 Si의 원료물질로서 poly(methyl phenyl siloxane)을 원하는 양(전체 전이금속 이온의 $2{\sim}10\;mol%$)만큼 첨가한 후 약 30분 정도 교반하였다. 이 용액을 약 $70{\sim}80^{\circ}C$ 정도의 온도에서 고점도의 진흙 상태가 될 정도로 가열하고 $450{\sim}500^{\circ}C$의 온도에서 약 5시간 정도 열처리 하여 유기물이 없는 상태의 전구체를 제조하였다. 이 전구체를 분말형태로 분쇄하고 $600{\sim}650^{\circ}C$ 정도의 온도에서 3시간, $900{\sim}950^{\circ}C$ 정도의 온도에서 5시간 연속적으로 열처리 하여 최종 활물질을 제조하였다. 이렇게 제조된 활물질은 175mAh/g 정도의 높은 비용량을 나타내었으며 4.5V 충전 조건에도 우수한 수명특성을 나타내었다. Si이 doping되지 않은 활물질에 비해 Si이 doping된 물질은 율특성, 수명특성에서 보다 우수한 특성을 나타내었는데 이것은 층상구조 활물질의 격자상수 증가와 impedance 증가 억제에 기인한 것으로 분석되었다.

  • 유기 발광 소자내의 전공과 전자의 균형과 효율적인 재결합을 통한 발광소자의 효율 향상을 위한 다양한 연구가 소자의 응용에 매우 큰 영향을 주고 있다. 그러나 대부분의 전도성 유기물내에서 정공의 이동도 가 전자의 이동도 보다 100 배 정도 빠르기 때문에 발광 효율을 향상시키기 위한 효율적인 전자 주입이 요구된다. 본 연구에서는 전자주입효율을 향상하기 위하여 강한 전자 받게 역할을 하는 플러렌($C_{60}$)의 장점을 이용한 이중 전자 주입층을 제작하고 녹색 유기 발광 소자에 사용하여 발광효율의 변화를 관찰하였다. 유기 발광 소자에서 전자의 이동도를 향상하여 발광 층내로 주입되는 전자의 주입량을 증가하여 엑시톤 형성 확률을 높이기 위하여 전자 주입 층 내에 $C_{60}$을 첨가하였다. $C_{60}$만으로 이루어진 단층 전자 주입 층으로 구성된 유기발광 소자는 Al과 $C_{60}$ 계면사이에 거칠기가 큰 계면으로 인해 발생된 누설전류로 인해 Cesium flouride (CsF) 단층 전자 주입 층에 비해 낮은 발광효율을 나타냈다. 플러렌의 높은 전자전도성을 유지하며 누설전류의 흐름을 방지하기 위하여 매우 얇은 CsF층을 알루미늄 금속과 플러렌사이에 형성함으로써 플러렌과 Al 사이의 공유결합을 없애 누설전류를 줄였으며 Cs의 무거운 원자량으로 인해 전자 수송층으로의 확산되는 량이 적어 발광층에서 엑시톤의 재결합효율이 개선되어 유기발광 소자의 발광효율 향상이 나타남을 관찰하였다.

A Study on the Inhibition Effect of Metal Corrosion Using Organic Compound Containing an Amine Group (아민기를 가진 유기물을 사용한 금속의 부식억제효과)

  • A study on the corrosion inhibition of metals is important in many industrial applications (carbon steel, copper, aluminum, SUS 304, nickel). In this study, we investigated the C-V diagrams related to the surface corrosion of metals. It was observed through the SEM that the surface corrosion state of the various metals had the corrosion potential by the scan rate and the organic inhibitor containing an amine group. We determined to measure cyclic voltammetry using the three-electrode system. The measurement of oxidation and reduction ranged from -1350mV to 1650mV. The scan rate was 50, 100, 150, and 200mV/s. It turned out that the C-V characterization of SUS 304 was irreversible process caused by the oxidation current from the cyclic voltammogram. After adding organic inhibitors, the adsorption film was constituted, and the passive phenomena happened. As a result, it was revealed that the inhibition effect of metal corrosion depends on the molecular interaction, and the interaction has influence on the adsorption complex.

Geochemical Characteristics and Heavy Metal Pollutions in the Surface Sediments of Oyster Farms in Goseong Bay, Korea (고성만 굴 양식장 표층퇴적물의 지화학적특성과 중금속 오염에 관한 연구)

  • Goseong bay, located in southeast sea of Korea with an area of 2,100 ha, is a semi-enclosed bay well-known for oyster farming cultured in an extended range of 148 ha. The objective of this study is to provide the fundamental data in order to manage the effective sea area. A total 26 of surface sediment were collected from Goseong bay to evaluate their sedimentary environment and heavy metals. The loss on Ignition (LOI), C/N ratio, acid volatile sulfide (AVS) and heavy metals were analyzed. loss on ignition (LOI) of surface sediment range from 1.00% to 3.03% (average 2.00%). The carbonate content ranges from 0.52% to 4.29% (average 2.37%). C/N ratio of organic matter showed that most part of organic matter comes from neighboring continent. Acid volatile sulfide (AVS) value of surface sediment from 0.02 mg/g to 1.43 mg/g (average 0.24 mg/g). A ten element of surface sediments (Al, As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Hg, Ni, Pb, V, Zn) were calculated by enrichment factor (Ef) and the results show that some areas are highly polluted with respect Cu and Hg. The correlation matrix displays the existence of remarkable levels of correlation with both positive and negative values among different variable pairs. LOI and AVS showed both positive values. LOI and AVS values falls under 2% and 1%. Therefore, Goseong bay showed good in quality of sediment.

Spatial and Temporal Changes in Sediments of Major Tidal Flats in the Western and Southern Korean Coasts: Grain Size, Organic Matter, Trace Metals (한반도 서·남해 주요 갯벌 퇴적물의 시·공간적 변화: 입도, 유기물, 중금속)

  • As a part of the national marine ecosystem monitoring program, the temporal and spatial variation of sedimentary environment and pollution of organic matters and trace metals from four major tidal flats, i.e., Ganghwa Is., Garolim bay, Jeung Is., Suncheon bay, was investigated for 3 yerars from 2015 to 2017. The mean grain size of the sediment was $5.0-5.3{\varnothing}$ at Ganghwa Is, $4.5-4.8{\varnothing}$ at Garolim bay, $6.1-6.5{\varnothing}$ at Jeung Is, and $8.6-8.7{\varnothing}$ at Suncheon bay. The mean grain size (Mz) tended to decrease from the north (Ganghwa Is.) to the south (Suncheon bay). The ignition loss (IL) was 15.5% in Suncheon bay in 2015, which was relatively high compared to other sites, but gradually decreased over time from 8.3% in 2016 to 7.0% in 2017. In Jeung Is. and Suncheon bay, the concentration of Zn and As exceeded the threshold effect level (TEL) at some stations, but the range of trace metals in the other sites was below the level. In Jeung Is., the Mz and concentration of trace metals except Hg was positively correlated (r= 0.40-0.88, P<0.05). On the other hand, Mz was negatively correlated with trace metals (P<0.05) in Suncheon bay. The geoaccumulation index ($I_{geo}$) to evaluate contamination status of sediments for trace metal was less than 1(not contaminated) for Cu, Zn, Pb, Cd and Hg, and 2-3 (moderately to strongly polluted) for As at several stations in Suncheon bay and Jeung Is.

Macrobenthic Community Structure Along the Environmental Gradients of Ulsan Bay, Korea (울산만의 저서환경 구배에 따른 저서동물군집 구조)

  • This study was carried out to investigate the extent to which benthic environment of Ulsan Bay was disturbed by organic materials and trace metals from the megacity and industrial complex. Field survey for benthic environment and macroinvertebrate community was seasonally conducted from February to November 2006 at nine stations covering the inside and outside of the bay. TOC was on average 1.7% while four (As, Cu, Pb, Zn) out of seven trace metals measured exceeded the Effects Range Low (ERL) in most of the stations. Total number of species sampled was 199 and mean density was 4,578 ind./$m^2$, both of which were greatly dominated by the polychaetes. Dominant species were Aphelochaeta monilaris (22.6%), Ruditapes philippinarum (17.1%), Magelona japonica (12.2%), Lumbrineris longifolia (9.9%) and their distribution was ruled by the difference in the benthic environmental condition of each station. From the multivariate analyses, four stational groups were identified: northern part of the bay, middle and lower part of the bay, the intersection of Taewha River and Gosa stream and outside of the bay. As a result, the community heterogeneity of inner bay was much more greater than that of outer bay. SIMPER analysis showed that four groups were represented by R. philippinarum-Capitella capitata, A. monilaris-Balanoglossus carnosus, Sinocorophium sinensis-Cyathura higoensis and M. japonica-Ampharete arctica, respectively. Spatio-temporal changes of macroinvertebrate communities in Ulsan Bay were closely related to those of depth, mean grain size and organic content, and Zn was also a meaningful factor in that context.

The Effects of Environmental Conditions on the Reduction Rate of TNT by $Fe^0$ (환경요인이 $Fe^0$에 의한 TNT의 환원 반응속도에 미치는 영향)

  • The effects of environmental conditions, initial dissolved oxygen concentrations, pH, and the presence of electron carrier vitamin $B_{12}$, on the reduction rate of Tn by $Fe^0$ was quantitatively analyzed using a batch reactor In all experiments, TNT reduction was best described with a first order reaction and the reduction rate decreased with the increase in the initial DO concentration. However, the specific reaction rate did not decrease linearly with the increase in the initial DO concentration. In the presence of HEPES buffer 0.2 and 2.0 mM(pH 5.7$\pm$0.2), the specific reaction rate increased more than 5.8 times, which showed reduction rate is rather significantly influenced by the pH of the solution. To test the possibility of reaction rate enhancement, well-known electron carrier(or mediator) , vitamin $B_{12}$, has augmented besides $Fe^0$. In the presence of 8.0 $mu\textrm{g}$/L of vitamin $B_{12}$, the specific reaction rate increased as much as 14.6 times. The results indicate that the addition of trace amount of vitamin $B_{12}$ can be a promising rate controlling option for the removal of organics using a $Fe^0$ filled permeable reactive barrier.
