  • The objective of this study is to examine the effect of regional globalization and its impact to globalized company. As emerging markets evolve from the periphery to the core of marketing practice, we will need to figure out their unique characteristics. Emerging markets are distinctly different from mature markets. Because of market heterogeneity it is important to segment customer and find out their characteristics for the companies. In this research we explores how inward internationalization, susceptibility to global consumer culture affect consumer's brand attitude and adoption of global brand. This study examines various strategic issues in the context of China. The result suggest that inward internationalization is an antecedent factor of susceptibility to global consumer culture and also influence to brand attitude and brand adoption positively. Several implications for Korean content providing companies and marketing strategies are discussed.

  • This study tests the validity of the Susceptibility of Global Consumer Culture (SGCC) Scale that is composed of three dimensions, conformity to consumption trend, quality perception, and social prestige, on Korean consumers. The study also identifies the relationships with consumer susceptibility to interpersonal influence and attitude toward purchasing global fashion brands. Utilizing the convenience sampling method, college students aged over 20 living in the Seoul metropolitan area were selected. Three hundred questionnaires were used in the statistical analysis, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis, paired t test, and path analysis using structural equation modeling. Confirmatory factor analysis revealed that the SGCC scale measured by three dimensions fit well for young Korean consumers. Path analysis showed that identical conformity positively influences all three dimensions of the SGCC scale and that informational conformity positively influences purchasing intention toward global fashion brands. Among the three dimensions of SGCC, quality perception and social prestige positively influence purchasing intention toward global fashion brands.

  • This study is aimed at examining the degree in message recognitions with respect to the same global brand Ad. campaign intended for local consumers in Korea, China, and United-States, and applying the results to the forseeable message production of global Ad. campaigns. For this purpose, we conducted a survey by providing those consumers with Anycall Ads. of Samsung mobile phones, which were inserted in local printed advertisements. We concluded that the cultural and environmental differences of markets represent different degrees in message recognitions among these three countries. This result suggests that the localization based on local cultures and market situations is more important than the general standardization in the future global brand Ad. campaigns.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the determinants of the susceptibility of global consumer culture. As determinants, materialism and self monitoring as psychological variables and fashion clothing product knowledge as clothing-related variable were included. It was hypothesized that both psychological variables and clothing-related variable influence susceptibility of global consumer culture. Data were gathered by surveying university students in Seoul metropolitan area, using convenience sampling, and 311 questionnaires were used in the statistical analysis. In analyzing data, exploratory factor analysis using SPSS and confirmatory factor analysis and path analysis using AMOS were conducted. Factor analysis of susceptibility of global consumer culture revealed four dimensions, 'social prestige' factor, 'quality perception' factor, 'conformity to others' factor, and 'conformity to consumption trend' factor. In addition, factor analysis of self monitoring revealed three dimensions, 'center-oriented attention' factor, 'situation-appropriate self-presentation' factor, and 'strategic displays of self-presentation' factor. The results showed that all the fit indices for the variable measures were quite acceptable. In addition, the overall fit of the model suggests that the model fits the data well. Tests of the hypothesized path show that all variables except for the one factor of self monitoring, 'center-oriented attention', and materialism influence all the factors of susceptibility of global consumer culture. The implications of these findings and suggestions for future study are also discussed.
